1. OPERATION Why it is necessary to run a Degas Cycle? Whenever detergents are used for the first time in a post processing operation there is the likelihood that excess gasses will be trapped in the fluids. This is most likely to occur upon the initial filling of the chamber tank or whenever significant amounts of detergent are added to the tank during refilling. Dissolved gasses (most often air) within the detergent will alter the capabilities of the detergents in the support removal process and reduce the effectiveness of the ultrasonics. During normal operations, detergents naturally degas over time, but utilizing a Degas cycle will speed up that process and keep the CENTI at optimum efficiency. Detergents that have not been in use for 24 hours or longer will have reabsorbed some gases. In this situation, ALWAYS run a Degas cycle prior to support removal operations. To run a Degas cycle: See the previous section Degas Timer and Degas Operations. The default time for a Degas cycle is five minutes. The operator can change that time to any number between 1 and 99 minutes. Once the Degas Time is selected, press the DEGAS button ONCE to begin the cycle. At any time during the Degas cycle, the UP or DOWN buttons can be used to change the Degas cycle time. If the operator wants to STOP the Degas cycle for any reason, press the DEGAS button. 1.4 Ultrasonic Modes of Operation There are three available ultrasonic modes of operation. Figure 12. Setting the Ultrasonic Modes 1. Timed Sonics When operating in Timed Ultrasonic Mode, a timer counts down the remaining time that ultrasonics will run in the cycle. For Information about operating in Timed Ultrasonic Mode see Section Timed Ultrasonic Mode on next page. 2. Constant Sonics In Constant Ultrasonic Mode, the ultrasonics will continue until the SONIC Button (shown Figure 12. Setting the Ultrasonic Modes) is pressed or power is turned off to the CENTI. For Information about operating in Constant Ultrasonic Mode see Section Constant Ultrasonic Mode on next page. 3. Auto Sonics In Auto Ultrasonic Mode the ultrasonics begin as soon as the Set temperature is attained and will continue until the cycle timer reaches 0 minutes. For Information about operating in Auto Ultrasonic Mode see Section Auto Ultrasonic Mode on page 13. PostProcess Technologies, Inc. REV A page 11

The bottom left temperature digits and the Current Temperature icon will illuminate as shown right. 4. Stir the detergent in the tank for 15 seconds to ensure it is at a thermal uniformity. 5. After waiting two minutes the temperature can be measured to check calibration temperature. Use the ON/STANDBY button to change the actual temperature to the measured temperature. 6. Press the ON/STANDBY button to end the calibration process. 2.4 Draining the Tank Prior to draining the CENTI the unit should be powered off and the plug should be removed from the cord receptacle as shown in Figure 15. Power Cord Receptacle. Make sure the drain tube is linked to a proper storage receptacle for the used detergent. Open the drain valve by turning it counter-clockwise 90 degrees until the valve is parallel to the valve body. The unit should begin draining. Properly dispose of all detergents according to local disposal guidelines. Always wear protective nitrile gloves and eye protection when handling detergents. 2.5 Cleaning the Tank First, drain the tank following the steps outlined in Draining the Tank. Anytime the CENTI tank is emptied, operators should perform a close visual inspection of the tank to remove any contaminants or debris. To avoid scratching or damaging the tank use water and a non-abrasive cloth to wipe down the interior of the unit. Always wear protective nitrile gloves and eye protection when handling detergents. PostProcess Technologies, Inc. REV A page 15

2. GENERAL CARE AND MAINTENANCE It is recommended to check any baskets or trays that are being used during the support removal process to ensure they are free from contaminants also. Any baskets or other equipment can be cleaned using warm water and a soft cloth. CAUTION Never immerse the CENTI in water as the electronics will be damaged. ALWAYS turn the unit off prior to cleaning, filling or draining and be sure to remove the plug from the receptacle and from the power source. 2.6 Maintaining Proper Detergent Levels To remain at peak support removal efficiency, the CENTI should always have the proper level of detergents in the tank. As shown in Figure 16. Fluid Level Indicator below, there is a visual marking fluid level indicator on the inside of the tank. Figure 16. Fluid Level Indicator When parts are being removed from the CENTI after the support removal process use extreme caution to ensure that excessive amounts of detergents aren t spilled or lost unnecessarily. Sometimes when larger or bulky parts are processed, it is inevitable that fluids will be lost when the part is removed from the tank. It is important to monitor the detergent levels and refill the tank as necessary. See Section 2.2 Filling the Tank for more information. Whenever larger amounts of detergents are added to bring the levels back up to optimal levels, a Degas cycle may be necessary to remove excess gases. See Section Degas Timer and Degas Operations for more information. PostProcess Technologies, Inc. REV A page 16

