5 RUN MACHINE AT RECOMMENDED SPEED DRIVING MOTOR PULLEY AND BELTING 1. Do not run the machine at more than 5,000 s.p.m. for first 4 weeks. 2. At the end of 4 weeks, original oil should be drained out and replaced. Thereafter the machine may be operated at normal speed. 3. Oil level should be always kept between two lines on Oil Sight Gauge. Lack of lubrication may cause accidental seizure of parts. Each machine should use a motor and belt of the following specifications: 1. Clutch motor: 3 phase, 2 pole, 400 watts {1/2HP). 2. Belt: V belt, Type M. 3. Motor pulley: as shown in Table 1. Machine Pulley Diameter is 60.0mm. Motor Pulley Diameter should be measured at its outer diameter. MACHINE INSTALLATION This machine is designed for semisubmerged installation for efficient and effortless operation. The details are shown in the Manual contained in shipping container, which includes the sketch, description and pattern sheet. SCREWING TORQUE The figures, which are shown in the illustrations and expressed by 'xxkg-cm', represent the correct screwing torque when the relating screws, bolts or nuts are tightened. For fixing the main moving parts described in this book, it is recommended to use torque gauges so that the relating screws or nuts can be tightened with a correct torque specified. 13 THREADING Fig. 6 When a machine is received, note that it has been.threaded correctly. The simplest way to rethread it is to tie the new threads to those already in the machine and pull the new threads through, making sure that the knots will go through the looper eyes. In case the machine requires a complete rethreading, refer to Threading Diagram. REGULATING THREAD TENSION Fig. 6 The amount of tension varies with type of material, size and type of thread, etc. Adjust individual thread tensions as follows. To increase tension Turn nut clockwise To decrease tension Turn nut counter clockwise. Tension on thread should be just enough to secure proper stitch formation. Normally, you should have more tension on the needle threads and less tension on the looper threads. 15 PRESSURE OF PRESSER FOOT Fig. 7 Pressure of Presser Foot is regulated by means of Pressure Regulating Thumb Screw. Pressure on Presser Foot should be just enough to feed material and obtain proper stitch formation. Too much pressure may spoil material and give it more stretch than it needs. Too little pressure may cause uneven feeding or stitches. 1. Loosen Lock Nut To increase pressure: Turn Screw 0 clockwise. To decrease pressure: Turn Screw 0 counter-clockwise. 3. After obtaining a proper pressure, tighten Nut 0. REGULATING SEAM WIDTH Fig. 8 The position of Upper Knife to the inside needle regulates the seam width. 1.Turn Handwheel until Upper Knife is at its lowest position. 2. Loosen Lower Knife Holder Screw O. 3. Push Lower Knife Holder 0 to the right as far as it will go and lightly tighten screw O. 4. Loosen Upper Knife Clamp Screw 0 and move Upper Knife Clamp O to the right or left until desired width is obtained. 5. 21 REGULATING STITCH LENGTH Fig. 14,15 Stitch length is determined by the combination of main and differential feed eccentrics to be used. Outer eccentric actuates differential feed. Inner eccentric O actuates main feed. The number stamped on feed eccentric indicates the number of stitches per inch. However, the stitches made may vary more or less depending upon the material. Selecting eccentric When the stamped number of differential feed eccentric (e.g. #8) is smaller than that of main feed eccentric (e.g. #12), material will tend to shrink in stitching. When the stamped number of differential feed eccentric (e.g. #14) is larger than that of main feed eccentric (e.g. #10), material will tend to stretch in stitching. Changing eccentric Fig. 14,15 1. Remove Nut O and from Crankshaft. 2. Screw extractor, furnished with the machine, into screwholeof Differential Feed Eccentric (Spacer for R57L-14S and -19) and take it out. 3. Screw extractor into screw hole of Main Feed Eccentric O (Eccentric for R57L-14S and -19) and take it out. 4. Be sure to Eccentrics and mating parts are clean. Clean Eccentrics in oil to remove all dirt and dust deposits before placing in the machine. 5. Face the extruded portion outward (rightward) and insert Main Feed Eccentric O (Eccentric for R57L-14S and -19) on the crankshaft mating the eccentric groove with the crankshaft key. Use extractor. 6. Face the extruded portion outward (rightward) and insert Differential Feed Eccentric (Spacer for R57L-14S and -19) in the crankshaft mating the groove with the key. Use extractor. 7. Replace Washer and Nut O. 8. Tighten Nut O. Fig. 14 O 35Kg-cm From 20 the library of: Superior Sewing Machine & Supply LLC

39 CHAINING THREAD It is necessary to have a chaining thread approximately 10mm long behind the presser foot when starting to sew. This will avoid "skip-stitches". After replacing needles or thread, check that a continuous, smooth neat chaining thread comes out from under the presser foot. DAILY MAINTENANCE Before morning start * Check oil level is correctly maintained in oil sight gauge. * Check needle is correctly set and not damaged. * Check threading is correct. * Check chaining thread of approximately 10mm long remains behind presser foot. HOW TO CLEAN YOUR MACHINE Cleaning the machine is a simple but important operation. It is not necessary to remove any parts. Merely release the foot and swing it out to the left. Swing out the covers and remove all thecollected lint from around the loopers, feed slots, and under the needle plate. Blow out any loose lint or use a lint brush. Replace covers and return foot to the sewing position. After close of work * Remove dust and lint deposited in the machine specially around needle plate and looper. * If any trouble or irregularity is found, report it to the plant mechanic for adjustment or repair. * Keep record showing number of needle and thread breakage a day. * Dust cover, furnished with machine, should be placed on the machine.
