These are the matters with possibilities leading to injury or material damage due to erroneous handling including probabilities leading to serious consequences in some cases. Avoid exposure of your body directly to the cold air for a long time, or avoid excessive exposure of your body to the cold air. Otherwise, your physical condition may be deteriorated and/or your health may be ruined. WARNING Precaution for operation Do not insert your finger, a stick, etc., into the air inlet, outlet, and fan blades. A fan in high-speed running may result in injury. Avoid disassembly, remodeling, and repair. Otherwise, it may result in a water leakage, electric shock, and fire. Contact your DAIKIN dealer. Never get in contact with fire, if the refrigerant should ever leak. The refrigerant used for the air conditioners is safe. Though the refrigerant does not leak under the normal condition, if it should ever leak into the room and get in contact with fire such as heaters and hot plates, it would cause generation of toxic gas. After putting out fire of a burner or heater, and ventilating the air of the room, contact your DAIKIN dealer. When the refrigerant leak is repaired, operate the unit after confirminig the serviceman that the leaked places are completely repaired. Do not use any fuse with improper capacity. The use of a piece of wire and whatnot may result in a failure and fire. When the air conditioner is in abnormal conditions (smell of something burning, etc.), unplug the power cord from the outlet, and contact the dealer where you purchased the air conditioner. Continued operation under such circumstances may result in a failure, electric shock, and fire. Consult the dealer if the air conditioner submerges owing to a natural disaster, such as a flood or typhoon. Do not operate the air conditioner in that case, or otherwise a malfunction, electric shock, or fire may result. 1

Pre-operation start taking advantage of timer operation is recommendable. 9 REGARDING OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE AND HEATING CAPACITY The heating capacity of the air conditioner declines as the outside air temperature falls. In such a case, use the air conditioner in combination with other heating systems. Precautions taken when using this unit jointly with a burning appliance When this unit is used jointly with other burning appliances, meticulous and scrupulous ventilation is required for this purpose. Unsatisfactory ventilation may result in oxygen deficiency. Avoid using a burning appliance where it is exposed to direct indoor unit air; otherwise such direct air may cause incomplete combustion of the burning appliance. A warm air circulating system is employed, and therefore it takes some time until the entire room is warmed up after the start of operation. The indoor fan is operating automatically in the gentle air mode before the air conditioner internal temperature is increased to some extent. When the warm air stays under the ceiling and your feet are cold, we recommend that you use a circulator (a fan to circulate the air inside the room). For details, consult your dealer.

16 SIMULTANEOUS OPERATION OF SEVERAL INDOOR UNITS Group control system One remote controller controls up to 2 indoor units. All indoor units are equally set. Two remote controller control system Two remote controllers control one indoor unit (In case of group control system, one group of indoor units) The unit is individually operated. NOTES Regarding combinations or setting of group control and two-remote controller operation, be sure to check with your dealer. Contact your Daikin dealer in case of changing the combination or setting of group control and two remote controller control systems. HOW TO USE AT BEST CONDITION The machine should not be exposed to direct sunlight during cooling operation. Hang a curtain or a window shade on the window. Carry out frequent cleaning of the airfilter. If you continue to use the unit with dirty air-filter, deterioration of capacity or trouble may be invited. Refer to this operation manual together with the operation manual attached to the indoor unit. Do not leave the door or window open. Opearational efficiency becomes poor. Keep a TV, radio, personal computer, etc. 1.5 m or more apart from the indoor unit and remote controller. Otherwise the screen may flutter or flicker, and noises may intrude into the unit. Do not put anything nearby the air outlet and air inlet. Otherwise the capacity may deteriorate or the operation may stop. Use the air direction control cleverly. Cold air will stay in the lower part, while warm air will stay in the upper part. With the air direction control made level in the cooling & dry mode and turned downward in the heating mode, make arrangements so that your body is not exposed to such air. Be sure that the room is not made too cool and too warm. Otherwise electricity is to be wasted. Set the air conditioner to 26 to 28 C in the cooling mode. Set the air conditioner to 18 to 23 C in the heating mode. Use the timer operation mode effectively. It takes some time for the room temperature to reach the set temperature. By taking advantage of this operation with the timer, start air conditioning operation in advance. 15

