3 2 INTRODUCTION Thank you for selecting this product from the large range of products manufactured in Australia by Thermoline Scientific. The materials incorporated in this design have been carefully selected for their durability, technical performance, and practicability, the resultant product is one we are proud of. THE MANUAL Please familiarise yourself with the information contained in this manual before using the equipment. Ensure that the manual is kept safe but accessible for current and future operators to refer to. UNPACKING Remove the equipment from the packing material, check that it is complete. Assemble the components and inspect for damage. Retain the packaging materials until the equipment has been thoroughly tested. Notify the detail of any damage without delay to your supplier, or Thermoline Scientific. LOCATION Place the equipment in a well-ventilated area on a firm surface. Confirm that the power supply is suitable for this equipment. Refer to the equipment rating plate for details. To control temperature effectively, the equipment should be located in a stable ambient. WARNING: Ensure that the electrical outlet is earthed and is of the correct voltage and is capable of carrying the stated current load. INTENDED USE This equipment is used to provide an accurate temperature controlled environment. Depending on the model selected either a gentle gravity convection for low capacity drying and conditioning of samples or fan forced air circulation for increased performance and the dehydrating models for high capacity drying of very wet samples.

4 3 CAUTION: The range of equipment described as Laboratory Ovens but not including Dehydrating Ovens are not to be used in conjunction with large quantities of water. The introduction of water and the resultant vapour could result in premature component failure. WARNING: Do not use flammable solvents or combustible materials as fire or explosion may occur. This equipment uses components which may be a source of ignition. FUNCTION To provide an accurate controlled temperature environment range ambient +10 C to +200 C. All models except TOH-152G which has an extended range to 300 C. PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION The range of Laboratory and Dehydrating ovens are designed to meet many requirements. Model TO-152F, TO-152G and TOH-152G are ideally suited for Laboratory Bench or Floor, where as the Model TD-150F and TO-235F, TD-330F, TD-500F are all floor standing. All models feature heavy duty insulation to minimise heat loss, stainless steel interior, chrome plated open wire shelves, either (G) Gravity Convection or (F) Fan Forced air movement. The door is fitted with a positive lever action door latch and closes on a silicon gasket. Exterior is PVC Coated Steel. Only the (D) Dehydrating ovens are suitable for drying very wet materials due to their high capacity ventilation and sealed interior. The desired operating temperature is set at the temperature controller. A signal from the temperature sensor is monitored at the controller. The resultant calculated pulsed output is directed to a solid state relay which switches power to the heating element. The warmed air moves gently throughout the oven, the amount of energy to maintain the set temperature is determined by the sensor. PERFORMANCE The operating range for this equipment is +10 C to +200 C (options to 300 C) MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE For this product is 200 C (options to 300 C Model Dependant). C-TICK The equipment referred to here complies with requirement of AS/NZS 1044:1995 electromagnetic interference (EMI).

5 4 INSTALLATION (Refer to Unpacking Page 2) Place the equipment in a well-ventilated area, on a firm level surface and ensure that a suitable power supply is available. Allow sufficient room for the door to open fully. WARNING: Ensure that the electrical outlet is earthed and is of the correct voltage and is capable of carrying the equipment stated current load (AMPS). THE STANDARD Range of ovens are not suitable for stacking. MAINTENANCE The Thermoline Scientific range of Laboratory & Dehydrating Ovens requires no routine maintenance other than normal levels of cleanliness. The external surface PVC coated steel and the inner surface stainless steel may be wiped clean using a damp, soft cloth. CARING FOR STAINLESS STEEL Stainless steel is under most conditions extremely resistant to corrosion. This is in part due to the addition of chromium and nickel to the steel and the formation of a durable chromium oxide at the surface during the manufacturing process. There are several chemicals which will attack the surface of stainless steel, plus the lack of oxygen at the surface will cause rusting, corrosion and pitting. Note: Deionised water is particularly corrosive, to minimise, maintain a Neutral ph (7-9). Always have in place a program of regular cleaning using a soft damp cloth with a mild solution of soap and water and allow to dry. MAIN SWITCH This is a combination power switch and circuit breaker, when pressed this switch allows power to be supplied to the controls. Incorporated in the face of the switch is a MAINS ON indicating light, except the TD-500F.

6 5 CAUTION: The equipment is fitted with a combination circuit breaker, mains switch. If the circuit breaker continues to trip, it may indicate an electrical fault exists. Switch Off the power and consult a qualified technician. Over Temp Light This red light should only be illuminated when high temperature occurs, ie, if the operating temperature is higher than that set on the safety thermostat. TEMPERATURE CONTROLLER / SENSOR This is a West 6100 PID control with digital temperature indication of both the set value and the operating value to 1 C. Engineering parameters are configured to provide stable temperature control with the minimum over shoot and quick recovery times. Sensor type is a K Type Thermocouple. Maximum recommended temperature is 200 C (Option to 300 C/Product dependant). OPERATING MAINS SWITCH VALUE (CIRCUIT BREAKER) SET VALUE (SP) OVER TEMP. LIGHT FUNCTION KEY DOWN UP OVER TEMPERATURE THERMOSTAT (At Left Side) This is adjusted by the operator to maintain additional protection should an over heating condition occur. ELECTRICAL - POWER LEAD A removable mains power lead with a three pin plug and right angle female IEC socket is supplied for connection between the male IEC socket located at the oven (top left side) and a ten (10) Amp General Purpose Outlet (G.P.O.) Except Model TD-500F 15Amp GPO. DURATION TIMER (Optional) This is an Omron solid state analogue type timer. Rotate the time range screw to the desired value - 1.2, 3, 12 and 30. Rotate the units screw to select either seconds, minutes, hours, and 10x hours to a maximum of 300 Hours. Rotate the setting dial to the desired time. Press the timer reset button to commence the timed cycle. At the completion of the cycle, the cycle end light will be illuminated.

