Consideration mst be given to both airflow across the and inlet air temperatre. 1. To calclate the kilowatts per sq. ft. of dct area, divide the total kilowatts reqired by the dct area. Example: Dct Size = 2ft. x 3ft. Total Kilowatts = = kw / Sq. Ft. 2. If the air handler eqipment is expressed in FPM, then a direct cross reference can be made by comparing the temperatre of the air (as it enters the dct ) to the kw rating on the chart of rated velocity (refer to chart at right). a. Draw a line horizontally from the kilowatt per sq. ft. reqired to the inlet air temperatre being sed. b. From this point of intersection on the inlet air crve, draw a line down vertically to establish the air velocity. c. The velocity shold never be lower than the velocity as determined from the chart. In cases where this is not tre, the velocity mst be increased or the kw reqired mst be redced. 3. In cases where the air handling eqipment is expressed in CFM, then convert to FPM by dividing the CFM by the dct area.