17 HOW TO MAINTAIN Do not wash the outdoor unit, indoor unit, booster unit and inverter box, using water. Electric shocks and fire may result. During air filter cleaning, exercise due care to the scaffolding. Since this work is to be conducted in an elevated place, take special care in case where the scaffolding is unstable. Since the system is such that the air conditioning and refrigerating functions are assembled into one unit, the fan may turn even if the operation is being suspended with the remote controller during heating operation. When detaching the suction grille for air filter cleaning, etc., be sure to do this according to the procedure described below. ➀Set the remote controller to the fan mode or cooling mode, and stop operation with the remote controller. ➁Turn the indoor unit (air conditioner) power switch OFF. ➂According to the Indoor Unit Instruction Manual, start cleaning. Stop in the fan mode & cooling modes CAUTION To clean the air conditioner, stop operation, and unplug the power cord from the outlet. Otherwise, an elctric shock and injury may result. ➀Operation stop ➁Turn the power OFF. ➂Open the grille after fan stop. In the case of an automatic (up/down) grille, it is not necessary to turn the power switch OFF since the grille comes down automatically, but it should be noted that there are cases of the fan turning by inertia. ( ) Fin Corrosion Prevention & Cleaning or Scrubbing The fin will corrode and scales will adhere, depending on the peripheral environment. You are, therefore, requested to ask the dealer to take proper action; for example, periodical fin cleaning. Maintenance 16

18 WHEN SOMETHING IS WRONG The following symptoms do not indicate air conditioner malfunction 17 The system does not operate. The unit is stopping, but warm air comes out. During operation stop, the indoor fan may rotate. The unit stops operation from time to time. Although FAN only operation is performed, cooling/heating operation cannot be started. The air flow rate is not as preset. The air direction is not as preset. White mist comes out of a unit. Symptoms The system does not restart immediately after the ON/OFF button is pressed. The system does not restart immediately when TEMPERATURE SETTING button is returned to the former position after pushing the button. The system does not start when the display shows (UNDER CENTRALIZED CONTROL) and it flashes for few seconds after pressing an operation button. The system does not start immediately after the power supply is turned on. During heating stop, the fan rotates, and warm air is felt. The fan rotates even when the operation is stopped with the remote controller. With U4 U5 displayed on the remote controller, the unit stops, but it resumes operation in a few minutes. Immediately after turning the power on. Even when the fan speed control button is depressed, the gentle air mode operation is maintained, and the air flow rate remains unchanged. The air direction differs from that displayed on the remote controller. No blade swinging is possible. <Indoor unit> When humidity is high during cooling operation (In oily or dusty places) <Indoor unit> Immediately after cooling operation stop when the room temperature and humidity are low Causes If the OPERATION lamp lights, the system is in normal condition. It does not restart immediately because a safety device operates to prevent overload of the system. After 5 minutes, the system will turn on again automatically. This is because the system is under centralized control. Flashes on the display indicates that the system cannot be controlled by the remote controller. Wait two minutes until the micro computer is prepared for operation. Since this system is such that it is operated with the air conditioning and refrigerating functions assembled into one body, a small amount of refrigerant is flowing into the air conditioner when the showcase is in operation. This is because oil and refrigerant are prevented from staying inside the air conditioner when the showcase is being operated since this system is such that it is operated with both air conditioning and refrigerating functions assembled into one body. Since electric noises produced from other equipment than the air conditioner interrupt communication between the units, the unit stops operation. If these electric noises subside, operation is restarted automatically. The micro computer is preparing for starting operation. Wait about 10 minutes. When the room temperature has reached the set temperature during heating, the indoor unit (air conditioner) enters the gentle air operation state. This is because provision is made not to expose the human body to direct cold air. Also, even if the fan speed mode is selected when other indoor units (air conditioner) are performing heating operation, gentle air operation is to be carried out. This is because the air direction is controlled automatically. see page 12 If the inside of an indoor unit is extremely contaminated, the temperature distribution inside a room becomes uneven. This is caused by the fact that hot gas (refrigerant) flows into the indoor unit and it generates steam.

19 White mist comes out of a unit. Noise of air Conditioners Symptoms <Indoor unit, Outdoor unit (Air conditioners)> When the system is changed over to HEATING OPERATION after DEFROST OPERATION. <Indoor unit (Air conditioner)> The noise Zeeen which is generated immediately after the power supply is turned on. <Indoor unit/outdoor unit, Booster unit> A continuous flow Shuh sound is heard when the systems is in COOLING or DEFROST OPERATION. <Indoor unit, Outdoor unit, Booster unit> A Shuh sound which is heard at the start or immediately after the stop of operation or which is heard at the start or immediately after the stop of DEFROST OPERATION. <Indoor unit (Air conditioner)> A continuous low Shah sound is heard when the system is in COOLING OPERATION or at a stop. <Indoor unit (Air conditioner)> A Pishi-pishi squeaking sound is heard when the system is in HEATING OPERATION or after the stop of operation. <Indoor unit> Faint sound produced while the unit is stopping, such as Saa and Choro-choro Causes Moisture generated by DEFROST OPERATION becomes steam and exists. This is a sound generated when the electronic expansion valve ( 2) of the indoor unit (Air conditioner) is working. The sound will be reduced in about a minute. This is a sound generated when the gas (refrigerant) is being flowed into each indoor unit and outdoor booster unit. This is the noise of refrigerant caused by flow stop and flow change. The noise is heard when the drain outlet device is in operation. Expansion and contraction of plastic parts caused by temperature change makes this noise. Since this system is such that several units are operated, noises are generated when other indoor units are in operation. This sound is for preventing oil and refrigerant from getting stagnant. Dust from the units. The units give off odors. No outdoor fan turns. The liquid crystal of the remote controller shows. The compressor of the outdoor unit does not stop. No favorable cooling is achieved. <Outdoor and Booster unit> The tone of the operation noise changes. Dust may blow out from the unit after starting operation from long resting time. During operation. During operation, there arises temporary stoppage. It happens immediately after the main power supply switch is turned on. When the unit has been stopped after heating operation for a short time. The unit is in microcomputer-controlled dry operation. This is because the compressor changes the frequency. Dust absorbed by the indoor unit blows out. This is because the smell of outdoor unit or cigarettes odor stuck to inner part of the indoor unit is being blown out. ( 1) This is because the fan revolution speed is controlled in order to place the product operation in the optimum state. This shows that the remote controller is in normal condition. It appears for about one minute at longest. This is for preventing the oil or refrigerant from staying. It stops in about 5 to 10 minutes. Microcomputer-controlled dry operation is carried out to perform operation such that the room temperature is not decreased as much as possible. see page 11 Trouble shooting 1. Cleaning of the inner part of the indoor unit is necessary. As special technique is required for such cleaning, please consult with your dealer. 2. This is a valve to regulate the flow rate of gas (refrigerant) flowing in the indoor unit (air conditioner). 18

