6 As part of the SmartGridCity Device Pilot, you have agreed to participate in Xcel Energy. Device (IHD) participants have greater insight into their household electricity consumption and more control over energy usage. Additionally, these events are designed to help us learn more about electricity usage behavior and how technology can support better ways to serve you while reducing overall environmental impact. During a Event, Xcel Energy will remotely turn off your Sockets and adjust your thermostat + 5 degrees during summer months if your thermostat is in Cooling mode. If your central AC is not turned on then just your Sockets will be turned off during a Event. These events will occur a maximum of 15 times in a calendar year, typically when energy demand is at a critical peak between the hours of 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. will be conducted on the same day as a Peak Energy Event*. For more information on Peak Energy, visit xcelenergy.com/smartgridcity. You will receive an alert at the address you provided during set up and an alert message on your Home Base the day before a Event is scheduled so you can plan ahead. If you wish to participate in a Event either: Tap the Save Energy button on the Home Base Energy Alert screen or Click Learn more on the IHD web portal alert. Then click Save Energy. Or do nothing and you will automatically be opted in to the event You can opt out of a Event on the Home Base or the IHD web portal. The Event could have an additional positive impact on the price you pay or the rebate you receive for your electricity use. Sockets Or, on the IHD web portal, click on the Learn More button next to the Event announcement to view the Opt Out option If you do not Opt In or Opt Out of a Event, you will automatically be opted in to the Event once it begins Once you Opt Out of a Event you may not opt back in to the current Event 9 10
7 Sockets EnergyHub System Q. What if the Home Base doesn t respond when I tap the touch screen? A. Press the reset button on the bottom of the Home Base. If the problem persists, unplug you Home Base. After a few minutes, plug it in again. Q. What if the Home Base won t start up? A. Make sure the Home Base s power adapter is plugged securely into an outlet. If the plug is secure, unplug it and wait a few minutes before plugging it in and trying again. Q. What if the Home Base shows Wi-Fi Off as the Current Wi-Fi Connection? A. From the Wi-Fi Settings screen, tap Enable Wi-Fi to turn Wi-Fi on. Q. What if I don t see the name of my wireless network on the Home Base screen? A. Wait a few seconds for the Home Base to refresh the list of networks. If you still don t see your network, it may be out of range or not working properly. Try moving the Home Base closer to your wireless router. Check that your wireless router is working by trying to connect it to another device, such as a laptop or smart phone. Q. What if I can t connect to my wireless network? A. Make sure you ve selected the correct network and have typed in the network password correctly (if one is required). To see the password as you type it, select the Show password check box located under the password field. Q. What if the Home Base loses its wireless network connection or I see the message Home Base Connection Lost? A. Confirm that your wireless router is working properly and you are connected to the Internet. If you do not have an Internet connection you may need to reboot or contact your Internet provider for further assistance. If your wireless router is connected to your EnergyHub system, make sure your Home Base isn t set to a mode in which your router is configured to be switched off. If you re still having problems with your wireless network: From the Menu, tap the Wi-Fi icon. From the Wi-Fi settings screen, tap Disable Wi-Fi. Wait a few seconds then re-enable Wi-Fi by tapping Enable Wi-Fi. Resume the wireless connection process. Q. What if my appliance won t connect to the Home Base? A. Make sure your appliance is plugged in securely to an EnergyHub Socket. Check to see if your EnergyHub Socket is plugged securely into a wall outlet. If the problem persists, confirm that you have entered the correct three-character code from the back of your EnergyHub Socket into your Home Base during Hardware setup. Confirm that your appliance s power requirements fall within the range supported by your EnergyHub Sockets. You can do this by checking the appliance s user guide, or inspecting the appliance for a plate describing its technical specifications. Energy- Hub Sockets support appliances to a maximum of 15 amps. This typically includes larger appliances such as refrigerators and window air conditioners. WARNING: If your appliance exceeds the amperage supported by an EnergyHub Socket, do not connect it to your EnergyHub system. This poses an electrical hazard and could result in injury. Q. What if I m having trouble configuring the Home Base s mode and schedule settings? Sockets Q. What if I m not sure I m connected to my wireless network? A. From the Menu, tap the About icon. On the About screen, tap Wi-Fi. You should see the following information: IP address/wi-fi MAC address External IP address EnergyHub.com reachable: OK EDX Status: OK A. While editing your schedule, always tap Done before returning to the Menu. Home Base saves changes to your Schedule only after you have tapped Done. Remember: your Home Base will never automatically switch your appliances into Away or Goodnight mode. You must press the Away or Goodnight button to engage Away or Goodnight mode. But your thermostat while it does operate according to the same schedule as your appliances can be set up to switch automatically to Away or Goodnight mode
