1 F67 RIVA, F67 RIVA PEDESTAL, F67 RIVA BENCH Conventional & Balanced Flue Convector Fire Instructions for Use, Installation and Servicing For use in GB, IE (Great Britain and Eire) IMPORTANT THE OUTER CASING, FRONT AND GLASS PANEL BECOME EXTREMELY HOT DURING OPERATION AND WILL RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY AND BURNS IF TOUCHED. IT IS THEREFORE RECOMMENDED THAT A FIREGUARD COMPLYING WITH BS 8423:2002 IS USED IN THE PRESENCE OF YOUNG CHILDREN, THE ELDERLY OR INFIRM. This product contains a Heat resistant glass panel. This panel should be checked during Installation and at each servicing interval. If any damage is observed on the front face of the glass panel (scratches, scores, cracks or other surface defects), the glass panel must be replaced and the appliance must not be used until a replacement is installed. Under no circumstances should the appliance be used if any damage is observed, the glass panel is removed or broken. This appliance is guaranteed for 2 years (subject to the conditions on page 3 of this Instruction manual). The second year of the guarantee will only be valid if the annual service recommended in this Instruction manual has been completed by a GasSafe registered engineer, and a copy of the service report is available for inspection by a Gazco engineer. These Instructions must be left with the appliance for future reference and for consultation when servicing the appliance. Please make the customer aware of the correct operation of the appliance before leaving these instructions with them. 4 USER INSTRUCTIONS 1. general In the event of a gas escape or if you can smell gas, please take the following steps: Immediately turn off the gas supply at the meter/ emergency control valve Extinguish all sources of ignition Do not smoke Do not operate any electrical light or power switches (On or Off) Ventilate the building(s) by opening doors and windows Ensure access to the premises can be made Please report the incident immediately to the National Gas Emergency Service Call Centre on (England, Scotland and Wales) (N. Ireland) or in the case of LPG, the gas supplier whose details can be found on the bulk storage vessel or cylinder. The gas supply must not be used until remedial action has been taken to correct the defect and the installation has been recommissioned by a competent person. 1.1 Installation and servicing must only be carried out by a competent person whose name appears on the Gas Safe register. To ensure the engineer is registered with Gas Safe they should possess an ID Card carrying the following logo: 1.10 This product is guaranteed for 2 years from the date of installation, as set out in the terms and conditions of sale between Gazco and your local Gazco dealer. Please consult with your local Gazco dealer if you have any questions. In all correspondence always quote the Model Number and Serial Number. 2A. operating the appliance IMPORTANT - THE CONTROL SYSTEM HAS BEEN PROGRAMMED TO OPERATE ON CHANNEL 'A'. IN SOME INSTANCES MULTIPLE HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES MAY HAVE ALSO BEEN SET TO OPERATE ON THE SAME CHANNEL. ALTHOUGH THIS HAS NO EFFECT ON THE SAFETY OF THE SYSTEM YOU MAY ENCOUNTER AN EXCESSIVE DELAY BETWEEN COMMANDS. IF THIS OCCURS PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS, COMMISSIONING, SECTION 3 TO CHANGE THE CHANNEL. The remote control handset has been factory set to only communicate with the appliance it is supplied with. The appliance will not respond to any other remote control, even one from an identical appliance. Note: In the event of a replacement handset being acquired, pairing of the handset with the appliance will need to be carried out. Please refer to Commissioning, Section 2, Pairing Handset on page 22. The appliance can be operated in two ways: Using the remote control handset. Using the touch pad control on the appliance. 1.2 In all correspondence, please quote the appliance type and serial number, which can be found on the data badge located on a plate attached to the lower slotted trim. 1.3 Do not place curtains above the appliance: You must have 300mm (1 ) clearance between the appliance and any curtains at either side. 1.4 No furnishings or other objects should be placed within 1 metre of the front of the appliance. 1.5 If any cracks appear in the glass panel do not use the appliance until the panel has been replaced. 1.6 In the unlikely event the appliance is receiving interference from other electronic devices, the handset/control box can be reprogrammed. Please consult your dealer or installer if you think this may be the case. 1.7 If, for any reason, the flue has to be removed from the appliance, the seals must be replaced in the inner spigot. 1.8 Do not obstruct the flue terminal in any way, i.e. by planting flowers, trees shrubs etc in the near vicinity, or by leaning objects up against the terminal guard. 1.9 Do not use a garden sprinkler or hose near the terminal. 1 Up Button The appliance has four flame settings which can be controlled manually or automatically via temperature sensing: 1. High (Pilot lit and main burner lit at the highest flame setting). 2. Med (Pilot lit and main burner lit at the medium flame setting). 3. Low (Pilot lit and main burner lit at the minimum flame setting). 4. Standby (Pilot only). Down Button On/Off Button AR2516a 4

5 USER INSTRUCTIONS 2.1 To light the appliance using the remote handset press the On/Off ( ) button followed directly by the OK button. The appliance will emit a beep to confirm the order has been received and the LED on the handset will briefly illuminate. After the start up cycle has completed the appliance will light on the high flame setting (this can take up to 20 seconds). To decrease the flame height: 2 2B. OPERATING THE APPLIANCE TOUCH PAD CONTROL The touch pad control is located at the base of the front of the appliance (see Diagram 2). Conventional Flue Balanced Flue 2.2 From the high flame setting press the DOWN ( ) button once to lower the flame to the medium setting. Each time a command from the handset is received by the appliance a beep will be emitted and the LED on the handset will briefly illuminate. NOTE: In normal operating mode the LED on the remote control will flash approximately every 4 seconds to show that it is in communication with the appliance. After each command has been accepted the LED will cease flashing until the command has been carried out. Wait until the LED resumes flashing before giving another command. 2.3 From the medium flame setting press the DOWN ( ) button once to lower the flame to the low setting. 2.4 From the low flame setting press the DOWN ( ) button once to put the appliance in Standby mode (Pilot only). To increase the flame height: 2.5 To light the appliance when it is in Standby mode press the UP ( ) button once. The appliance will light on the high flame setting. 2.6 From the low setting press the UP ( ) button once to increase the flame setting to medium. 2.7 From the medium setting press the UP ( ) button once to increase the flame setting to high. BATTERIES 2.8 The remote handset contains 2 x AA 1.5v alkaline batteries. Replace exhausted batteries like for like (use high quality batteries, Duracell or similar). DO NOT USE RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES. 2.9 Communication between the handset and the appliance may take up to 2 mins after batteries have been replaced If communication is not regained after this time the control unit and the handset may need pairing. Please refer to Commissioning, Section 2, Pairing Handset on page To light the appliance press the On/Off button once. A second beep and flash of the touch pad LED will confirm the command has been carried out. To decrease the flame height: 2.9 From the high flame setting press the DOWN ( ) button once to lower the flame to the medium setting. Each time a command from the touch pad is received by the appliance a beep will be emitted and the LED on the touch pad will briefly illuminate. A second beep and flash of the touch pad LED will confirm the command has been carried out. Wait for this confirmation before giving another command From the medium flame setting press the DOWN ( ) button once to lower the flame to the low setting From the low flame setting press the DOWN ( ) button once to put the appliance in Standby mode (Pilot only). To increase the flame height: 2.12 To light the appliance when it is in Standby mode press the UP ( ) button once. The appliance will light on the high flame setting From the low setting press the UP ( ) button once to increase the flame setting to medium From the medium setting press the UP ( ) button once to increase the flame setting to high. 5