20 If the system does not properly operate except for the above mentioned case, and none of the above mentioned malfunctions is evident, investigate the system according to the following procedures. Symptoms Causes Remedy If the system does not operate at all. Check if the fuse has blown. Check to see if no breaker is OFF. Cut off the power. Turn the power ON when the breaker handle is set at OFF position. In case where the breaker handle is set at TRIP, do not turn the power switch ON. (Contact the dealer.) Handle ON TRIP Circuit breaker OFF If the system stops operating after operating the system. The system operates but it does not sufficiently cool or heat. Remove the enclosure. see page 10 see page 10 see page 12 Shut doors or windows to prevent wind from coming in. Use curtains or blinds. 19

21 Symptoms Causes Remedy Cooling efficiency is low. Unit cooler & ( cabinet ) Check to see if the indoor unit (unit cooler & showcase) is not covered with a heavy frost. Check to see if there are not too many products. Check to see if cold air in the indoor unit (unit cooler & showcase) is being circulated favorably. Check to see if no heat exchanger of outdoor unit becomes dusty. Defrost the unit manually or reduce the defrosting cycle. Reduce the number of products. Change the product layout. Remove dust with a brush or cleaner, etc. without using water or ask the dealer for this cleaning. Water leaks from the booster unit. Check to see if the temperature of indoor unit (unit cooler & showcase) is not set to too high a level. Check to see if no high-temperature products are contained. Check to see if the drain pipe is not clogged. Check to see if the drain pipe inclination is correct. Set the temperature correctly. Always store the products after cooling them down to the low temperature once. Clean the drain pipe. For this cleaning, ( ask the dealer. ) Set the drain pipe to the downward pitch. (Contact the dealer.) After checking each item described above, contact the dealer without repairing any defectives by yourself when your product is still out of order. At this time, let us know the symptom of malfunctioning and model name. (See the machine nameplate given on page 5.) After contacting the dealer, do not open the showcase door. Also, when product decay caused by temperature rise is predicted, transfer the product to another warehouse or use dry ice or the like to prevent the temperature from increasing. Trouble shooting 20

Maintenance check If the integrated system for refrigerators, freezers and air conditioning is used in several seasons, the interior may be contaminated, downgrading the performance. Since professional techniques are required for this disassembly and internal cleaning or washing, concluding the maintenance check contract (chargeable) is recommendable apart from normal maintenance. For details, contact your dealer where purchased. Also, it should be noted that any malfunction or defect attributable to illegal disassembly and internal cleaning or the like that was conducted by other than the subcontractor designated by our company may be out of warranty. Transfer or re-location and disposal When the integrated system for refrigerators, freezers and air conditioning is moved re-located due to a change of abode or the like, professional techniques are required for such operations; you are, therefore, requested to contact the local sales shop where purchased. In case where the integrated system for refrigerators, freezers and air conditioning is disposed of, contact the dealer where purchased since the refrigerant is mandatory for recovery, transportation and destruction, based on Fluorocarbon Recovery & Destruction Law. If you have any unclear point or question: For after-sales service, contact the dealer where purchased. Secondary Warranty We are not in a position to give any secondary guarantee for problems attributable to product accidents, such as cooled articles and sales guarantee. In case where there is a fear of secondary disasters, carry out periodical temperature control and also, after contacting the dealer where purchased, provide an alarm system and auxiliary equipment or the like. Furthermore, you are requested to conclude a non-life insurance contract in advance. Trouble shooting 24
