1 Use & Care Manual Electric Portrait with remote control DBL-2000-DD5 These instructions are for your safety. Please read through them thoroughly before use and retain for future reference. Failure to follow them could cause a heater malfunction resulting in serious injury and/or property damage. 2 HANDLING AND UNPACKING Before continuing any further with the installation of this heater please read the following: One person should be sufficient to lift the heater. If for any reason it is considered too heavy then obtain assistance. When lifting always keep your back straight. Bend your legs and not your back. Avoid twisting at the waist. It is better to reposition your feet. Avoid upper body / top heavy bending. Always bend from the knees rather than the waist. Do not lean forward or sideways whilst handling the heater. Always grip with the palm of the hand. Do not use the tips of fingers for support. Always keep the heater as close to the body as possible. This will minimize the cantilever action. Use gloves to provide additional grip. Always use assistance if required. ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS Important Electrical Safety The heater must not be located under an electrical socket; the socket must always be accessible in order to disconnect the heater from the electrical supply for maintenance and cleaning. Important! Do not spray liquids directly onto any surface of the unit. Do not use this heater in the immediate surroundings of a bath, a shower or a swimming pool. This heater must be earthed. The mains supply must be safely routed from the heater to an electrical socket. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or its service agent or a similarly qualified person in order to avoid a hazard. The appliance is not to be used by children or persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they are under supervision Children should be supervised so that they are not allowed to play with the appliance. The plug must be accessible after installation to allow for isolation in an emergency. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. The heater must not be located immediately below a socketoutlet; Warning: In order to avoid overheating, do not cover the heater -2-

3 The heater must not be used if the glass panels are damaged. In order to avoid a hazard due to inadvertent resetting of the thermal cut-out, this appliance must not be supplied through an external switching device, such as a timer, or connected to circuit that is regularly switched on and off by utility. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard Note: When the heater is turned on for the first time, it may release a slight, harmless odour or smoke. This odour or smoke is a normal occurrence caused by the initial heating of the internal heating elements and should not occur again. CAUTIONS Always install the heater in accordance with this guide. If in doubt obtain expert advice. Do s Always make sure the electrical socket is accessible and located adjacent to, but not above the heater. Always disconnect the heater from the electrical supply before moving it, or carrying out cleaning, maintenance or replacing the light bulbs. Always make sure the heater is firmly secured to prevent it from being tipped over. Always use a fireguard when young children and infirm persons can come into contact with the heater. Never leave children unsupervised in a room where the heater is ON and unguarded. Never obstruct or cover the fan outlet or force items into heater openings. Never install or use the heater anywhere where water is in use, i.e. Bathrooms, Kitchens, Shower Rooms, and Swimming Pool etc. Don ts Never use aerosols or steam cleaners on or around the heater. Never route the mains supply cable under carpet etc. Never install the heater close to curtains or combustible materials. Never use the heater to dry clothes etc. Never sit or stand on the heater. -3-

4 Place pebbles into the fireplace 1 First take down the four bolts,put down the glass,put the pebbles on the ember;then put on the glass,tighten up the bolts. BOLT INSTALLATION As shown in below, this model is wall-mounted and rawl-bolts are provided in the package. If a location has been chosen that is not plastered brick/block use appropriate fixings and discard the rawl-bolts. WARNING. Ensure the chosen location is suitable for the weight of the product and is sufficiently heat resistant. 1) Always mount the fireplace horizontally. Note! Make sure the fireplace is at least 200mm above the floor. 2) Drill holes (14mm diameter & 70mm depth) at the location decided for hanging the fireplace; Note! Be sure that the bolts have been fixed firmly enough to withstand the weight. The weight should be evenly shared by each bolt. -4-

5 3) Insert the rawl bolt onto the drilled holes. 4) Tighten the nut with spanner to fix the rawl bolt onto the wall. -5-

6 5) Calling on assistance if required hang the fireplace in the desired position. 6) Refit the washers (plain first, then spring) and nuts. Tighten securely. -6-

7 OPERATION Remove all packaging before use. Control Panel (See also Operating Instructions below) As shown in the photo below you will see the control panel in the bottom side of the heater. Figure 1 Operating Instructions Power Turn this switch on. use. The flame and ember bed will light up and the heater is ready for Note! Pressing Power switch will not turn the heater on. This must be carried out using the remote control. -7-

8 Operating by Remote Control Note. This heater can only be operated using the remote. Take care not to lose Infrared ray exit Indicator light 1. Remove the cover from the back of the remote control. 2. Insert two batteries (two AA dry - cell batteries). Observe polarity. 3. Refit the cover. 1. Plug in your electric fireplace. Figure 2 Remote Control Important! The Main ON/OFF power switch on the fireplace must be in the ON position. 2. When operating the heater with the remote control, it must be pointed at the logset inside the electric stove and the red light must blink each time you press a function button. The blinking red light confirms the remote control is working. Note: Make sure your batteries are installed correctly in your remote control. 3. POWER ON/OFF button of the remote control at the top left is the main ON/OFF power button. -8-

9 4. The +/- buttons control the brightness of flame and ember bed. To increase the brightness, press and release the INCREASE (+) button. Each time you press this button the brightness will increase by a small amount, until the maximum is reached. To decrease the brightness, press and release the DECREASE (-) button. Each time you press this button the brightness will decrease by small amount, until the minimum brightness is reached. 5. HEATER Button: To activate the heater, each time you press this button will change the temperature setting in the order of: LO MED HIGH OFF The heater is pre-set to the following temperatures: HIGH will shut off when room reaches approximately 30 C (86 F). MED will shut off when room reaches approximately 24 C (75 F). LO will shut off when room reaches approximately 18 C (64 F). Note: The Hi/Med/Lo settings do not alter the temperature or strength of the hot air flow leaving the heater. They are pre-set thermostat settings as above. Remark: If the room temperature is above the set temperature, even if press the heater button, there is no operation. For example, if the room temperature is now 20 C, when you press the heater button, the heater will not switch on. 6. To turn the stove off, press the POWER ON/OFF button once. Notice: This remote control must remain within 8 metres of the fireplace and not too far off to either side to be effective. -9-

11 MAINTENANCE Cleaning backing mirrored glass When cleaning unit, the power supply should be disconnected and the unit should be cool. Over time the glass panel may become dirty or dusty. Dust can be removed by lightly rubbing the glass surface with clean, lint free cloth or paper towel. To remove fingerprints or other marks, use a good quality household glass cleaner. The glass panel should be completely dried with a clean, lint free cloth or paper towel. CAUTION: Do not use abrasive cleaners on glass panel. Do not spray liquids directly onto any surface of the unit. Do not clean the glass on the inside of the unit as this may cause damage to the surface. TROBULESHOOTING GUIDE Most problems are simple to resolve - please refer to the following table before calling a service engineer: PROBLEM Stove turns off and will not turn on CAUSE Stove has overheated and safety device has CHECK Reset switch by turning main power switch off and waiting caused thermal switch 5 minutes then turning it back to disconnect or home on. circuit breaker has opened.