6 USER INSTRUCTIONS YELLOW FLAMES WILL APPEAR WHEN THE FIRE HAS GAINED SUFFICIENT HEAT - TYPICALLY 10 TO 20 MINUTES. TOUCH PAD CONTROL NOT WORKING If the appliance is not operating with the touch pad control: 4.2 The battery pack contains 3 x C batteries. Replace exhausted batteries like for like (use high quality batteries, Duracell or similar). DO NOT USE RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES Replace the batteries in the battery pack following Section If the appliance still fails to operate consult your installer or Gazco dealer. 3. turning the APPLIANCE off REMOTE CONTROL 3.1 To turn the appliance off press the On/Off ( ) button once. TOUCH PAD CONTROL 3.2 To turn the appliance off press the On/Off button once. IF THE FIRE IS EXTINGUISHED OR GOES OUT IN USE, WAIT 3 MINUTES BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO RELIGHT IT. THE CONTROL VALVE HAS AN INTERLOCK DEVICE AND THEREFORE CANNOT BE LIT UNTIL THE 3 MINUTES HAVE ELAPSED. 4. CHANGING APPLIANCE BATTERIES 5. CLEANING THE APPLIANCE ENSURE THE APPLIANCE IS COLD BEFORE PROCEEDING 5.1 Removing Frame 5 AR1488a Remove the frame from the appliance by removing the 2 concealed screws behind the lower access door (see Diagram 5). Pull the frame forward at the bottom then lift clear of the top fixing lugs. 4.1 The battery pack is located in the base of the front of the appliance (see Diagram 3). 3a Conventional Flue AR1824 Battery pack AR Remove the glass door by unscrewing: 6 screws on the Conventional Flue 9 screws on the Balanced Flue (see Diagram 6). 6 3b Balanced Flue Battery Pack AR2587 PR0816 6

7 USER INSTRUCTIONS 5.3 Remove the ceramic logs and granules, and place them on a dry, clean surface The logs should not require cleaning. Do not use a vacuum cleaner or brush to clean the logs, any large pieces of debris may be removed by hand. 5.5 Ensure any debris is removed from the burner ports. 5.6 Replace the ceramics by referring to Section Use a damp cloth to clean the outer casing of the appliance. 5.8 To clean the glass surface, Gazco recommends you use a ceramic glass product generally sold for cleaning ceramic hobs. 6. ARRANGEMENT OF FUEL BED COMPONENTS AR Place log 1 (large black log) on the burner. Ensure the rear of the log touches the rear of the burner (see Diagram 8). 8 ADVICE ON HANDLING AND DISPOSAL OF FIRE CERAMICS The fuel effect and side panels in this appliance are made from Refractory Ceramic Fibre (RCF), a material which is commonly used for this application. Protective clothing is not required when handling these articles, but we recommend you follow normal hygiene rules of not smoking, eating or drinking in the work area and always wash your hands before eating or drinking. To ensure that the release of RCF fibres are kept to a minimum, during installation and servicing a HEPA filtered vacuum is recommended to remove any dust accumulated in and around the appliance before and after working on it. When servicing the appliance it is recommended that the replaced items are not broken up, but are sealed within heavy duty polythene bags and labelled as RCF waste. RCF waste is classed as stable, non-reactive hazardous waste and may be disposed of at a licensed landfill site. Excessive exposure to these materials may cause temporary irritation to eyes, skin and respiratory tract; wash hands thoroughly after handling the material. THE BAG OF GRANULES CONTAINED IN THE LOG SET IS TO SIMULATE AN ASH EFFECT. THIS IS NOT TO BE PLACED ON THE BURNER. AR0750 CENTRALISE THE LOG BETWEEN THE BURNER PORTS AT EITHER END. ALL THE REMAINING LOGS EXCEPT FOR THE SMALLEST ONE HAVE LOCATION HOLES ON THE UNDERSIDE, THESE LOCATE ON THE STUDS AT THE FRONT OF THE FIRE. 6.3 Place log 2 on the centre and locate the rear of the log on the large flat area of log 1 (see Diagram 9) Place some of the granules around the rear and sides of the burner tray. ENSURE NO GRANULES FALL ON THE BURNER (see Diagram 7). AR0751 7

8 USER INSTRUCTIONS 6.4 Place log 3 on the far left-hand stud. The recess on the underside of the log should locate on the top of log 1 on the far left-hand side (see Diagram 10) Place log 6 on the remaining stud and lean the log onto log 1 between logs 2 and 3. There is a notch to locate the log (see Diagram 13). 13 AR0755 AR Place log 4 on the right-hand side of the centre log. There is a large recess on the underside of the log, which is located on log 1 (see Diagram 11) Place log 7 at the front of the fire between logs 4 and 5. DO NOT PLACE THIS LOG ON THE BURNER. IT IS ONLY TO FILL THE GAP BETWEEN LOGS 4 AND 5. The charred effect should face the rear of the fire. Place the remaining granules between the logs so that they cover the front metal ledge (see Diagram 14). 14 AR0753 AR Place log 5 on top of log 4 and ensure the two large locations engage. Locate the front of the log onto the far right-hand stud (see Diagram 12). 12 ENSURE NO GRANULES FALL ON THE BURNER. 6.9 Ensure that the fibreglass seal on the back of the glass frame is intact then hook the location tabs over the hooks on top of the firebox. Replace the nine screws working from the top down. Tighten the screws evenly. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN. See Diagram 6, Section 5 Cleaning the Appliance. NEVER OPERATE THE APPLIANCE WHEN THE GLASS PANEL IS REMOVED OR BROKEN. AR Replace the decorative frame by hooking the top over the location lugs on top of the flanges, replace the two fixing screws, see Diagram 5, Section 5 Cleaning the Appliance. NOTE: If the appliance is fitted with an alternative Gazco Riva front, please refer to the separate leaflet supplied with the front. NOTE: ENSURE THAT THE LOGS ARE POSITIONED AS ABOVE. ONLY USE THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF LOGS AS SPECIFIED IN THE DIAGRAMS. 8

