3 WHO WE ARE : Fomat has been operating for over 40 years in the paper industry, and is continuously searching for the best technical solution to meet the needs of its customers. To achieve this goal every year we invest in research and development, and some of our products are tested and studied on our pilot plants before being launched on the market. Fomat has experienced and professional technicians and workers, who have allowed together with a cost reduction policy, to achieve optimal levels of quality and reliability of the product. With a continuous process of production optimization we are able to manage the entire production cycle, from designing to manufacturing and installation of machinery, up to an efficient after-sales service.

4 technologies FELT AND WIRE CLEANING SYSTEMS FIPS In 1986 Fomat was the first to understand that the increasing speed of the machines required a synchronization between the shower pipe handling system and the machine speed, in order to avoid possible dirty area and a shortened life of felts an wires. Today we got to the last generation of FIPS (smart series) that due to the absence of limit switches provides further reducing of maintenance costs. FAP 125 Aiming to offer products which make the working environment safer for the operator, Fomat developed the FAP to allow timing and automation of cleaning operations for shower pipes, usually installed in unhealthy places. To reach this goal Fomat developed a pneumatic system with reduced maintenance costs which does not require the passage of electric cables. ALL SHOWER PIPES (HP) are provided with Fomat ruby nozzles designed to ensure a water flow and consumption constant over time. Each pipe is designed to avoid turbulences and deflection in the middle. All the shower pipes can be equipped with brush cleaning system, which was designed to avoid turbulence effects and to ensure the perfect cleaning of the nozzles and inside walls of the pipe.

5 technologies ALL SHOWER PIPES Special applications Fomat provides the best solution for each kind of application in order to meet the customer needs. The picture shows an application on a machine with width 12m where a system to eliminate the pipe deflection was installed. FAST REMOVING is a patented system which allows to disassemble the shower while the machine is working. The fixing and sealing systems besides the discharge system, ensure reduced assembling/disassembling times with no need to stop the machine FAST REMOVING Special applications In case of large showers where the extraction of the inner pipe is difficult because of dimension and weight, an extraction system with a suitable support guide is available, which allows the operator to perform these operations independently and safely.

6 technologies SMART JET is the latest project as regards to felt cleaning. It gives the possibility to further reduce water consumption, thus allowing to intervene directly in the dirty area thanks to a special rotating head with 4 nozzles with greater cleaning action. EDGE TRIM SHOWER System designed to allow a safe and easy replacement of the nozzles. The change of paper size can be done either manually with graduated bar or automatically by means of DCS. TAILCUTTER Made of a rigid structure with reliable components, this system avoids vibrations that can lead to inaccurate cutting causing frequent breaks of the paper sheet. The cutting speed is synchronized with the machine speed, this avoids the formation of conical reels. Maintenance can be done while the machine is working.

7 technologies VAF - VACUUM CONTROL VALVE Fomat control valve was designed to maintain a constant level of vacuum in the suction boxes. When a high vacuum is requested, the valve ensures a stable and proportional control, while with low vacuum, unlike other valves, it closes completely and put in communication the suction boxes with the atmospheric pressure, eliminating any internal residual pressure. The VAF valve is equipped with Fomat positioner for compressed air saving, inside which it is possible to install the vacuum transmitter to read and regulate the valve. This valve was designed to significantly reduce costs and time for maintenance. It can be provided with a dedicated control system or in remote connection with existing systems. FAFF FRESH WATER FILTER & OTOCINCLUS CLARIFIED WATER FILTER The need to use fresh water with residues or to reduce the water consumption brought Fomat to design and produce FAFF system for fresh water and patented OTOCINCLUS system for clarified water. FAFF filter allows a degree of filtration up to 25micron and has an automatic cleaning system in backwash. The OTOCINCLUS allows to use clarified water for applications that until now saw the use of fresh water. The strength of the series OTOCINCLUS is the possibility to ensure a high degree of cleaning up to 25 micron, without the need to use anti-foaming chemical products and avoiding the risk of clogging due to a backwashing system plus a patented mechanical cleaning system.

8 technologies SMART CLEANER Fomat system was designed to distribute uniformly the chemicals on cylinders and wires of dry end by means of an atomizing nozzle, reducing the consumption of these products. The HMI (remote touch panel) for Smart Cleaner gives the possibility to determine the movement speed according to the machine speed. The control unit can be linked to all types of DCS or interface directly with Fomat dosing system. HYDRO- ELECTRIC OSCILLATOR FOR DRY END CLEANING BLADES After the great success of the oscillators for creping doctor blades, Fomat developed oscillators for the cleaning doctor blades of the drying section. The system ensures high reliability, significantly reducing installation and maintenance costs and eliminating dead time for reversal. DRY END TAIL CUTTER The system has a simple and robust structure with components suitable to work at high temperatures. Its compact design allows installation in tight spaces. The cutting speed is synchronized with the machine speed. The system is controlled by a dedicated PLC which can be interfaced with the dry end tail braker. The motor is equipped with encoder that allows to detect the right position of the cutter reducing maintenance problems. Maintenance operations can be done out of the paper size for the operator total safety.