2. GENERAL CARE AND MAINTENANCE 2.7 Tank Capacity Operators should always use care when loading and unloading parts. Always use a tray or basket to hold the parts being cleaned in the support removal process. There should always be at least an inch of space between the bottom of the tank and the bottom of the tray/basket holding the parts. This space is needed to allow for adequate cavitation and detergent flow into and around the parts. Never overfill the tank because when parts are added, the detergent levels rise as they are displaced by the solid parts being processed. Always remove the tray or basket carefully to avoid detergent spillage. Whenever working near the detergents or the tank, wear eye protection and nitrile gloves. If bare skin comes into contact with detergent, immediately rinse the affected skin with warm water and soap. 2.8 Covering the Tank CAUTION If a part is resting on the bottom of the tank it may not be cleaned properly and the CENTI could be damaged. It is important to keep the tank cover on the CENTI at all times. The cover allows the tank to reach and maintain the desired liquid temperature more quickly and allows the CENTI to run more efficiently. Keeping the cover on at all times will reduce the amount of detergent that is lost to evaporation and spillage. CAUTION Never place any weight on the cover as it may become damaged or mis-shapen. Avoid storing any objects on or above the CENTI as falling objects will damage the cover and may damage the CENTI. Figure 17. Tank Cover and Ventilation PostProcess Technologies, Inc. REV A page 17

3. TROUBLESHOOTING Most instances where the CENTI is not performing to expectations can be easily resolved by simple troubleshooting procedures. Below is a list of issues that may arise during post-processing operations. 3.1 The CENTI will not start Step 1) Verify that the CENTI is properly connected to power. See Section 1.1 Connecting Power to the CENTI for more information. Step 2) Press the Master Power Switch to the I or On position. Press the ON/STANDY button. If there is still no power to the CENTI, it means that the ON/STANDY button is malfunctioning or that the machine has blown a fuse. Step 3) Contact POSTPROCESS Support for further instruction or service. 3.2 The tank won t drain when the valve is open When the valve is open and the tank is not draining is an indication that the drain may be plugged with debris from the support removal process. Carefully remove all of the detergent from the tank by transferring it out with a spare container. Operators MUST wear eye protection and nitrile gloves to avoid allowing detergent to touch bare skin. Once emptied, visually check the drain area for contaminant buildup and remove if necessary. Remove drain valve assembly. Refer to Section 2.1 CENTI Drain Valve Installation for information. Clean and rinse all valve assembly parts and remove any debris. Reassemble the drain valve assembly. 3.3 The CENTI display panel is blank A blank display panel while the CENTI is still operational typically indicates that the main control board has failed and will need to be replaced. Contact PostProcess support for further information or service. 3.4 The CENTI has shut down and there is an Alarm Indicator on the display panel If the CENTI shuts down and an Alarm indicator shows up on a blank display, the CENTI has potentially reached an overheating condition. Turn the unit off completely and allow it to cool down. After 15 minutes restart the CENTI. The Alarm Bell shown left is an indicator of an abnormal operating condition. Most often it is an overheating condition. The CENTI should not be used if this icon is displayed on the screen. If after a cool down period the alarm is still present, contact POSTPROCESS Support for further instructions. 3.5 An Error Code (Err) is on the display panel Any time the CENTI has sensor components that are malfunctioning, the display panel will show an Error Code. Never attempt to operate the CENTI if an Error Code is present. Contact POSTPROCESS Support for further instruction or service. PostProcess Technologies, Inc. REV A page 18

3. TROUBLESHOOTING 3.6 The CENTI is on but the detergent is not heating up to the set temperature First verify that the target temperature has been set properly. See Section Setting the Target Temperature for verification that the process was followed. Verify that the Tank Cover is on the CENTI. If the target temperature was set properly, perform a temperature calibration to ensure the heater is working correctly. See Section 2.3 Tank Temperature Calibration for more information. If the CENTI is still not reaching the desired temperature, contact POSTPROCESS support for further information. 3.7 Where can I find the CENTI Serial Number The serial number plate can be found on the rear panel of the machine and resembles the ID plate as shown below. 4.