9 USER INSTRUCTIONS 7. oxygen depletion SENSOR conventional flue only The appliance is fitted with an oxygen sensitive pilot system that will act to cut off the gas supply to the appliance should the oxygen in the room fall below its normal level. If the appliance is turned off by this device it usually indicates that there is a problem with the flue system, this should be inspected by a qualified engineer. 13. HOT SURFACES Parts of this appliance become hot during normal use. It is therefore recommended that a suitable fire guard be used for protection of young children and the infirm. Indeed, all parts of the appliance should be treated as a 'working surface' except for the control access panel. If frames other than the Profil are being fitted, refer to their instructions. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE THE APPLIANCE UNTIL AN ENGINEER SAYS IT IS SAFE TO DO SO. THIS DEVICE IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR AN INDEPENDENTLY MOUNTED CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR flame failure device This is a safety feature incorporated on this appliance which automatically switches off the gas supply if the pilot goes out and fails to heat the thermocouple. 9. running in The surface coating on the logs used in your GAZCO fire will "burn off" during the first few hours of use producing a harmless and temporary odour. This will disappear after a short period of use. If the odour persists, ask your installer for advice. 10. servicing The fire must be serviced every 12 months by a qualified Gas Engineer. In all correspondence always quote the Model number and the Serial number which may be found on the data badge. 14. Appliance WILL NOT LIGHT If you cannot light the appliance: AR Check and change the batteries in the remote handset Check and change the batteries in the battery pack (see Section 4) Consult your Gazco dealer or installer if the appliance still does not light. 11. ventilation Any purpose provided ventilation should be checked periodically to ensure that it is free from obstruction. 12. installation details To assist in any future correspondence, your installer should have completed the commissioning sheet at the front of this book, this records the essential installation details of the appliance. 13 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS SITE REQUIREMENTS 1. Flue and Chimney Requirements CONVENTIONAL FLUE WHEN INSTALLING A FLUE SYSTEM PLEASE REFER TO THE MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONS. Due to the recent changes to European chimney standards, new flue s and chimney s are now described by their temperature, pressure and resistance to corrosion, condensation and fire. To assist in identifying the correct flue system, the minimum flue specification is shown in the Technical Specification. Existing chimneys are not covered by this system. 1.1 The chimney or flue system must comply with the rules in force, and must be 127mm (5") in diameter. A suitable system is single or twin wall rigid flue pipe. A suitable system is the Single or twin wall rigid flue pipe 1.2 The minimum effective height of the flue must be 3 metres (10ft). 1.3 The flue must be free from any obstruction. Any damper plates should be removed or secured in the fully open position and no restrictor plates should be fitted. 2. Flue and Chimney Requirements BALANCED FLUE NOTE: This appliance can only be installed in conjunction with the flue supplied. 2.1 The flue must be sited in accordance with BS5440: Part 1 (latest edition) (see Diagram 1). 2.2 Any terminal which is less than 2 metres above any access (level ground, balcony or above a flat roof to which people have access) is to be fitted with a guard. 2.3 All vertical and horizontal flues must be securely fixed and fire precautions followed in accordance with local and national codes of practice. 2.4 A restrictor may be required. Refer to Technical Specifications on page Two types of flue terminals are available, horizontal and vertical. For a horizontal terminal, decide on the terminal position and measure the height from the top of the appliance to the centre of the required hole. 14 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS SITE REQUIREMENTS - BALANCED FLUE 2.6 Access must be left either above or at the side of the installation to allow the flue to be assembled on top of the appliance. When a horizontal terminal is used, the vertical sections are assembled first, then the 90-degree elbow and finally the horizontal section including the terminal. If a masonry installation is to be built, a suitable lintel must be used to support the opening. 1C 2.7 Only the horizontal terminal section can be reduced in size. 3. FLUE OPTIONS - BALANCED FLUE 1A AR TOP FLUE UP & OUT KIT (8534/8534AN) 1B Start of bend to centre line of horizontal flue 170mm. Centre line of vertical flue to end of bend 220mm. AR1671 Vertical from the top of the appliance then horizontally out. (See Diagram 1A). The basic kit comprises: 1 x 200mm vertical length 1 x 500mm terminal length (cut to length on site) 1 x 90 degree elbow 1 x wall plate 1 x 70mm restrictor 1 x 60mm restrictor fixing screws The kit may be used on its own. (Note with a 200mm rise only the 500mm terminal length can be used). Extra lengths may be added to the vertical and horizontal from the list below. 3.2 TOP FLUE UP & OUT WITH ADDITIONAL BEND When A = 1.0 to metres B& C = 1.0 metres maximum When A = to 3.0 metres B&C = 4.0 metres maximum AR1672 Any additional bend may be used on the horizontal section (either 45 or 90 ), but the overall horizontal flue run will be reduced. Refer to Diagram 1B. 3.3 TOP FLUE VERTICAL KIT (8524/8524AN) Vertical from the top of the appliance (See Diagram 1C). A minimum vertical rise 3m (9 10") to a maximum 10m (32 10"). APPLIANCE LOCATION 6.1 With the exception of the F67 Riva (see below), it is not necessary to site these products on a non-combustible floor. However, for practical reasons, the floor should be flat and solid to allow the appliance to be levelled and secured in place. 6.2 This appliance may be situated anywhere in the room, but due consideration should be taken to ensure that it is sited within the constraints of the allowable flue configuration. 6.3 As well as allowing for the flue position, you must also consider the position of bench and the F67 upon the bench. 6.4 If the appliance is to be sited against a combustible wall, a clearance of 50mm should be allowed between the wall and the rear of the appliance. 6.5 F67 Riva For all the above options, local and national codes of practice must be adhered to. CONVENTIONAL & BALANCED FLUE 4. GAS SUPPLY 2 The F67 Riva requires a non-combustible hearth. A non-combustible hearth must be at least 12mm thick and project 50mm from the base of the stove in all directions. The minimum dimensions are shown in Diagram Before installation, ensure that the local distribution conditions (identification of the type of gas and pressure) and the adjustment of the appliance are compatible. 4.2 Ensure that the gas supply is capable of delivering the required amount of gas and is in accordance with the rules in force. 4.3 Soft copper tubing can be used to install the appliance. Soft soldered joints can be used externally of the appliance but must be restricted to the area shown in Diagram This appliance is supplied complete with a factory fitted isolation device incorporated into the inlet connection, no further isolation device is required. 4.5 All supply gas pipes must be purged of any debris that may have entered, prior to connection to the appliance. 4.6 The gas supply enters through the silicone panel located on the RH side of the outer box; this will need to be slit with a sharp knife prior to passing the supply pipe through. 5. VENTILATION 5.1 This appliance requires no additional ventilation. MINIMUM CLEARANCE A = 980 mm B = 520 mm C = Minimum 12 mm 6.6 F67 Riva Pedestal & F67 Riva Bench AR The Riva Pedestal or the Riva Bench does not need a non-combustible floor but the appliance must not be fitted on a carpet. Use a solid floor These two appliances can be situated anywhere in the room but when siting you must consider the constraints of the flue If the appliance is to be sited against a wall, a clearance of 50mm must be allowed between the wall and the appliance. 15

