USER INSTRUCTIONS FOR AGA COOKERS MODELS OC,OCB,OE,GC,GCB USING THE SNUGHOME PRESSURE JET CONVERSION ISSUE No. 2 DATE: Supplied by: 25th June 2007 Snughome Cookers Ltd. 2 Cromwell Road, Shaw, Newbury, RG14 2HL Tel.No Fax. No No
User Instructions. In order to adapt to the current trends in oil supply, quality and usage our engineers have developed this conversion. These engineers have many years of experience working in this field. The warm up time of the appliance is quicker, and can switched off if not required for some time, and started again by just turning on the electricity. Alternatively it can be left running as normal or can be left at a reduced temperature turning it up when needed. The burner can be used with: Class C2 Kerosene (normal heating fuel), diesel, red diesel, mazoot, or bio diesel. However although the burner will work on Bio-fuels as of this moment the storage of Bio-fuels in outside oil tanks seems to be a problem, manufacturers and ourselves are working on this. This appliance requires a 230V 50 Hz -- 5 A - single phase power supply. When in operation do not remove the burner cover plate. This cover is a protection against live Electricity, should removal be required the power supply to the cooker must be turned off. The Aga Cooker with Snugburner fitted Starting. The Aga fires automatically so it s just a case of switching it on at the mains, and turning the control knob (inside the burner door) to maximum. If you listen carefully you will hear the fan start up and then NOTHING will happen for approximately 3 minutes. This is because the unit has an oil pre-heater installed to allow the use of thick oil (diesel) if you wish. Then the unit will fire and continue to fire on a 3 minute cycle on then off continuously until the optimum heat setting is reached.the oven setting is what you are adjusting by turning the black knob. Domes. Like any Aga the cooker will loose heat from the hot plates if the domes are left up. Simply lower them when you are not cooking on the hot plates. Chimney adjustment, oil adjustment, None of these are required - the burner is fully automatic and no adjustment is required to the chimney or oil. Controlling the Cooker: When using the cooker make sure the electricity to the appliance is switched on. It then can be controlled using the thermostat knob (see photo). With the knob in the off position the appliance will not start, turn it to the desired setting. Temperatures markings on the knob are approximate, if accuracy is required use an oven thermometer.
When the thermostat has been set there will be an initial delay of about 4 minutes before the fan and burner starts. This is normal as this is the time it takes for the pre-heater to warm up and put power to the controls. The burner will then fire for about 3 minutes then go off for 3 minutes. It will continue to do this until the cooker reach- es temperature. Then it will switch off on the thermostat, cycling on the thermostat. But every time the thermostat is calling for heat the burner will cycle on and off. Should the cooker go to lockout there is a reset button on the control box (see photo). Press this and the burner will attempt to fire. If it continues to go to lockout call your local engineer. If it sounds noisy and goes to lockout, then there is a problem with the oil supply. This may be due to lack of oil in the tank, air in the oil line, the fire valve has tripped, or a filter is blocked. Timing the cooker If your lifestyle suggests that the Aga is not going to be used much during the day or night it is possible to fit a simple time clock between the power cable and its plug point. You could set the cooker to be OFF all night, and switch on again some 5 hours before you need to use the oven, or approximately 1 hour before you want to use the hotspot. Thus if you want to cook a main meal at say 7 pm, but are out at work from 9-5 by setting the timer to bring ON the Aga at 1pm it should be ready to roast when you put things in the oven at 6pm. It may be feasible for you to place meals in the oven before you leave for work (such as casseroles), which will be cooked on your return. By careful timing you could substantially reduce your Aga s oil consumption! Servicing The Oil burner requires an annual service. This should be carried out by an OFTEC trained and registered engineer..this is because the burner fires oil through a tiny nozzle at a very high pressure causing wear eventually on the bore of the nozzle. At the same time the burner is sucking in air from the floor of the kitchen along with cat / dog hair etc! This contaminates the fan inlet and causes a reduction of the air / increases the oil to air ratio that the burner generates. The result eventually is a richer mix being burnt so you use MORE oil for less efficiency. Your service engineer will strip out the burner and replace the nozzle and clean the fan, check the rest of the equipment and then re-assemble and fire the Aga- resetting the combustion pressure and air/ oil mix if required. It should take around 2-3 hours for a complete service. Problems. Your burner is designed for a long life and trouble free service but problems can occur as with any burner Running out of Oil. If your burner is starved of oil, even for 1 minute, it will lock out and a red light will glow, visible through the safety cover fitted over the burner. To bleed through the oil requires removal of the cover. To carry out this task you will need a pair of pliers, a small rubber tube (supplied with the burner) and a jam jar or similar to catch the oil. Undo the burner cover plate (it s held by 3 off 6 mm domed nuts), and locate the pump. Attach the bleed pipe to the small nipple next to the thumbscrew and feed the end into the jam jar.