9 technologies DUOFLOW ROTARY JOINTS FOR COOLING Basing on the plant engineering experience, Fomat designed a joint with cooling siphon for calenders and cylinders suitable for paper industry application and studied to have low maintenance costs. Rotary joints are made by a cooling water inlet, a compressed air inlet to ensure the pressure difference and a water outlet. The joint cartridge is interchangeable with the steam cartridge. The water is injected in the cylinder by means of fan nozzles mounted on the fixed siphon, which ensure the uniformity of the cooling fluid. DRY END TAIL BRAKER The system consists of a toothed blade and adjustable air jets for the passage of the tail. During the paper passage, the toothed blade makes the cut and simultaneously the air jets ensure the passage of the tail to the pope, preventing that the same goes under the machine. The system is controlled with pushbutton or interfaced with the PLC of the dry end tail cutter. Safety interlocks are provided to prevent access to the cutting blades during operation.

10 technologies DUOFLOW ROTARY JOINTS AND TURBULENCE BARS In order to get a perfect drainage of the cylinder, Fomat recommends to install fixed siphons with rotary joints supported by the machine frame. In case that a fixed anchoring structure on the machine is not available, Fomat designed a self-supporting holder able to ensure the stability of the siphon itself. Both these solutions provide high stability of the siphon, which is the base condition to maximize the steam system efficiency. After more than thirty years experience on steam systems, Fomat developed a steam joint that guarantees high reliability and requires a low level of maintenance to be performed quickly and safely. So in the nineties a series of joints was launched, equipped with an interchangeable cartridge containing all the sealing elements. The regeneration of the wear elements can be conveniently made in total safety. Tests on pilot machine and an accurate study of the suction shoe led to designing of new siphons which minimize the pressure losses and maximize the cylinder rotation effect. In order to improve the heat exchange, thus reducing the rimming effect, Fomat provides also turbulence bars for each kind of application.

15 aerothermic STEAM SYSTEM This was the first system developed in the seventies by Fomat, designed with the aim of reducing fuel consumption and thus ensuring significant energy savings. This aim is still valid and desirable. Our system is closed in order to avoid losses due to steam flash. Fomat can supply pre-assembled systems on skid, cascade system or with thermocompressor according to customer requirements and product features. Dealing with steam power plants up to rotary joints and siphons, Fomat provides also for complete systems and turn-key installations.

16 aerothermic BOILER ROOM DESIGN & TURN-KEY SUPPLY Fomat designs, builds and installs complete heating plants. The water treatment or degassing plant can be supplied pre-assembled on skid in order to reduce costs and installation time. The boiler room design will follow the careful analysis of the current and future needs of each customers.

17 automation QUALITY CONTROL SYSTEM With an increasingly demanding market, the quality control system (QCS) is a base equipment to maintain the standards of production. FOMAT offers a flexible, customizable and highly reliable system featuring low maintenance costs, which also provides the possibility to log-in and remote assistance. Fomat QCS can be equipped with sensors like basis weight, moisture, caliper, ash content and color. BASIS WEIGHT VALVE the basis weight valve is necessary to control with accuracy the paper basis weight, thus ensuring a constant profile in the machine direction. FOMAT weight valve was designed to ensure a high degree of accuracy of and over regardless of the implementation time. The main features of the valve are preventing the risk of clogging and elimination of backlash, furthermore the relationship between flow rate and valve opening is linear.

18 spare parts ELECTROPNEUMATIC POSITIONER Due to the high consumption and waste of compressed air of all the electropneumatic positioners installed in a paper mill, Fomat has developed a special and innovative product. Its main feature is the interruption of air consumption once the set point has been reached: this allows the saving of a high percentage of compressed air. STEAM/WATER QUICK CONNECTIONS Fomat manufactures quick connections for steam and water, with integrated return valve, that allows a fast and easy connection. RUBY NOZZLES Fomat supplies ruby nozzles for high pressure shower pipes and paper edge cutting. These nozzles can be installed also on systems provided by other suppliers. Fomat can manufacture nozzles made specifically according to customer requirements.