Otherwise the instructions should be understood as applicable to all three models. IMPORTANT: ENSURE THAT THE APPLIANCE IS CORRECTLY ADJUSTED FOR THE GAS TYPE AND CATEGORY APPLICABLE IN THE COUNTRY OF USE. REFER TO DATA BADGE AND TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS AT THE FRONT OF THE BOOKLET. LPG MODELS: THE APPLIANCE IS FACTORY SET TO RUN ON BUTANE (G30). IF IT IS INTENDED TO BE USED ON PROPANE (G31) THE AERATION PLATE SUPPLIED MUST BE FITTED. TO CHANGE AERATION PLATE REFER TO REPLACING PARTS, SECTION 8 (BALANCED FLUE) OR 9 (CONVENTIONAL FLUE). FOR DETAILS OF CHANGING BETWEEN GAS TYPES REFER TO REPLACING PARTS, SECTION 10 (BALANCED FLUE) OR 11 (CONVENTIONAL FLUE). 2. installation of the appliance NOTE: THERE IS AN OPTIONAL CONVECTION FAN KIT AVAILABLE [8566 Balanced Flue or 8571 Conventional Flue]. THIS CAN BE FITTED EITHER DURING OR AFTER INSTALLATION, BUT PROVISION FOR A POWER SUPPLY MUST BE MADE PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF THE APPLIANCE. 2.1 Remove the appliance from the carton and discard all unnecessary packaging. Ensure no components are thrown away when unpacking. 2.2 Unpack the Spectrum frame supplied with the appliance and place to one side. 2.3 F67 Riva Bench only To secure the bench to the floor: Position the bench where required Mark its position on the floor through the keyholes in the small opening on both legs (see Diagram 1) SAFETY PRECAUTIONS 1.1 This appliance must be installed in accordance with the rules in force, and used only in a sufficiently ventilated space. Please read these instructions before installation and use of this appliance. 1.2 These instructions must be left intact with the user. 1.3 Do not attempt to burn rubbish on this appliance. 1.4 In your own interest, and those of safety, this appliance must be installed by competent persons in accordance with local and national codes of practice. Failure to install the appliance correctly could lead to prosecution. 1.5 Keep all plastic bags away from young children. 1.6 Do not place any object on or near to the appliance. Allow adequate clearance above the appliance. IF THE APPLIANCE IS EXTINGUISHED OR GOES OUT IN USE, WAIT 3 MINUTES BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO RELIGHT THE APPLIANCE. AR1895 Remove the bench Drill and fit fixing screws in the floor Partially tighten providing enough margin to then: Manoeuvre the bench and slide the keyholes into the screws Tighten the screws fully To secure the appliance to the bench you must consider where you place the appliance on the bench before using the template (see Diagram 2). 2 AR

17 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS INSTALLATION Using the template as a guide to the final position of the fire: Mark and drill the holes Position the appliance on the bench lining up the holes in its base with the holes you have drilled in the bench Fit the fixing screws 2.4 Remove the glass door by unscrewing: 6 screws on the Conventional Flue 9 screws on the Balanced Flue Diagram 2 Carefully remove the box containing the logs from the firebox. Place to one side as these are fragile. The ceramic brick effect is factory fitted, take care not to damage these components. The gas supply is connected at the back of the unit Balanced Flue Installation 2.5 Two types of flue terminals are available, horizontal and vertical. For a horizontal terminal, decide on the terminal position and measure the height from the top of the appliance to the centre of the required hole. For minimum and maximum flue dimensions see Diagram 5. 5 Pass the gas pipe through the back of the appliance (see Diagram 3). 3 AR1916 Connect the gas pipe to the pressure test point (see Diagram 4). 4 AR0814 & AR0815 TAKE CARE WHEN MARKING OUT FOR THE FLUE AS IT IS DIFFICULT TO MOVE AFTER INSTALLATION. IF A RESTRICTOR IS REQUIRED FIT THIS BETWEEN THE SMALL OUTLET SPIGOT AND THE AIR DUCT SEE DIAGRAM 6. REFER TO TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR RESTRICTOR SIZE. AR AR

18 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS INSTALLATION 2.6 A 152mm (6") diameter hole is required to install the flue. This can be achieved by either: a) Core drill b) Hammer and chisel. It is advisable to drill small holes around the circumference when using method b. Make good both ends of the hole Only the horizontal terminal section can be reduced in size. To determine the length, measure from the outside of the wall to the stop on the 90-degree elbow. Measuring from the slots on the outer flue furthest away from the outlet, add 10mm onto the required measured length and mark around the flue (see Diagram 7). 7 Silicone panel Elbow AR Connect a suitable pressure gauge to the test point located on the inlet fitting and turn the gas supply on. Light the appliance and check for leaks. Turn the appliance to maximum and check that the supply pressure is as stated on the data badge. Turn the gas off and replace the test point screw, turn the gas on and check the test point for leaks. AR0629 A wall plate is supplied to secure the flue to the wall. Bend the tab to 90. Assemble the plate onto the flue but only secure to the wall and flue when the flue is fully assembled. 2.8 There is a cardboard fitment in the terminal. This is to support the flue whilst it is cut to length. REMOVE THE REMAINDER OF THE CARDBOARD AFTER CUTTING TO SIZE (see Diagram 8). 8 AR Remove the compression elbow from the appliance and connect it to the gas supply pipe. As the appliance is located into the enclosure, pass the elbow and supply pipe through the silicone panel on the RH side. PURGE THE SUPPLY PIPE. This is essential to expel any debris that may block the gas controls. Connect the elbow to the appliance inlet pipe (see Diagram 9). 3. ARRANGEMENT OF FUEL BED COMPONENTS ADVICE ON HANDLING AND DISPOSAL OF FIRE CERAMICS The fuel effect and side panels in this appliance are made from Refractory Ceramic Fibre (RCF), a material which is commonly used for this application. Protective clothing is not required when handling these articles, but we recommend you follow normal hygiene rules of not smoking, eating or drinking in the work area and always wash your hands before eating or drinking. To ensure that the release of RCF fibres are kept to a minimum, during installation and servicing a HEPA filtered vacuum is recommended to remove any dust accumulated in and around the appliance before and after working on it. When servicing the appliance it is recommended that the replaced items are not broken up, but are sealed within heavy duty polythene bags and labelled as RCF waste. RCF waste is classed as stable, non-reactive hazardous waste and may be disposed of at a licensed landfill site. Excessive exposure to these materials may cause temporary irritation to eyes, skin and respiratory tract; wash hands thoroughly after handling the material. THE BAG OF GRANULES CONTAINED IN THE LOG SET IS TO SIMULATE AN ASH EFFECT. THIS IS NOT TO BE PLACED ON THE BURNER. 3.1 Place some of the granules around the rear and sides of the burner tray. ENSURE NO GRANULES FALL ON THE BURNER (see Diagram 10). 18

