5 Omicron multifunctional units The Omicron are polyvalent units for outdoor installation applied to 2 pipe water air conditioning systems providing chiller water for summer cooling, hot water for winter heating on the same hydraulic circuit, and in a completely autonomous way, hot water for sanitary use all year via one or more dedicated heat recovery condensers. The units have one or two refrigerant circuits according to the capacity and have two hermetic scroll type compressors with orbital motion on each circuit. OMICRON 4T Unit for 4 pipes hydronic air conditioning systems, which enables to have all year around chiller water for the summer cooling and hot water for the winter heating contemporaneously (heat recovery) or in a autonomous way on two dedicated heat exchangers. OMICRON 2T Reversible air/water heat pump with production of sanitary hot water for 2 pipe water air conditioning systems. Blue Box 1

6 OMICRON 4T: Operation of unit in summer mode - The unit operates in cooling only mode provides chilled water at the heat exchanger user side (evaporator - 03) while heat is rejected by the external side heat exchanger (condenser - 02). - The unit operates in cooling + heat recovery mode provides chilled water on the user side heat exchanger (evaporator - 03) while free heat is recovered to heat the water of the hydro sanitary system through the sanitary side heat exchanger (24). - The unit operates in summer heting only mode provides the facility to produce only hot water on the hot side heat exchanger (24) also when the chilled water temperature of the system is at steady conditions. The electronic control allows the unit to meet the various different requirements of the system throughout the year (see operating limits) via fan speed control. Operation of unit in winter mode - The unit operates in winter heating only mode provides hot water on the on the hot side heat exchanger (24); evaporation occurs on the external side heat exchanger (02). - Defrost is the system where ice formation on the external side exchanger (02), which could let to stop the unit, is eliminated. 7 OMICRON 2T: Operation of unit in summer mode - The unit operates in cooling only mode provides chilled water at the heat exchanger user side (evaporator - 03) while heat is rejected by the external side heat exchanger (condenser - 02). - The unit operates in cooling + sanitary hot water mode provides the facility to produce chilled water on the user side heat exchanger (evaporator - 03) while free heat is recovered to heat the water of the hydro sanitary system through the sanitary side heat exchanger (24). - The unit operates in summer sanitary hot water only mode provides the facility to produce only sanitary hot water on the sanitary side heat exchanger (24); evaporation occurs on the heat exchanger situated in the external side (02). Operation of unit in winter mode - The unit operates in room heating only mode provides hot water on the user side exchanger (condenser - 03); evaporation occurs on the external side heat exchanger (02). - The unit operates in winter sanitary hot water only mode provides the facility to produce only sanitary hot water on the sanitary side heat exchanger (24); evaporation occurs on the heat exchanger situated in the external side (02). Given that the unit cannot also produce hot water for room heating simultaneously, priority can be given to demands for sanitary hot water or heating circuit via the proper parameter of the microprocessor control. - Defrost is the system where ice formation on the external side exchanger (02), which could let to stop the unit, is eliminated. Note: Simultaneous operation of heat pump + recovery is not possible because one mode must take priority. It is necessary to give the priority to either the heat pump or the recovery. Blue Box 3

