MODEL: 180IP Contents: Important Information and Safety Instructions Technical Data Data Plate Controls To Start Operation: 180IP LP Gas Operation 110 Volt Operation Regulating the Temperature Troubleshooting If the Freezer is not cold enough, it may be because Some Useful Hints Cleaning Your Refrigerator Defrosting Prolonged Storage Who to Contact Important Information and Safety Instructions It is important to read through these instructions carefully before beginning to use the refrigerator. To ensure reliable refrigeration and economical operation, the refrigerator must be installed and used as described in this manual. Retain these instructions for future use. For your safety If you smell gas: Open windows and immediately evacuate all people out of the caravan, campervan, mobile home etc. Do not touch electrical wires, switches, light matches, smoke or do anything that could ignite gas. Extinguish any open flames. Close cylinder or tank supply valves. Do not turn on valves until leak has been corrected. Immediately call your gas supplier.
Warnings: This appliance must be earthed (grounded). Ensure that the refrigerator is standing level All gas-burning appliances consume air (oxygen). To avoid endangering your life, do not use this appliance in unventilated structures. Make sure there is an open window or designated ventilation opening to provide air supply. Do not obstruct the flow of combustion and ventilation air. Provide additional ventilation for any additional fuel burning appliances and additional occupants. Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapour and liquids in the vicinity of this or any other appliance. Do not spray aerosols in the vicinity of this appliance while it is operating. MODEL NUMBER NUMERO DE MODÈLE GF180IP GF180IP Overall Dimensions Height 940mm Width 830mm Depth 700mm Capacity Gross 160 Lt Net 160Lt Freezer Weight 60Kg Electrical data Input 110 V 320 W Input 12 V N/A Energy Consumption LP Gas Data Input 11 WC Input, low flame Energy Consumption g/hr Jet Marking 13 Cooling medium R717 The date plate, located on the inside of the refrigerator will register your model number, serial number, and product number.
Record these details here, for easier access if the need for servicing should arise. Model Number Serial Number Product Number Controls: 180IP (Figure 1) All letters, A E listed below, refer to figure one. The refrigerator can be run on 110 volt and LP Gas. The gas electric thermostat, [A], carries out charges between these operations. Operating Instructions for Model 180IP It is important to read through these instructions carefully before beginning to use the refrigerator. Do retain theses instructions for future reference. Ensure that the refrigerator is standing level! Use of a regulator is essential. LP Gas Operation: 1. Open the shut-off valve for the gas bottle. (Check that there is enough gas). Open any shutoff valve of the gas installation. 2. Turn the thermostat knob, [A], to the high position, No Push in and turn knob [B] to gas (3 o clock) position. 4. Keep the flame failure device knob, [B], pressed in for approximately 15 seconds. 5. Operate the ignitor, [E], until the flame lights by pressing in and then releasing the button.
6. Keep the knob, [B], pressed in for a further 15 seconds then release it. During this time the gas flame indicator, [C], needle [D] will move into the green section, designating the flame is burning. If the needle returns to its original place, repeat steps 3, 4 and 5 until the needle remains in the green section. To terminate gas operation, push in and turn knob [B] to the OFF (6 o clock) position. Note: If the piezo-electric ignitor, [E], does not spark properly, as can occur in extremely damp and humid conditions, the burner can be lit directly with a match by a second person instead of using step number 5. If strong gusty winds prevail, regularly check that the gas flame indicator needle [D] remains in the green section to ensure that the wind has not extinguished the flame. If it has, repeat steps 3, 4 and 5, or use another mode of operation. After initial installation, changing of gas cylinder, or servicing etc., the gas pipes may contain some air, which should be allowed to escape by briefly pressing on the flame failure device, [B]. This will ensure the flame lights quickly. It is essential that the 11 WC regulator be used. In the case of flashback. Turn knob [B] to off position and follow steps 3, 4, and 5 to switch on again. The flame failure device, [B], should never be depressed for periods longer than 15 seconds, as this can cause a potentially dangerous build up of unburnt gas. If the burner does not ignite, allow sufficient time for any unburnt gas to dispense, and then repeat the ignition steps. 110 Volt Operation: Turn off gas or 12 volt operation when applicable. 1. Turn the thermostat knob [A], to its coldest position, (fully clockwise), No Push in and turn knob [B] to the electric (9 o clock) position. 3. Connect the plug to mains supply Regulating the temperature Once the freezer has been switched on, it will take a few hours to become cold. When operating on LPG or 110 volt [A] turn clockwise, 1 4, for colder and anti-clockwise for warmer.