19 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS INSTALLATION Place log 3 on the far left-hand stud. The recess on the underside of the log should locate on the top of log 1 on the far left-hand side (see Diagram 13). 13 AR Place log 1 (large black log) on the burner. Ensure the rear of the log touches the rear of the burner (see Diagram 11). 11 AR Place log 4 on the right-hand side of the centre log. There is a large recess on the underside of the log, which locates on log 1 (see Diagram 14). 14 AR0750 CENTRALISE THE LOG BETWEEN THE BURNER PORTS AT EITHER END. ALL THE REMAINING LOGS EXCEPT FOR THE SMALLEST ONE HAVE LOCATION HOLES ON THE UNDERSIDE, THESE LOCATE ON THE STUDS AT THE FRONT OF THE FIRE. 3.3 Place log 2 on the centre and locate the rear of the log on the large flat area of log 1 (see Diagram 12). AR Place log 5 on top of log 4 and ensure the two large locations engage. Locate the front of the log on to the far right-hand stud (see Diagram 15) AR0754 AR Place log 6 on the remaining stud and lean the log on to log 1 between logs 2 and 3. There is a notch to locate the log (see Diagram 16). 19

20 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS INSTALLATION 16 5A. Operating the appliance IMPORTANT - THE CONTROL SYSTEM HAS BEEN PROGRAMMED TO OPERATE ON CHANNEL 'A'. IN SOME INSTANCES MULTIPLE HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES MAY HAVE ALSO BEEN SET TO OPERATE ON THE SAME CHANNEL. ALTHOUGH THIS HAS NO EFFECT ON THE SAFETY OF THE SYSTEM YOU MAY ENCOUNTER AN EXCESSIVE DELAY BETWEEN COMMANDS. IF THIS OCCURS PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS, COMMISSIONING, SECTION 3 TO CHANGE THE CHANNEL. AR Place log 7 at the front of the fire between logs 4 and 5. DO NOT PLACE THIS LOG ON THE BURNER. IT IS ONLY TO FILL THE GAP BETWEEN LOGS 4 AND 5. The charred effect should face the rear of the fire. Place the remaining granules between the logs so that they cover the front metal ledge (see Diagram 17). ENSURE NO GRANULES FALL ON THE BURNER. 17 The remote control handset has been factory set to only communicate with the appliance it is supplied with. The appliance will not respond to any other remote control, even one from an identical appliance. Note: In the event of a replacement handset being acquired, pairing of the handset with the appliance will need to be carried out. Please refer to Commissioning, Section 2, Pairing Handset on page 22. The appliance can be operated in two ways: Using the remote control handset. Using the touch pad control on the appliance. The appliance has four flame settings which can be controlled manually or automatically via temperature sensing: 1. High (Pilot lit and main burner lit at the highest flame setting). AR Med (Pilot lit and main burner lit at the medium flame setting). 4. FITTING THE DOOR 3. Low (Pilot lit and main burner lit at the minimum flame setting). 4.1 Ensure that the fibreglass seal on the back of the glass frame is intact then hook the location tabs over the hooks on the top of the firebox. Replace the nine screws working from the top down. Tighten the screws evenly. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN. See Diagram 6, Section 5 'Cleaning the Appliance'. NEVER OPERATE THE APPLIANCE WHEN THE GLASS PANEL IS REMOVED OR BROKEN. 4.2 Replace the decorative frame by hooking the top over the location lugs on top of the flanges, replace the two fixing screws (see Diagram 5, Section 5 'Cleaning the Riva'). NOTE: If the appliance is fitted with an alternative Gazco Riva front, please refer to the separate leaflet supplied with the front. NOTE: ENSURE THAT THE LOGS ARE POSITIONED AS ABOVE. ONLY USE THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF LOGS AS SPECIFIED IN THE DIAGRAMS. 18 Up Button 4. Standby (Pilot only). Down Button On/Off Button AR2516a 20

The appliance will emit a beep to confirm the order has been received and the LED on the handset will briefly illuminate. After the start up cycle has completed the appliance will light on the high flame setting (this can take up to 20 seconds). To decrease the flame height: 19 5B. OPERATING THE APPLIANCE TOUCH PAD CONTROL The touch pad control is located at the base of the front of the appliance (see Diagram 19). Conventional Flue Balanced Flue 5.2 From the high flame setting press the DOWN ( ) button once to lower the flame to the medium setting. Each time a command from the handset is received by the appliance a beep will be emitted and the LED on the handset will briefly illuminate. NOTE: In normal operating mode the LED on the remote control will flash approximately every 4 seconds to show that it is in communication with the appliance. After each command has been accepted the LED will cease flashing until the command has been carried out. Wait until the LED resumes flashing before giving another command. 5.3 From the medium flame setting press the DOWN ( ) button once to lower the flame to the low setting. 5.4 From the low flame setting press the DOWN ( ) button once to put the appliance in Standby mode (Pilot only). To increase the flame height: 5.5 To light the appliance when it is in Standby mode press the UP ( ) button once. The appliance will light on the high flame setting. 5.6 From the low setting press the UP ( ) button once to increase the flame setting to medium. 5.7 From the medium setting press the UP ( ) button once to increase the flame setting to high. BATTERIES 5.8 The remote handset contains 2 x AA 1.5v alkaline batteries. Replace exhausted batteries like for like (use high quality batteries, Duracell or similar). DO NOT USE RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES. 5.9 Communication between the handset and the appliance may take up to 2 mins after batteries have been replaced If communication is not regained after this time the control unit and the handset may need pairing. Please refer to Commissioning, Section 2, Pairing Handset on page To light the appliance press the On/Off button once. The appliance will emit a beep to confirm the order has been received and the LED on the touch pad will briefly illuminate. After the start up cycle has completed the appliance will light on the high flame setting (this can take up to 20 seconds). A second beep and flash of the touch pad LED will confirm the command has been carried out. To decrease the flame height: 5.9 From the high flame setting press the DOWN ( ) button once to lower the flame to the medium setting. Each time a command from the touch pad is received by the appliance a beep will be emitted and the LED on the touch pad will briefly illuminate. A second beep and flash of the touch pad LED will confirm the command has been carried out. Wait for this confirmation before giving another command From the medium flame setting press the DOWN ( ) button once to lower the flame to the low setting From the low flame setting press the DOWN ( ) button once to put the appliance in Standby mode (Pilot only). To increase the flame height: 5.12 To light the appliance when it is in Standby mode press the UP ( ) button once. The appliance will light on the high flame setting From the low setting press the UP ( ) button once to increase the flame setting to medium From the medium setting press the UP ( ) button once to increase the flame setting to high. 21

