3 1 SAFETY 1.1 Safety instructions 1.2 Repair instructions Caution! Danger! Repairs may be carried out only by customer service engineers trained by the manufacturer! The user may be put at considerable risk and injured by improper repairs! If the appliance is faulty, the housing or frame may be live! Do not touch components in the appliance. Even the modules can be live! Before commencing repairs, ALWAYS disconnect the appliance from the power supply! If tests have to be conducted while the appliance is live, ALWAYS use a residual-current-operated circuit-breaker! The protective conductor connection must not exceed the standardised values! This is essential if no persons are to be injured and the appliance is to operate correctly! When repairs are complete, conduct a test in accordance with VDE 0701 or the corresponding national regulations as well as a performance test! Conduct a leak and performance test on the refrigeration circuit. Comply with ESD information! NEVER attempt repairs by randomly replacing components! ALWAYS proceed systematically and comply with the technical documentation for the appliance! As a rule, printed-circuit boards are not repaired but are completely replaced with original spare parts. Exceptions are documented separately. When handling refrigerants, wear goggles and protective gloves. If refrigerant splashes into eyes, rinse with plenty of water. 5 3 OPERATION 3.3 Super Cool button The coldest temperature setting is selected with the Super Cool button. Coldest refrigerator compartment temperature = 2 C Press the button again to deactivate the Super cooling function. 3.4 Super Freeze button 3.1 Freezer Set button The freezer compartment temperature is adjusted with the left Set button. Setting range = 16 C to 22 C Factory setting = 19 C 3.2 Refrigerator Set button The refrigerator compartment temperature is adjusted with the right Set button. Setting range = 2 C 8 C Factory setting = 4 C The coldest temperature setting is selected with the Super Freeze button. Coldest freezer compartment temperature = 22 C Press the button again to deactivate the Super freezing function. 3.5 Dispenser button Three operating modes can be selected with the Dispenser button. The three operating modes are: drinking water, crushed ice and ice cubes. If there is no button input for 1 h after selecting cubed ice or crushed ice, the mode turns to drinking water. 3.6 Ice Maker Lock button The Ice Maker Lock button locks the Dispenser button. 7 4 COMPONENTS 4.2 Ice maker 4.1 Control module The control module is situated on the appliance. The Time shortening switch reduces the run times. e.g. compressor start-up lockout, fan switch-on delay, etc. Briefly pressing the switch once reduces the time by 1 min. Continuously pressing the switch reduces the time every two seconds by 1 min. Maximum reduction time is 30 min. The ice cube tray is swivelled by a motor. In doing so, the plastic tray turns and the ice cubes fall out. The horizontal switch interrupts the motor and the ice cube tray is moved back to the original position. The ice cubes are ejected: after 130 min and when the ice sensor is colder than 12.5 C. The ice sensor is situated under the ice cube tray. The amount of ice presses the On / Off lever upwards and ice making stops. When the amount of ice decreases, the lever drops and ice making is restarted. 823_ _ara_en_u Seite 7 von 50

8 4.3 Drinking water tank The storage container for drinking water is situated behind the drawers. Whenever water is dispensed, warmer mains water flows in. The cold and warm water mixes and causes a temperature increase. The water will taste stale if it is not dispensed for a prolonged period. Empty the water tank so that fresh water can flow in again. 9 4.4 Vario box Vegetables = 3 C (required temperature) Fish = 1 C (required temperature) Meat = 3 C (required temperature) Off = Vario box not supplied with cold air Select = Temperature selection The cold air flows in the rear area into the air inlet opening and moves through the left side panel to the air outlet. The air flow rate is controlled by an NTC sensor in the rear panel and via a flap in the air outlet opening. The flap is heated: Heater = 5 W, Flap open = heater off Flap closed = heater on Test programme Enter programme: Hold down the Select button for 2 sec. The Vario box temperature is displayed Press the Select button once OP is displayed and the Vario box flap is opened. Press the Select button twice CL is displayed and the Vario box flap is closed. 11 4.6 Freezer compartment fan Fan operation: Exceptions: The freezer compartment fan always runs whenever the compressor is running. The freezer compartment fan starts with a switch-on delay of 60 s after the compressor starts. The freezer compartment fan does not run if one of the two doors is open. 12 5 FUNCTIONS 5.1 Test programme Entering the programme: Press the Lock button. Press and hold down the freezer set button. Press the Super Freeze button 5 times. Exiting the programme: Press the Lock button for 4 sec. If no button is pressed for 4 min., the appliance automatically switches back to normal mode. Press the Freezer Set button to select the individual test steps and the fault displays. 