7 6 CYCLE END LIGHT This light is illuminated when the time set at the duration has expired. TIMER RESET SWITCH When pressed, this switch will reset the duration timer to the start of its set period. OPERATION WARNING: 1. To avoid injury do not use flammable solvents in this cabinet, as fire or explosion may result. This cabinet contains components that may ignite such materials. WARNING: 2. Do not introduce water into the Laboratory Ovens as the excessive vapour may result in premature component failure. This does not apply to the Dehydrating Ovens. OPERATING THE OVEN 1) Ensure that the oven is located as previously described, refer to the index, LOCATION, Page 2. 2) Position the mains switch to the ON position (reset) and immediately the controller will go through a short initiation period, the two displays will then indicate the operating value at the top and the set value at the lower display. 3) The temperature controller is a West 6100 microprocessor based instrument which has been factory configured for range, sensor type, and engineering parameters for optimum control. Limited access to the control is available to the operator, refer to the index, CALIBRATION. MAINS SWITCH (CIRCUIT BREAKER) OPERATING VALUE SET VALUE (SP) FUNCTION KEY OVER TEMP. LIGHT DOWN UP

8 7 4) CHANGING THE SET VALUE (WEST 6100 CONTROL) STEP 1: TO CHANGE THE SET VALUE, FIRST PRESS THE FUNCTION KEY. SP WILL APPEAR ON THE LOWER DISPLAY STEP 2: USE THE UP OR DOWN S TO INCREASE OR DECREASE THE DESIRED SET VALUE. STEP 3: PRESS THE SCROLL KEY. THE DISPLAY WILL SHOW THE OFFSET VALUE. DO NOT CHANGE. STEP 3:PRESS THE SCROLL KEY AGAIN TO RETURN TO THE ORIGINAL SCREEN. THE SET VALUE WILL HAVE CHANGED TO THE NEW VALUE. THE INSTRUMENT WILL THEN INCREASE OR DECREASE THE OUTPUT TO ALTER THE OPERATING VALUE.

9 8 5) Setting the Over Temperature Thermostat a) Once the temperature has stabilised at the set value, the over temperature thermostat can be adjusted. b) Turn the over temperature thermostat anticlockwise until the red light (front panel) is illuminated. c) Now slowly turn the over temperature thermostat clockwise until the light (just) goes out. The over temperature thermostat is now set at a temperature just above the set oven temperature to prevent accidental overheating. 6) Adjust the ventilation at the top of the oven to suit the application. Fully open for drying and closed for the best temperature control. 7) Setting the Optional Timer. To adjust the timer: a) To set the units (seconds, minutes, hours) turn the selector at the bottom right hand corner of the timer face using a small screwdriver. b) To set the multiplying factor turn the selector at the bottom left hand corner of the timer face. c) Set the duration period via the pointer knob. 8) At the completion of the set time, the cycle end light will be illuminated. The heating will cease but the circulating fan will continue to run. 9) To restart the timer, press the timer reset switch and immediately the set period will commence. 10) Should the timer not be required then setting duration time to the maximum of 300Hrs will avoid short term interruption. SENSOR CORRECTION This control function corrects the input value received from the sensor. Often a sensor cannot be positioned where control is required. Due to the remote location of the sensor the measuring value may deviate from the value measured at the mid point of the working volume. In such cases a correction value is entered at the controller shifting the input value of the sensor. This correction value is first entered when the equipment is under test at the factory. Further small adjustments can be made by the operator to compensate for small system calibration errors. MEASURING EQUIPMENT Ensure that the equipment used to verify the temperature at the desired location is appropriate for the conditions, and it has a current certificate of calibration to a traceable source issued by a registered organisation.

10 9 ADJUSTING THE CALIBRATION OFFSET OPERATING VALUE SET VALUE (SP) FUNCTION KEY DOWN UP STEP 1: TO CHANGE THE SET VALUE, FIRST PRESS THE SCROLL KEY. SP WILL APPEAR ON THE LOWER DISPLAY. DO NOT CHANGE. STEP 2: PRESS THE SCROLL KEY AGAIN TO ADJUST THE OFFSET VALUE. MAKE ANY CALIBRATION ADJUSTMENTS HERE BY PRESSING THE UP OR DOWN KEYS. SEE PARAGRAPH SENSOR CORRECTION. STEP 3: PRESS THE SCROLL KEY AGAIN TO RETURN TO THE ORIGINAL SCREEN. THE OFFSET VALUE WILL HAVE CHANGED TO THE NEW VALUE. THE INSTRUMENT WILL THEN INCREASE OR DECREASE THE OUTPUT TO ALTER THE OPERATING VALUE.