TOUCH PAD CONTROL NOT WORKING If the appliance is not operating with the touch pad control: 5.15 Replace the batteries in the battery pack following Section If the appliance still fails to operate consult your installer or Gazco dealer. 6. turning the APPLIANCE off REMOTE CONTROL 6.1 To turn the appliance off press the On/Off ( ) button once. TOUCH PAD CONTROL 6.2 To turn the appliance off press the On/Off button once. c) Hot surfaces (Section 13 of the User Instructions). d) How the appliance works with the touch pad control (Section 2B of the User Instructions). e) How the appliance works with the remote control handset and the modes of operation (Section 2A of the User Instructions). g) What to do if the appliance fails to operate (Section 14 of the User Instructions). 2. PAIRING THE HANDSET WITH THE APPLIANCE Prior to re-connection of the control box to the appliance, if there is no communication between the remote handset and the appliance, or if the handset is replaced, it will be necessary to pair the (new) handset with the appliance. 2.1 Remove the screw or screws (depending on model) securing the control box bracket (see Diagram 1). IF THE FIRE IS EXTINGUISHED OR GOES OUT IN USE, WAIT 3 MINUTES BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO RELIGHT IT. THE CONTROL VALVE HAS AN INTERLOCK DEVICE AND THEREFORE CANNOT BE LIT UNTIL THE 3 MINUTES HAVE ELAPSED. 1a Conventional Flue 1. COMMISSIONING the appliance 1.1 Complete the Commissioning Checklist at the front of this manual covering: Flue checks Gas checks AR2586 Log layout - flame picture For working pressure test, use the access panel at the gas connection ensuring the burner is in position. Refer to Installation Instructions, Section Upon completion of of the commissioning and testing of the installation and correct operation of the appliance, the installer must instruct the user how to operate the appliance. 1b Balanced Flue 1.3 Guide the user through the User Instructions paying particular attention to: a) Regular servicing (Section 10 of the User Instructions). b) Ventilation (Section 11 of the User Instructions) - point out the ventilation positions where applicable. Riva 67 Screws AR Ensure batteries are fitted and working in the handset. 2.3 Ensure all leads and cables are connected correctly. 22

23 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS COMMISSIONING 2.4 Press the On/Off button ( ) for at least 10 seconds. The LED will flash on and off as normal during this time. When the LED on the control lights up for at least 1 second release the button. 2.5 Within 5 seconds of the LED going out press the ( ) button followed directly by the ( ) button. 2.6 Within 20 seconds press the yellow button on the control box (see Diagram 2). This may be easier using a pencil, ball point pen or similar The motor on the valve will turn. Once it has stopped repeatedly press and release the yellow button on the control box until the control box beeps to confirm the pairing operation has been successful. 3. CHANGING COMMUNICATION CHANNEL 3.1 Press the On/Off button ( ) for at least 10 seconds. The LED will flash on and off as normal during this time. When the LED on the control lights up for at least 1 second release the button. 3.2 Within 5 seconds of the LED going out press the OK button. Remote Handset Pairing Button AR The control box will beep to confirm the pairing operation has been successful. If there are any difficulties achieving pairing ensure that the handset is set to Channel A. To do this follow the steps below: 2.8 Press the On/Off button ( ) for at least 10 seconds. The LED will flash on and off as normal during this time. When the LED on the control lights up for at least 1 second release the button. 2.9 Within 5 seconds of the LED going out press the OK button and then press the ( ) button. 3.3 Use the UP ( ) and DOWN ( ) buttons to select a new communication channel. Assuming the appliance is set to Channel A press the UP ( ) button once to select Channel B, and again to select Channel C. From Channel C press the DOWN ( ) button once to select Channel B, and again to select Channel A. 3.4 Once the chosen channel has been selected disconnect the battery pack from the control box and reconnect after 10 seconds. This completes the channel change. 3.5 To reset the communication channel to Channel A press the On/Off button ( ) for at least 10 seconds. The LED will flash on and off as normal during this time. When the LED on the control lights up for at least 1 second release the button. 3.6 Within 5 seconds of the LED going out press the OK button. Do not give any further commands for at least 10 seconds. 3.7 To return to normal operating mode wait for at least 5 seconds or press the On/Off button ( ) once Disconnect the batteries from the control box and reconnect after 10 seconds. The handset will now be set to Channel A Attempt the pairing again following the steps below: NOTE: These steps differ from the previous Press the On/Off button ( ) for at least 10 seconds. The LED will flash on and off as normal during this time. When the LED on the control lights up for at least 1 second release the button Within 5 seconds of the LED going out press the ( ) button followed directly by the ( ) button Disconnect the battery pack from the control box and reconnect after 10 seconds. 23

24 SERVICING INSTRUCTIONS SERVICING / FAULT FINDING CHARTS 1. SERVICING REQUIREMENTS IMPORTANT The glass panel on this appliance should be checked for any signs of damage on the front face of the glass panel (scratches, scores, cracks or other surface defects). If damage is observed, the glass panel must be replaced and the appliance must not be used until a replacement is installed. Under no circumstances should the appliance be used if any damage is observed. Please isolate the appliance until a replacement glass panel has been obtained and installed. Replacement glass panels can be purchased from Gazco via the dealer from which the appliance was purchased or any other Gazco distributor. This appliance must be serviced at least once a year by a competent person. All tests must be serviced by best practice as described by the current Gas Safe recommendations. 1.1 Before any test are undertaken on the appliance, conduct a gas soundness test for the property to ensure that there are no gas leaks prior to starting work. 1.2 Before any tests are undertaken on the appliance it is also recommended to fully check the operation of the appliance. 1.3 Special checks: Clean any lint or fluff from the pilot - pay particular attention to the aeration hole in the side of the pilot Clean away any fluff or lint from under the burner Check that the spark gap on the pilot is correct. 1.4 Correct any faults found during the initial tests and then re-commission the appliance conducting the usual safety checks. 1.5 Advise the customer of any remedial action taken. IGNITION FUNCTIONAL CHECK 1 PILOT WILL NOT LIGHT Ensure there is no debris around the pilot assembly, (e.g. soot, etc.) which could short the spark, clean the area. No Operate the valve control Does the pilot light? system in the manual mode via the touch pad or remote. Is there a spark? No Consult User Instructions and retry. No Is the control being operated correctly? Check alignment of pilot burner head. Change the ignition lead, see Replacing Parts, Section 4 or 5 depending on model. Will the pilot light with a match? No Check isolation tap and gas meter, retry. No Is the gas turned on to the appliance? Correct and retry. No Is the gas pressure correct? Purge the gas pipes and retry. Has the system got any air in it? No There is a blockage in the system, check the inlet test point, the mag seating and valve. No Check the tab on the pilot burner is not damaged. Either repair tab or replace pilot burner and retry. Has ignition lead become detached or is connection poor? Correct and retry. No Remove the ignition lead from electrode. With insulated pliers. Hold the tip 4.0mm from the pilot pipe work, is there a spark when the system is operated? Check handset batteries are OK. 27 SERVICING INSTRUCTIONS REPLACING PARTS - CONVENTIONAL FLUE 1. GENERAL - conventional flue All principal components can be replaced without removing the appliance from its installation, although it is essential that the gas supply to the appliance is turned off at the isolation device before proceeding further. 1.2 It will be necessary to remove the complete burner module before any of the components can be serviced. 2. REMOVE THE BURNER MODULE 2.1 To remove the module: Remove the decorative front by undoing the screws at the bottom lift the frame towards you and up (see Diagram 1). HAVE YOU ISOLATED THE GAS SUPPLY? AR Disconnect the isolating device from the appliance inlet pipe so as to leave the gas supply isolated. 2.7 Remove the screws retaining the log support (see Diagram 4). 4 AR1824 AR Remove the glass frame. See Diagram 2, arrow A Remove the two screws at the front of the burner tray and loosen the screw at the rear (see Diagram 5). AR0758a 5 AR0748A 2.3 Remove the ceramic logs. 2.4 Remove the granules. 2.5 Carefully slide the side panels forward (see Diagram 3) and store safely (they are very fragile). 2.9 Hold the burner tray at the front, pull forward and rotate upwards. The unit can now be serviced When replacing the unit ensure the location tabs engage under the divider plate (see Diagram 6). AR0767(A) 27

