2 We have the Solution! - Introduction and short Overview Crime Scene Cleanup and also clearing out and cleaning up so-called Hoarder-apartments and houses are cleaning specialties that may only be carried out effectively and successfully by suitably trained personnel. In order to be successful it is necessary to be confident and empathic as well as have the necessary know-how. In both cases one is usually confronted with situations where the contamination to be removed is not only dirt but bodily fluids and products of decay. As a result it is essential for the cleaning personnel to be serious about and take according measures regarding personal protection. This includes the necessary equipment such as protective clothing, eye and hand protection as well as breathing equipment, if necessary. Subsequently it is important to protect non-affected persons by closing off the premises for non authorized persons. Only then may one proceed with the actual cleanup/cleaning procedures. Before proceeding in both cases it is sensible to determine whether or not a preceding odor neutralization is required. This does not free one of the necessary odor neutralization after the cleanup is completed, however. When applying odor control as a first measure there are several possibilities that should be considered: Ozone treatment: suitable, if the odor causing substances are only in the air or the goal is to simply treat the odor molecules in the air for temporary relief. For this purpose we offer our small, handy, but powerful CEBE zon ozone generators - with an ozone output from 100mg to 6 grams per hour. Thermal fogging: with this method, too, only the air is treated - used mechanisms for odor control range from oxidation similar to ozone treatment to encapsulation. For this purpose we offer the thermal fogger TM-1500B. Cold/Mechanical fogging: in this method the air is treated as a side effect of the actual process but not as effectively as with thermal fogging. Primarily the goal is to generate a very fine mist that will wet the surfaces in order to either constrain or destroy odor causing substances. For this purpose we offer our Cold/Wet Fogger. Spraying surfaces: the purpose here is similar to that when using wet/cold fogging: treat surfaces in order to control the odor. For fogging and spraying we have a number of different products which may be used: Kill Odor T: a ready to use formulated odor neutralizer which destroys odor causing bacteria as a first measure in odor control. Kill Odor T is based on tea-tree and thyme oil and has in addition to its odor neutralizing properties a strong indigenous scent that has an immediate relief effect. Ultra Fresh as a pre-treatment for textile flooring. Kill Odor OX as an oxidation agent for non-porous surfaces. This product may be sprayed or fogged in the cold fogging process in order to also partially neutralize odors in the air. DriOx Ultra an oxidizing agent for porous surfaces too. DriOx Ultra may be fogged either mechanically or thermally in order to treat the air as well. Dry Fog: for this purpose especially the Mint version which is highly effective against odors of decay. This product is especially formulated for the dry fogging process. The next step is determining what the extent of the contamination is. At this point it is important to examine all surfaces closely, note the construction, and also to determine the degree of penetration when the surfaces are porous in order to lay down whether or not these have to be treated or replaced. This is important especially in situations where a dead body has been in one spot for an extended period of time. The bodily fluids that have exited have had sufficient time to penetrate any porous surfaces. In this case, like in the case of a cement underground, simply cleaning the surface is not enough. Instead, special chemicals that penetrate deeply and are still effective or indeed, a renewal of that area may be necessary. Exactly the same may be the case in a messy apartment, for example, where objects have decayed over a long period of time and liquefied remains may penetrate porous substrates as well. 1