Fire the unit by pressing the red button, the burner will try to fire (maybe after the 3 minute cycle takes place) and oil / air bubbles will be emitted from the tube; after a few seconds the burner will lock out again. Once the oil continues to run out minus bubbles you can tighten the thumbscrew and the burner should run continuously. IF there is a rattling sound from the pump, use the pliers and a rag to gently loosen the high pressure outlet (at the top of the pump) to release air that may be trapped. Tighten once bled. Another thing that MIGHT occur would be an air lock in the grey filter fitted outside the Aga. This filter should be automatically bled but it can be checked easily for any blockage. Turn off the burner at the mains, turn the oil off by using the tap (or lift the black button on the KBB oil cut out valve, located next to the oil filter) and unscrew the bowl into a receptacle. If required clean the plastic filter, ideally with petrol or paraffin, refit into the holder making sure the sealing O ring is in place, and tighten.turn on the oil again. Note this shouldn t cause an air lock in the pump if done without opening the thumb screw on the pump. See photo for location of these parts. Under certain conditions it is possible that on pressing the reset button, the light may go out but nothing happen. This is because the built in timer to cycle the burner is in the off position. It could take up to 3 minutes for it to reset depending on when the button was pushed. THIS IS NORMAL, not a problem. If the unit will not work properly and the problem is not lack of fuel or air locks contact you local Service Enigineer. Electrical problems. Should your burner fail to ignite and no red glow is apparent from the lockout button, please ensure that the fuse / power supply is ok. The fuse should not be replaced with a higher rated version than installed originally should a fuse blow repeatedly please contact your installer for advice.
How Your New Snugburner Works in the Rayburn As we approach the winter some of you are experiencing a few minor hick ups with the operation of your new Snugburner. Please note that ALL appliances have minor problems and so will ours! However as we have spent a lot of time getting it right, we expect fewer problems than most! Operation of the Burner So this is how your burner works. You switch on, or the external time clock switches it on The fan will start to run, but NOTHING ELSE. This is because the burner has an oil pre-heater fitted so that your burner can operate on diesel or other types of thicker oil.so for the first 3 minutes the fan will whir but NO ignition will start- this is NORMAL Then you will hear a ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ noise if you open the door and listen carefully. This is the ignition sparking That will be followed by IGNITION the oily mix combusts with a small explosion and the photo electric cell SEES the flame. If it DOESN T the burner will GO TO LOCK OUT and the button you can see behind the outer cover will glow red. That s to tell you that something is wrong. Its no use PUSHING THE BUTTON until it resets usually about 2 minutes. Again listen and you hear it click resetting So after 2 minutes you can push the button, and the burner should fire. Once its fired, the Photo electric cell will sense the flame and allow the SOLENOID valve to stay open, so that the pump continues to feed oil through that valve, through the pre heater into the nozzle and then into the burner chamber. In the Aga cooker burner there is a timer included which is set to cycle the burner, 3 minutes -on - 3 minutes off. This is to prevent overheating of the castings during warm up. So the burner will automatically go on and off. This cycling will continue until the thermostat is satisfied, it will then switch off and wait for the thermostat to call for heat. Then the cycle starts again except it won t have to re-heat the oil. It will continue until the OVEN THERMOSTAT switches off the burner when your pre-set temperature is reached (on the black line) Why does the RED LOCK OUT LIGHT switch on? The usual reason is a lack of oil. If you RUN OUT of oil, or someone turns it off at the tank the burner WILL LOCK OUT. If the photo cell fails to see the flame it will lock out.this can occur if the burner is set TOO WEAK (i.e. too much air, too little oil).think of your car it probably has an automatic choke to en richen the mix when starting from cold. We can t do that on the burner so the unit must be set to work in any situation. NEW oil. If you have an old tank, and have a new delivery of oil it STIRS up the muck at the bottom of the tank the water goes to the bottom and can feed into the pipeline. Your burner will lock out if it tries to fire water! If you are able, turn the burner OFF when you get a new supply of oil for at least an hour also turn OFF the tap at the tank, and let it all settle before re-opening the tap THEN re-fire the Appliance. Mucky Oil. Your burner has 2 extra oil filters one outside the cooker (the silver bowl on the pipeline) and one inside the oil pump. Both should strain the oil very clean but if they get blocked the reduced flow could cause a lock out. If you have to press the lock out button regularly please consult your oil engineer as there is something that needs checking. An occasional lock out is just one of those things!