28 SERVICING INSTRUCTIONS REPLACING PARTS - CONVENTIONAL FLUE When replacing the module ensure the thermocouple, feed pipe and pilot pipe engage in the divider plate slot (see Diagram 9). Check for leaks. 9 AR Main Burner 3.1 With the module removed (see Servicing Instructions, Replacing Parts, Section 2) undo the injector nut. Remove the thermocouple from the rear of the gas valve. 3.2 Remove the pilot pipe from the pilot unit and the gas valve (see Diagram 7). Pull the ignition lead off the electrode. Turn the module over and remove the four screws (see Diagram 8). The burner can now be removed Pilot Unit AR Undo the compression nut on the pilot burner then undo the thermocouple at the rear of the gas valve. Carefully cut the cable ties holding the thermocouple to the pilot pipe. Remove the HT lead from the electrode, undo the two retaining screws and remove the pilot (see Diagram 10). 10 AR AR When replacing the pilot ensure the thermocouple follows its original route, i.e. along the pilot pipe. Attach the thermocouple to the pipe with new cable ties. 4.3 Set the spark gap (see Diagram 11). AR To replace the burner, align the injector with the feed pipe and loosely attach the nut. Replace the four screws and tighten the injector nut. Replace the thermocouple, pilot pipe and ignition lead. 28

29 SERVICING INSTRUCTIONS REPLACING PARTS - CONVENTIONAL FLUE Gas Valve 6.1 Remove the burner module as described in Servicing, Replacing Parts, Section Disconnect the 2 x 8mm and 1 x 4mm gas pipe fittings from the valve. Also disconnect the thermocouple, leads, and interrupter block. Note that the lead with the red indicator is nearest the valve body (see Diagram 13). 13 AR Ignition Lead 5.1 Gain access to the pilot assembly (see Section 2) and disconnect the ignition lead from the electrode. 5.2 Remove the control box fixing screw and pull the box forward to gain access to the ignition lead (see Diagram 12) AR Disconnect the plug from the top of the valve motor. Use a small screw driver to release the catch and push the plug upwards. Do not pull the wire harness (see Diagram 14). 14 Ignition lead Screw AR Replace with a new ignition lead following the same route as the old one. Replace the valve cover and the pilot assembly. 5.4 When replacing the control box ensure no wires are trapped and check the operation of the new ignition lead. AR Undo the two nuts to release the valve off the bracket. DO NOT UNDO THE TWO SCREWS AT THE FRONT OF THE BRACKET. THEY WILL REMOVE THE MOTOR FROM THE BODY. NOTE: There is an earth wire between the valve and the bracket. This must be replaced back in this position. 6.5 Replace in reverse order. 6.6 Check all joints for leaks, check the operation of the thermocouple and ignition lead. 29

30 SERVICING INSTRUCTIONS REPLACING PARTS - CONVENTIONAL FLUE 7. Magnetic Safety Valve 7.1 Remove the burner module as described in Servicing, Replacing Parts, Section 2. Undo the thermocouple connection from the back of the gas valve. 7.2 Undo the mag valve retaining nut at the back of the control valve, gently tap out the mag valve and replace with a new unit. Replace the retaining nut and tighten (see Diagram 15) Primary Aeration Plate NOT ALL MODELS HAVE AERATION PLATES. REFER TO TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS, PAGE Remove the burner module as described in Servicing, Replacing Parts, Section Remove the fixing screw and slide the plate off the venturi. 9.3 Replace with the correct size plate and secure with the screw. Ensure the lower edge of the plate is located over the venturi flange (see Diagram 17). 17 AR1486 AR Reassemble the thermocouple into the rear of the valve. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. Check for leaks after reassembly. Ensure the interrupter leads are in the correct orientation, red lead nearest the valve body. 8. Main Injector 10. CONTROL BOX 10.1 Undo the screw holding the control box (see Diagram 18). The control box can now be replaced Remove the burner module as described in Servicing, Replacing Parts, Section 2. Disconnect the pipe from the injector and the gas valve (see Diagram 16). 16 Screw AR Disconnect from the control box: AR Rotate the injector until it is fully removed, and install the correct replacement injector. Re-assemble and turn the gas supply on, check for any leaks. This may be easier using a pencil, ball point pen or similar The control box will beep to confirm the pairing operation has been successful. Interrupter Lead Set If there are any difficulties achieving pairing ensure that the handset is set to Channel A. To do this follow the steps below: Earth Connection Battery Power Supply Cable Touch Pad Supply Cable AR Press the On/Off button ( ) for at least 10 seconds. The LED will flash on and off as normal during this time. When the LED on the control lights up for at least 1 second release the button Within 5 seconds of the LED going out press the OK button and then press the ( ) button After replacing the control box ensure all cables connections are refitted as detailed in Diagram Thermocouple Earth Lead Touch Pad Control Disconnect the batteries from the control box and reconnect after 10 seconds. The handset will now be set to Channel A Attempt the pairing again following the steps below: Pilot Pipe Interrupter Leads Touch Pad Supply Cable NOTE: These steps differ from the previous Press the On/Off button ( ) for at least 10 seconds. The LED will flash on and off as normal during this time. When the LED on the control lights up for at least 1 second release the button Within 5 seconds of the LED going out press the ( ) button followed directly by the ( ) button. Ignition Lead Stepper Motor Cable Battery Power Supply AR2660a 10.4 Prior to re-connection of the control box to the appliance, if there is no communication between the remote handset and the appliance, or if the handset is replaced, it will be necessary to pair the (new) handset with the appliance Ensure batteries are fitted and working in the handset Re-fit the touch pad control cable and the battery power supply cable to the control box Press the On/Off button ( ) for at least 10 seconds. The LED will flash on and off as normal during this time. When the LED on the control lights up for at least 1 second release the button Within 5 seconds of the LED going out press the ( ) button followed directly by the ( ) button Disconnect the battery pack from the control box and reconnect after 10 seconds The motor on the valve will turn. Once it has stopped repeatedly press and release the yellow button on the control box until the control beeps to confirm the pairing operation has been successful. 11. Changing between Gas Types In order to change between gas types, it will be necessary to change the following items: Burner Unit Pilot Unit Control Valve Injector Aeration Plate (if required) Data badge A kit of parts is available for this, always quote the Model number and Serial number when ordering any spare parts. NOTE: THE CONTROL VALVE IS FACTORY PRESET FOR THE CORRECT GAS TYPE AND MODEL, A NEW UNIT WILL NEED TO BE ORDERED WHEN CHANGING BETWEEN GAS TYPES. 31