13 5.2 Cooling system The appliance features a single-circuit cooling system utilising No-Frost technology with circulating air. The evaporator is situated in the freezer compartment. The refrigerator compartment fan supplies the refrigerator compartment with cold air from the freezer compartment. The refrigerator compartment fan runs whenever the refrigerator compartment sensor requires refrigeration. 14 5.3 Waterflow 5.4 Defrosting The defrost phase is started when: - Appliance runtime> 60h or -Compressor runtime> 24h or -Compressor runtime > 6h and one of criteria below is fulfilled - operating rate >85% of compressor - Total door opening time > 2 min. - An error displayed on displayed (R1, F1, D1, F3, door switch). Defrosting Precooling: Compressor runs until freezer compartment sensor -27 C or runtime > 50 min. 1. Freezer compartment fan is constantly on. 2. Refrigerator compartment fan is in normal service. 3. Evaporator heater is off. Defrosting: 1. Defrost heater is on. 2. Both fans and compressor are off. 3. Defrosting ends when evaporator sensor reaches 13 C. 4. If evaporator sensor is defective, process will take 30 min ( error display "d1"). 5. 15 Pause: After defrosting both fans and compressor are switched off for 7 min. Fan switch-on delay: Both fans start 5 min. after startup of compressor. 5.5 Manual defrosting The defrosting phase can be actuated manually. Press the Lock button. 16 5.6 Door alarm If the door alarm sounds, the refrigerator compartment door or freezer compartment door has been open for longer than 1 min. Three beeps sound every 30 s until the door is closed again. If the door or doors are open for longer than 7 min., the interior light goes out. However, the alarm keeps sounding until the door is closed again. 5.8 Switching over temperature unit The temperature display can be switched from C to F or from F to C. Press the Lock button. Hold down the Super Freeze button for at least 15 s. 5.7 Demo programme Enter programme: Press the Lock button. Press and hold down the refrigerator Set button. Press the Dispenser button 5 times. Exit programme: Press and hold down the refrigerator Set button. Press the Dispenser button 5 times. Or interrupt the power supply. Demo programme: All temperatures are indicated consecutively. 17 6 REPAIR 6.1 Opening the refrigeration circuit Whenever the refrigeration circuit is opened, always replace the dryer before evacuating and filling the refrigeration circuit. 6.2 Leaks on intake side If the refrigeration circuit leaks on the intake side, resulting in repairs, always replace the compressor and dryer. If atmospheric humidity penetrates the refrigeration circuit, the oil in the compressor will be irreversibly contaminated. 823_ _ara_en_u Seite 17 von 50

18 6.3 Location of sensors Evaporator sensor Freezer compartment / refrigerator compartment sensor The air conductor in the freezer compartment must be removed before the evaporator sensor can be changed. Both sensors can be changed. Prise off the sensor boxes with the flat blade of a screwdriver. The fan cover in the refrigerator compartment must be removed before the refrigerator compartment sensor can be changed Ice-maker sensor The ice-maker sensor is located under the ice tray. 22 6.7 Changing the heater Evaporator heater Attaching an additional thermal link As a spare part the evaporator heater has a separate thermal link. This thermal link is attached in the upper, right area of the evaporator. The air conductor in the freezer compartment must be removed before the evaporator heater can be changed. 23 6.7.3 Air-conductor heater Water supply heater The heater on the air conductor in the freezer compartment prevents condensation. The heater runs parallel with the compressor. The heater cannot be changed separately, the complete rear panel must be replaced. Power = 7 watts Resistance = 6.8 kω The water supply pipe on the ice maker is surrounded by a heater. 25 6.8 Changing the thermal link Thermal links were temporarily delivered with a shorter connection cable. In this case the thermal link is attached in the upper, left area of the evaporator. The thermal link is attached to the evaporator. The thermal link can be changed separately. The thermal link is a fusible cut-out and must be replaced when it has tripped. 27 6.10 Changing the water supply flow rate The water flow rate is controlled by a flow sensor. The flow sensor is located in the water supply valve and cannot be changed. The water supply flow rate can be adjusted as follows: Press the Lock button. Press and hold down the freezer Set button. Press the Super Freeze Set button 5 times. Press the Freezer Set button 5 times until P100 is displayed. Factory setting : P100 = 86 ml Pressing the Super Cool button increases the water flow rate P101 = 87 ml, P102 = 88 ml, etc. Pressing the refrigerator Set button reduces the water flow rate P99 = 85 ml, P98 = 84 ml, etc. Exit programme: Press the Lock button for 4 sec. 28 6.11 Removing the door handle Using a cross-tip screwdriver, unscrew the grub screw on the underside of the handle. Pull the lower part of the handle forwards. Place the lower part of the handle next to the fastening bolt and pull down. 823_ _ara_en_u Seite 28 von 50

