3 Water Source Heat Pumps Decentralized pproach This equipment is applied at the point of use. The comfort settings can be adjusted for each unit as desired. s a result, it provides unparalleled level of individual comfort. It also allows each unit to work at its peak efficiency. This results in highly economic operation. Water Source Heat Pumps These units are designed for year round heating and cooling of both new and renovated commercial, industrial and multifamily buildings. Our Water Source Heat Pumps offer low initial costs, individual comfort and highly economic year round operation. System Requirements typical system includes some type of heat rejection equipment (a cooling tower or a chiller) and a boiler or other heat source to maintain a required range of inlet water temperature for these units. non insulated two pipe continuous loop system carries moderate temperature water to and from each unit. ll units function independently either adding or removing heat from the water loop. This provides separate zone control and ensures maximum efficiency. These units are designed to provide rated cooling output at entering water temperature of 86 F and the rated heating output at entering water temperature of 68 F. It follows that depending on season, the inlet water temperature should be maintained as close as possible to this range. Since, at the same time, some units may be cooling the space while other units may be heating, the system may not be providing the optimum inlet water temperature for each unit. This will affect the capacity of the units. table on page 6 shows the capacity correction factors for different entering water temperatures. The units shall be warranted by the manufacturer against defects in material and workmanship for a period of one year on all parts and labor with an additional four-year warranty coverage on the compressor only. The water source units shall be designed to operate at entering water temperature of 86 F for cooling and 68 F for heating applications. These units should be capable of operating satisfactorily with the entering water temperature in the range of 60 F to 100 F. These units shall also be capable of operating satisfactorily at flow rates within -40% to +40% of the specified flow rate for each unit. The capacity correction factors for different entering water temperatures and flow rates within the operating range shall be provided by the manufacturer. Cabinet The cabinet (provided in console models) shall be fabricated from heavy gauge galvanized steel and finished in baked enamel paint. The return air shall enter the cabinet at the bottom and the conditioned air shall exit at the top. The removal of the cabinet shall give access to chassis piping and electrical connections. 5 Specifications Chassis The compressor shall be high efficiency type designed for heat pump duty and mounted on vibration isolators. Compressor motors shall be single phase with internal overload protection. Both compressor and evaporator fan compartments shall be insulated. The water-to-refrigerant heat exchanger shall be constructed of non-corrosive materials and shall be capable of withstanding 400 psig water and 650 psig refrigerant working pressures. The refrigerant to air heat exchanger shall be constructed of aluminum fin plates and copper tubes. The coil shall be designed to withstand 650 psig refrigerant working pressure. Fan Motor and ssembly The evaporator fan shall be direct drive centrifugal type with dynamically balanced blower wheels. The housing and wheels shall be designed for quiet operation. The fan housing shall be constructed of galvanized steel and shall be removable from the chassis for servicing. The fan motor shall be of four-speed type. Only two out of four available speeds shall be utilized depending on the capacity of the unit. The fan motor shall be isolated from the housing by rubber grommets. The motor shall be permanently lubricated and have thermal overload protection. Electrical ll electrical motors, solenoid valves and control components must be ETL approved. Polarized connectors must be used where sub-assemblies have to be disconnected for service. ll removable sub-assemblies must be properly grounded using green grounding wire of sufficient current rating. Control Options The unit shall be available with controls mounted on chassis for manual change over as well as automatic change over. The chassis shall also be available for controls from a 24 volt wall-mounted thermostat for manual or automatic changeover. In addition, unit shall be available with standard electronic controls. Piping The unit shall be supplied with factory-installed supply and return water connections with locations depending on unit type. Certain models are field-reversible, such as WM and LM. The LR model has dual fittings (left and right), with the unused fittings plugged as needed. It shall be the responsibility of the field installer to provide suitable unions for chassis disconnect. lso, the field installer must provide necessary shut-off and balancing valves to ensure sufficient supply of water to the unit. polyvinyl tube stubbed out from the chassis is provided for the removal of condensate drain water. It shall be the responsibility of the field installer to provide a drain line with suitable slope to collect and dispose of the condensate water. suitable trap must be provided on this drain line to meet the requirements of local code. 6 Specifications Capacity Correction Factors Cooling and Heating Capacity for Water Source Heat Pumps as shown below are based on tests conducted according to unless otherwise specified. These test conditions are as follows Cooling - Entering ir F Dry Bulb / 66.2 F Wet Bulb - Entering Water F Heating - Entering ir F Dry Bulb - Entering Water F The water flow rate necessary to obtain the required capacity is specified in the table below. If the units are operating at conditions different than the rated conditions, the heating and cooling capacities can be approximated using the correction factors listed in the following tables. Capacity Correction Factors for Entering Water Temperature (EWT) Entering Water Temperature in F. EWT Cooling Heating Capacity Correction Factors for Relative Flow Rate (Flow %) In the last row of Capacity table the water flow rate is specified in GPM. If the actual flow rate is different, then express it as a % of the specified flow rate. This gives the relative flow rate %. The following table shows the relationship between the Flow % and the correction factor for the Capacity. Flow % Cooling Heating Example Model EZ volt unit, Specified Flow Rate 3.0 GPM, Cooling Capacity 12,200 BTUH Find the corrected cooling capacity for Entering Water Temp of 90 F and actual flow rate of 2.7 GPM. This gives a relative flow rate of (2.7/3.0) X 100 = 90.0%. ISLNDIRE the Company of St. James, New York warrants that the unit is free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service for the twelve-month period following the date of installation. WRRNTY Coverage includes repair or replacement, at the Company s option, of any defective parts that fail under normal use for the first 365 days after the date of equipment Installation* under the terms, conditions and limitations of the warranty. ll defective parts shall be returned within thirty days after removal to the Company at such locations as the Company may designate. lslandaire reserves the right to impose an inspection charge and/or a restocking fee in cases where parts or equipment have been improperly returned as defective and/or as being in warranty. WRRNTY coverage also includes Labor Charges on all covered repairs performed by an lslandaire uthorized Service Company in accordance with the terms, conditions and limitations of the warranty. Extra charges such as emergency calls. nuisance calls, mileage, overtime or shipping are not covered. Check, test and start by an experienced person are the responsibility of the installing contractor. Check, test and start shall include physically operating each unit in both cooling and heating modes and correcting any minor deficiencies noted. On occasion, wires may become disconnected or components may be dislodged from their bases as a result of rough handling during transport, causing improper functioning of the unit. Correction of these minor conditions is part of Check, Test, and Start. IN NO EVENT SHLL THE COMPNY S MXIMUM LIBILITY EXCEED THE SELLING PRICE OF THE UNIT CLIMED TO BE DEFECTIVE. s a condition precedent to the Company s obligation under this WRRNTY, it shall be the obligation of the Owner during the designated WRRNTY period to furnish the following information to the Company within three days after unit failure: 1) Model Number and Serial Number of unit involved, 2) full and complete description of the problem encountered with the unit. Upon receipt of the above information, the Company will reply to the Owner within a period not to exceed fifteen working days, with a description of the action the Company desires to take.