32 SERVICING INSTRUCTIONS REPLACING PARTS - BALANCED FLUE 1. GENERAL - balanced flue All principal components can be replaced without removing the appliance from its installation, although it is essential that the gas supply to the appliance is turned off at the isolation device before proceeding further. 1.2 If for any reason the flue has to be removed from the appliance, the seal must be replaced in the inner spigot. 2. MAIN BURNER 2.1 Turn the gas supply off at the isolation device, remove the decorative frame (see Diagram 1). 1 AR Remove the screws from the log support. The inlet pipe nut is now visible between the burner and the angled base of the firebox (see Diagram 4, arrow A). 4 AR1824 AR Remove the glass frame see Diagram 2. 2 AR Undo the inlet pipe nut and the four screws holding the burner to the tray (see Diagram 4, arrow B). The burner, complete with the inlet pipe, can now be removed. 2.3 Remove the ceramic logs and the granules. AR Carefully slide the ceramic sides forward and store safely. See Diagram To replace the burner, locate the inlet pipe onto the brass fitting and loosely fit the nut. DO NOT TIGHTEN THE NUT AT THIS STAGE. Replace the four burner fixing screws, tighten the inlet pipe nut. 2.8 Light the appliance and check for leaks. 32

33 SERVICING INSTRUCTIONS REPLACING PARTS - BALANCED FLUE 3. Pilot Unit The pilot assembly consists of four components, which can be individually changed, these are: 1) Pilot burner bracket. 2) Pilot injector 3) Electrode 4) Thermocouple. 3.1 Turn off the gas supply at the isolating device, remove the outer frame, glass door and the logs. The granules can be moved away from pilot cover to allow access; they do not need to be completely removed. 3.2 Remove the two screws securing the pilot burner to the pilot cover and the two screws securing the cover to the tray (see Diagram 5). The pilot components can now be individually removed To remove the electrode, undo the retaining nut, withdraw the electrode from the pilot burner and disconnect the ignition lead. When replacing the electrode ensure the ignition lead is connected with the terminal pointing downwards (see Diagram 6, arrow B). 3.5 To remove the thermocouple it will be necessary to remove the main burner, logs, vermiculite and log support as described in Section 2. WHEN REMOVING THE THERMOCOUPLE DO NOT DESTROY THE COMPONENT AS IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO PREFORM THE NEW COMPONENT TO THE SAME SHAPE. THIS WILL ASSIST WHEN FITTING THE NEW PART. 3.6 Once the main burner and pilot cover have been removed, there is a cover plate beneath the pilot assembly. Remove the screw and plate. This has been sealed with silicone to ensure no air enters the firebox (see Diagram 6, arrow C). 3.7 Undo the thermocouple retaining nut from the pilot burner (see Diagram 6, arrow D). 3.8 Disconnect the inlet pipe at the pressure test point (see Diagram 7). 7 Pressure test point AR To remove the pilot injector, undo the compression nut on the pilot inlet pipe and withdraw the injector which will be hooked onto the olive. When replacing an injector always ensure it is hooked onto the olive before inserting it into the pilot burner (see Diagram 6, arrow A). 6 AR Disconnect the external pilot pipe from the brass fitting (see Diagram 8, arrow A). 8 B AR0820 A AR0822a AR

34 SERVICING INSTRUCTIONS REPLACING PARTS - BALANCED FLUE 3.10 Remove the external inlet pipe from the brass fitting (see Diagram 8 arrow B) Remove the control box by undoing the 2 x screws securing it to the base of the appliance (see Diagram 9) IGNITION LEAD 4.1 Unplug the ignition lead from the control box (see Diagrams 11). 11 Control Box Screws Screw AR Remove the screw next to the battery box (see Diagram 9). Gently slide the gas valve and bracket forward and disconnect the thermocouple from the rear of the gas valve Push the thermocouple down through the hole in the base of the firebox and remove the component When fitting the new component after it has been shaped to the old thermocouple, push the tip (pilot end) through the hole from under the firebox floor. Do not insert the tip into the pilot burner at this stage Connect the thermocouple at the gas valve, do not over tighten the nut Assemble the gas valve bracket on to the firebox base and all pipes to the valve and fittings Insert the tip of the thermocouple into the pilot burner and tighten the nut. Replace the silicone around the thermocouple and ignition lead. Screw the plate into position, replace the pilot cover, log support and replace the ceramics Check the pilot flame length (see Diagram 10). Ignition Lead Control Box AR Remove the burner as described in Section 2, pilot cover and plate as described in Section Disconnect the ignition lead from the electrode and push the lead complete with the vidaflex through the base of the appliance. 4.4 Cut the cable tie and remove the vidaflex sleeve. THIS MUST BE KEPT AND ASSEMBLED ON THE NEW LEAD. A CABLE TIE MUST ALSO BE USED TO RETAIN THE SLEEVE. 4.5 The lead can only be fitted one way round, ensure this is correct when refitting a replacement. 4.6 When replacing the cover plate ensure silicone sealant is used to seal the aperture. 5. GAS VALVE 5.1 Turn the gas supply off at the isolation elbow, and disconnect from the inlet pipe on the appliance. 5.2 Disconnect the inlet pipe at the pressure test point (see Diagram 12) Pressure test point AR0620 AR

Disconnect the pipe from the injector and the gas valve (see Diagram 16). 16 Screws AR The whole bracket containing the valve control and battery box should now be able to slide out allowing removal of the pipes and thermocouple. 5.7 Undo the 2 x 7mm nuts securing the valve to the bracket. 5.8 Replace in reverse order. 5.9 Check all joints for gas leaks, check the operation of the thermocouple and ignition lead. 6. MAGNETIC SAFETY VALVE 6.1 Remove the gas valve as described in Section Undo the magnetic valve retaining nut at the back of the control valve. Gently tap out the mag valve and replace with a new unit (see Diagram 16). Replace in reverse order. AR Rotate the injector until it is fully removed, and install the correct replacement injector. Re-assemble and turn the gas supply on, check for any leaks. 8. Primary Aeration Plate NOT ALL MODELS HAVE AERATION PLATES.