29 6.12 Exchange display electronic Prerequisite: Door handle is disassembled. Remove hexagon screw on the top of the door cover panel. Assemble door cover panel and screws. To remove the screw on the bottom of the door cover panel, lean appliance backwards! Remove Phllips screw on the bottom of the door cover panel. 36 6.18 Sanitisation Sanitisation set There are two different material numbers for the garden pump and the other components in the set, and these can be found in the tool catalogue in the Quickfinder Sanitisation liquid The liquid HUWASAN med 2 is used for sanitisation. 37 Carrying out the sanitisation D AN G E R Exposed live parts Risk of death due to electric shock Disconnect the appliance from the mains. N O T E The microbiological substance is not sufficiently reduced in the water system To successfully sanitise the appliance, all quantity and time specifications must be complied with. Use the current-operated circuit breaker if live tests are required. Do not touch the housing, frame, or components. Ensure that the resistance of the earthing conductor does not exceed the standardised value. C A U T I O N Injuries may be caused by liquid spraying out After finishing the sanitation work, empty the pressure tank completely and depressurise it. N O T E Any microbiological substance in the water filter is not sufficiently removed by sanitisation Before sanitisation, replace the filter with a bypass. 38 1. Unscrew the appliance's water inlet hose from the tap. 2. Replace the water filter with a dummy filter. 3. Pour 5 litres of sanitisation solution into the pressure tank of the garden pump and close the lid. 4. Connect the garden pump hose to the water inlet hose of the appliance and open the tap. 5. Increase the pressure in the garden pump to max. 5 bar. 6. Dispense 3 litres of liquid from the water dispenser into the measuring beaker, and pour it away. 7. Disconnect the appliance plug from the power supply. 8. Remove and empty the ice container, then disconnect and remove the ice maker. 9. Attach the hose to the water inlet pipe of the ice maker. 10. Position the measuring beaker and place the hose in it. 11. Increase the pressure in the garden pump to max. 5 bar again. 12. Remove the rear cover of the machine room and connect the grounding conductor of the mains cable (i.e. of the two mains cables) to the protective conductor terminal of the appliance, on the left side of the machine room. (view of the rear of the appliance) 13. Connect the mains cable to the solenoid valve for the ice maker and, if applicable, to the safety valve as well. 14. Insert the current-operated circuit breaker into the socket and connect with the extension cable (the switch is in the off position). Then insert both mains cables into the distributor. 15. By switching the distributor on and off, activate the solenoid valve (solenoid valves) until 1 litre of liquid has poured into the measuring beaker. Pour away the liquid. 16. Allow the sanitisation solution to take effect for 30 minutes. Empty and depressurise the garden pump. 17. Close the tap on the hose of the garden pump and reconnect the water inlet hose of the appliance to the tap 18. Position the measuring beaker in the ice maker space and insert the hose into the measuring beaker. By switching the distributor on and off, activate the solenoid valves until 5 litres of liquid has been poured out. Pour away the liquid. 19. Disconnect the electrical connection by pulling the currentoperated circuit breaker out of the socket. Disconnect the auxiliary cable connections and return the connections on the solenoid valve (solenoid valves) to their original state. 20. Perform a leak test and reinstall the appliance. 21. Check the effectiveness of the protective measures. 22. Plug the mains plug of the appliance into the mains. 23. Draw 5 litres of liquid from the water dispenser and pour it away. 24. Insert a new water filter. 25. Advice to customers: Throw away any ice produced in the next 24 hours. Draw fresh water regularly. 42 7.4 Ice maker test switch 7.5 Coating of black doors defective Fault: In the upper front or side area defective coating on black doors. Affected areas have a wavy, wrinkled appearance. Remedial action: 1. Remove any protective film. 2. Localise defective area. 3. Switch on a commercially available hot air device (e.g. hair dryer) with a blow-out temperature of 80 C to 90 C. 4. Bring the blow-out opening close to the affected area and treat with hot air for 10 s to 15 s, moving the appliance up and down 5 or 6 times. If the ice maker malfunctions: Simulate an ice-making cycle with the test switch. Attention! Do not direct the hot air permanently in the same place, risk of fire! When removing surface defects from the side of the door, cover the upper edge of the door with a suitable material to avoid deformations! 44 7.7 Refrigerator compartment too warm Fault: The refrigerator compartment is too warm. No or too little cold air is flowing from the freezer compartment evaporator into the refrigerator compartment via the air duct. Cause: The air duct to the refrigerator compartment is iced over and the cold air cannot flow into the refrigerator compartment. 47 7.9 Residue in ice cube Fault When ice cube is thawed, there are small white flakes in the water. Water from water dispenser without flakes. Use the pipe cutter ( ) to make a straight cut at the end of the water hose 4.) A plastic filter is used in the water connection in the appliance from FD9501on. If the filter is positioned incorrectly, the tap may spring a leak. The photo below shows the components once they have been assembled in the correct order. 3.)
