3 Columbia Gas of Massachusetts (CMA) Placeholder Service Territories 2008 Priorities Three service territories in Massachusetts: Greater Brockton, Greater Lawrence, Greater Springfield areas. We serve 64 cities and towns; about 300,000 customers of which 10% are on commercial rates. 3
4 Why Do We Offer Energy Efficiency Programs? Columbia Gas has offered Energy Efficiency services since the 1980s (DSM or Partners in Energy) Environmental responsibility is key to becoming a premier energy company it s the right thing to do Customer satisfaction Help customers save energy and money Improve comfort in homes and commercial buildings Required by MA statute MA Green Communities Act signed July 2, 2008 Since 2009, gas and electric companies in MA have been required to offer more comprehensive Energy Efficiency programs 3 Year Plan with the DPU, budget and savings goals A usage-based charge is applied to every utility bill and this funds the Energy Efficiency programs 4

A collaborative sponsored by Massachusetts gas and electric utilities and energy efficiency service providers Contributing sponsors include Berkshire Gas, Cape Light Compact, Columbia Gas of MA, Eversource, Liberty Utilities, National Grid, and Unitil CMA works closely with other utility companies so customers anywhere in the state have the same opportunity and benefits or SAVE(7283) 5
6 C&I EE Program Breakdown Customers are served based on annual therm consumption Small customers (less than 40k therms) Medium customers (40k to 250k therms) Large customers (over 250k therms) Energy assessments and whole building studies We share the cost with the customer and sometimes the electric PA Incentives for approved Energy Efficiency measures Measures are screened through a Benefit Cost calculation We offer a customized package of incentives Zero percent financing Up to $500,000 6
7 Zero Percent Financing Interest-Free Loans from $5,000 to $500,000 Interest payments buy-down pre-paid by Program Administrator utilizing the rebate to bring the interest down to zero (or near-zero). Up to 7 year terms Subject to Third Party Approval Link: 7
8 C&I Custom Incentive Program and Assessments 2008 Priorities Business Size What You Will Receive Potential Incentive Amount Small Business < 40,000 therms per year Medium to Large Business > 40,000 therms per year Free walk through evaluation or plans analysis Report with recommendations and potential savings Free walk through evaluation (or preinspection) If a comprehensive energy evaluation and scoping study report is required, 50% incentive up to $7,500 70% of the installed cost up to $50,000 per master meter 50% of the installed cost up to $100,000 per master meter per year 8
9 Boiler Controls Measure Description: Controls adjust burner run pattern to match load resulting in lower operating costs and reduced fuel usage. Commercial applications include hydronic and steam boiler systems larger than 400,000 BTU input Best Applications: Medium size >400,000 Btu boilers Savings Expected: 2,000 to 6,000 therms savings per project Cost Estimates: $2,000 to $4,000 installed Columbia Gas Incentive: 50% installed cost Manufacturer: Intellidyne, Tekmar (OA reset), Heat Timer, Heat Watch Reference: 9
10 Burner Controls Measure Description: Parallel positioning, oxygen trim controls for steam boilers to dial in the fuel/air ratio. Best Applications: Large Steam Boilers (process or space heating) Savings Expected: 10,000 to 20,000 therms savings per project Cost Estimates: $40,000 to $60,000 installed Columbia Gas Incentive: 50% installed cost Manufacturers: Autoflame, Fireye, Honeywell Image Reference: 10
11 Heat Recovery Measure Description: Capture waste heat from process applications (air compressors, kitchen exhaust hoods, refrigeration, drainwater, heat treating and other high temperature manufacturing processes) to pre-heat cold water supply for hot water loops and other processes. Transport Membrane Condenser is one technology for power plant and large industrial applications. Best Applications: Thermal Oxidizers, Steam Boiler Exhaust and Blow-down, Process Heaters, Kilns, Dryers, Air Compressors, Large co-generation / power plants Savings Expected: 5,000 to 20,000 therms savings per project Cost Estimates: $10,000 to $40,000 installed Columbia Gas Incentive: 50% installed cost Image Source: 11
12 Condensing Rooftops Measure Description: A new rooftop unit with condensing technology and more efficient features. 13 Direct Contact Water Heaters Measure Description: Water comes in direct physical contact with combustion gases for heating. Best Applications: pharmaceuticals, textiles, laundry, greenhouses, warehouses, materials production, food processing Savings Expected: unknown Columbia Gas Incentive: 50% of installed cost (retrofit), up to 75% incremental cost (new/replacement of failed equipment) Manufacturers: Ludell, Sofame Technologies, Kemco Image Reference: 13
14 Ozone / Low Temperature Laundry Measure Description: Commercial laundry system that provides the same level of cleanliness and whiteness. The chemical system, a combination of detergent, bleach, softener and whitening agent, enables reduced consumption of hot water which provides energy, water, and sewer cost savings. Washing machines are programed by technical representatives to use less hot water, ensuring compliance. Best Applications: hotels, motels, hospitals, nursing care Savings Expected: 2,000 to 4,000 therms savings per project Cost Estimates: <$20,000 installed Columbia Gas Incentive: 50% installed cost Manufacturers: Aquanomic, Aquawing, P&G Reference: 14
15 Cold Water Laundry Measure Description: A new laundry system that uses polymer beads with ambient water to clean all ranges of laundry materials. No hot water requirements. The cleaning process was invented at University of Leeds.