8 Control of condensation and evaporation pressure This function, required to allow the unit to meet the various different requirements of the system throughout the year, is performed by fan speed control in accordance with the pressure read by the transducers. - Unit OMICRON: Condensing pressure control by fan speed regulator Fan speed is regulated in accordance with the condensation pressure read by the pressure transducers. This allows to extend the operating limits and allows the use under various environment conditions. - Unit OMICRON/CF: Condensation pressure regulation using modulating dampers Regulation is achieved by varying the flow rate of air through the coil in accordance with the condensation pressure read by the pressure transducers. This allows to extend the operating limits and allows the use under various environment conditions. UNIT FRAME Self-supporting frame with removable panels clad with expanded polyurethane sound-absorbing matting, made of galvanised sheet steel with 180 C baked-on polyester powder coating (Colour RAL 5014) to provide a durable weatherproof finish. Threaded fasteners in stainless steel. COMPRESSORS Hermetic type orbital scroll compressors, connected in tandem and equipped with an oil level sight glass, Klixon internal thermal protection and oil equalisation line. The enclosure, which accommodates the compressors and separates them from the air stream, is acoustically insulated by means of sound-absorbing material. Access to the enclosure is permitted even when the unit is running, by removing specifically designed panels. CONDENSER (in chiller mode)/evaporator (heat pump mode) Composed of a high efficiency coil manufactured from copper tubes and aluminium fins. Metal filters are installed as standard to protect the finned core. FANS Units OMICRON: Axial fans directly coupled to 6 pole motors with internal Klixon overload protection. The motor protection is IP 54. The fan is equipped as standard with a safety mesh grille in accordance with UNI EN 294. Unit OMICRON/CF: Centrifugal double inlet type, statically and dynamically balanced, with belt, pulley and three -phase 4-pole motor drive. The fan is equipped with a safety grille to UNI EN 294. EVAPORATOR Stainless steel 316 AISI brazed plate exchanger, thermally insulated with closed cell expanded material. Each evaporator is equipped with a freeze protection temperature probe and each unit features a mechanical flow switch. HEAT RECOVERY CONDENSER Stainless steel 316 AISI brazed plate exchanger, thermally insulated with closed cell expanded material or with pressed polystyrene. REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT Includes: liquid line shut-off valve, charge connections, liquid line sight glass, filter dryer, thermostatic expansion valve with external pressure equalisation, high and low pressure switches for 2 compressors units. For 4-compressor models high and low pressure values and relative condensation and evaporation temperatures are measured by pressure transducers that relay the signals to the controller so that they can be read directly on the display. The high pressure side of the circuit is also equipped with high pressure switches and relief valves. ELECTRICAL PANEL The electrical panel includes: - Main switch; - Thermal-magnetic circuit breakers for the pumps (if available) - Compressor fuses for the power circuit - Fan fuses on OMICRON units and Thermal-magnetic circuit breakers on OMICRON/FC units Blue Box 4

9 - Compressor contactors; - Fan contactors; - Pump contactors(only version ST P); - Microprocessor to control the following functions: - water temperature regulation; - Freeze protection; - Compressor time intervals; - Compressor start sequence and automatic lead/lag selection; - Alarm signalling; - Alarm reset; - Common alarm contact for remote signalling; - Display for: - inlet and outlet water temperature; - Programmed temperature set-point and differentials; - Alarm descriptions; - Compressor hours run meter; - Number of starts of the unit and the compressors; - High and low pressure values and relative condensation and evaporation temperature values. - Black box function. Electrical power supply [V/f/Hz]: 400/3~/50 ±5% CONTROLS AND SAFETY DEVICES - Chilled water temperature probe (at evaporator inlet) - Freeze protection probe at the outlet of each evaporator - Safety high pressure switch with manual reset - Low pressure switch (with automatic/manual reset controlled by the control) - High pressure relief valve - Compressors over temperature protection; - Fans over temperature protection; - Mechanical flow switch, supplied as standard on all units, as kit for units 3.2 to 13.2, and factory installed for units 14.4 to Probe to control inlet and outlet water temperature (on inlet and outlet of condenser) TESTING The units are tested in the factory and supplied complete with oil and refrigerant. HYDRAULIC MODULE OPTIONS Omicron /ST 2PS : unit with storage tank and pumps. n addition to the components of version STD, this unit includes: insulated storage tank; run and standby circulating pumps, with automatic changeover, expansion tank, check valves and gate valves. Version ST is available in the following additional four configurations: - ST 1PS : with 1 pump and tank; - ST 1P : with 1 pump and no tank. - ST 2P : with 2 pumps and no tank; - ST S : with tank and no pumps; ACCESSORY VERSIONS Version LN: low noise unit In addition to the components of version OMICRON, this unit includes: compressor compartment with full sound insulation using expanded polyurethane sound absorption material with an intermediate layer of high acoustic impedance material applied to the sides of the compartment. Version SLN: extra low noise unit. In addition to the components of version LN, this unit is designed to operate with a slower fan speed to further reduce noise levels. REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT ACCESSORIES - Pressure gauges Blue Box 5

10 - High and low pressure gauges are available,as an option, for all models. As standard on 4-compressor units low pressure values and relative, condensation and evaporation temperatures are measured by pressure transducers that relay signals that are displayed on the controller. - Compressor suction and discharge valves. HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT ACCESSORIES - Water side relief valve (version ST only). The value is set at 6 bar, corresponding to the maximum permissible working pressure. ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES - Leaving water temperature control; - RS485 serial interface supporting Carel, Modbus, Echelon and Bacnet protocols; can also be interfaced with Johnson and Trend supervision; - SMS service for management of service; - Single voltage-free contacts for machine status signals; - Power factor correction cosfi >= 0.9 at nominal operating conditions; VARIUOS ACCESSORIES - Rubber anti-vibration mounts on all models - Spring type anti-vibration mounts on models 18.4 to 26.4; - Timber crate packing; - Pallet/skid for container shipment; - Mesh coil guard with metallic filter.