Troubleshooting If the freezer fails to work check the following points before calling service!! That the instructions for starting the freezer have been followed The freezer is level If it is possible, start the unit on any of the other connected energy sources. If the freezer fails to work on gas, check: a. That the gas bottle is not empty b. That the LP gas valves are open c. That the regulator is not faulty. If the freezer fails to work on 110 volt, check: a. That the 110 volt supply is connected to the unit b. That there are no loose connections c. That the heating element has not burned out. If the Freezer is not cold enough, it may be because 1. The ventilation of the absorption unit is inadequate; allow at least 100mm around back and sides and 160 mm above. 2. The evaporator is frosted up Refer Defrosting. 3. The temperature control is incorrect Refer Regulating the Temperature. 4. The gas pressure is incorrect, check the pressure regulator at the gas cylinder or the orifice of the burner. If the orifice is blocked, remove the orifice, clean with alcohol or other solvent and blow through with compressed air. (Never use a piece of wire or pin) 5. The circulating temperature is too high. 6. Too much food is loaded in at one time. 7. The lid or door is not properly closed or the seal is defective. 8. The baffle has not been inserted into the chimney. 9. There may be a drop in voltage supply. 10. If the flame fails to stay alight after releasing the fail-safe valve knob according to instructions, there may be two (2) faults, these being: a) The magnet in the fail-safe valve is faulty. b) The thermocouple feeler point may not be in the flame properly. 11. To rectify this, loosen the bottom nut to the feeler point and push forward until the point is over the burner, then tighten the top nut on the feeler point. Repeat the starting instructions. Refer To start operation. 12. The absorption unit is leaking. N.B: A leak can be determined if there are visible traces of yellow deposit at the point where the ammonia is escaping. If there is a leak on the evaporator inside the cabinet, a smell of ammonia will be noticeable. If a leak is detected, under NO circumstances should you try to repair it, as the unit is pressurised with hydrogen and may explode if welding is attempted on the leak. Call a qualified technician.
Some Useful Hints: Make sure that: Defrosting is carried out periodically The freezer is clean and dry with the door open when it is not to be used for some time Liquids or items with strong odors are well packaged The ventilation of the absorption unit is not obstructed You do not touch the absorption unit while it is in operation as parts of it will be extremely hot You check the condition of the gas supply tube regularly: End fittings in good condition Overall appearance etc. You switch on the freezer for approximately 12 hours prior to loading it With foodstuffs and pre-frozen goods are loaded into the freezer compartment You never put bottles or cans of fizzy drinks in the frozen food storage compartment as they may burst when freezing. Also, do not give children ice-lollies straight from the compartment as they could cause frost burns Hot liquids and food are not introduced into the freezer, allow to cool first You are aware that the temperature inside the freezer can vary according to the circulating temperature, the location of the freezer, the frequency with which the door is opened, and the volume and concentration of products stored in it You avoid packing products in too tightly air must be able to circulate freely Cleaning Your Refrigerator The inside of the freezer should be cleaned regularly to keep it fresh and hygienic. Clean your freezer using ½ a litre of warm water and a little bicarbonate of soda. Soak a soft cloth in the solution, wring it out and use it to clean out the interior of the freezer and its fittings. Do not use wax polish, scouring powder, strong scented products or household cleaners and detergents to clean the interior of the refrigerator as they may damage the surface and leave a strong odour. The door seal, should only be cleaned with soap and water and then thoroughly dried. The exterior of the refrigerator (except the door seal) should be wiped clean regularly using a damp cloth and a small quantity of detergent. The absorption unit behind the refrigerator should be cleaned with a brush from time to time, but make sure that the freezer is switched off when doing this. Defrosting Frost will gradually accumulate on the freezer surface. It must not be allowed to grow thick as it acts as an insulator and adversely affects the freezers performance. Check the formation of frost regularly and when it gets around 5mm thick, defrost the refrigerator. To defrost the freezer, turn it off and remove all food items, to a cool area.
Warning: Normally the temperature of items would rise unduly during defrosting and so, they should be consumed within 24 hours or discarded. Do not try to accelerate defrosting by using any kind of heating appliance Once defrosting is finished, thoroughly clean the interior. Prolonged Storage Disconnect all electrical connections and the gas supply. Empty the freezer. Defrost and clean it thoroughly as described earlier. Leave the door partially open to exclude any odours and moulds forming. Important: Before using the freezer again, ensure that no foreign bodies are present in the chimney or the burner (dust, insect, nests, etc.) Warning: The needle valve screw used for admitting the ammonia / hydrogen filling charge to an absorption unit is fitted to the unit s reservoir. It is a strictly applied provision of the guarantee extended on the unit to the customer, that any interference with the filling valve screw will automatically void the guarantee. The absorption unit must not be opened, since it contains corroding chemicals under high pressure.
