WHITE NEW WHITE (Brighter) TECHNICAL CHANGES INFORMATI FOR THE AIR CDITIER WITH R40A REFRIGERANT This room air conditioner adopts an HFC refrigerant (R40A) which never destroys the ozone layer. Pay particular attention to the following points, though the basic installation procedure is same as that for R conditioners. As R40A has working pressure approximate.6 times as high as that of R, some special tools and piping parts/ materials are required. Refer to the table below. Take sufficient care not to allow water and other contaminations to enter the R40A refrigerant during storage and installation, since it is more susceptible to contaminations than R. For refrigerant piping, use clean, pressure-proof parts/materials specifically designed for R40A. (Refer to. Some R tools can be substituted for R40A tools. The diameter of the service port on the stop valve in outdoor unit has been changed to prevent any other refrigerant being charged into the unit. Cap size has been changed from 7/6 UNF with 0 threads to / UNF with 0 threads. R40A tools Can R tools be used? Description R40A has high pressures beyond the measurement range of existing Gauge manifold gauges. Port diameters have been changed to prevent any other refrigerant from being charged into the unit. Charge hose Gas leak detector Hose material and cap size have been changed to improve the pressure resistance. Dedicated for HFC refrigerant. Torque wrench 6.5 mm and 9.5 mm.7 mm Flare tool Flare gauge New Clamp bar hole has been enlarged to reinforce the spring strength in the tool. Provided for flaring work (to be used with R flare tool). Vacuum pump Provided to prevent the back flow of oil. This adapter enables you to use New adapter vacuum pumps. Take care not to discharge refrigerant into the atmosphere during installation, reinstallation, or repairs to the refrigerant circuit. Use the vacuum pump for air purging for the purpose of environmental protection. 5.Additional charge For additional charging, charge the refrigerant from liquid phase of the gas cylinder. If the refrigerant is charged from the gas phase, composition change may occur in the refrigerant inside the cylinder and the outdoor unit. In this case, ability of the refrigerating cycle decreases or normal operation can be impossible. However, charging the liquid refrigerant all at once may cause the compressor to be locked. Thus, charge the refrigerant slowly. Refrigerant bending radius must be 00mm or more. 9 PERFORMANCE CURVES The standard data contained in these specifications apply only to the operation of the air conditioner under normal conditions, since operating conditions vary according to the areas where these units are installed. The following information has been provided to clarify the operating characteristics of the air conditioner under the conditions indicated by the performance curve. 10 How to measure the indoor air wet-bulb/dry-bulb temperature difference. Attach at least sets of wet-and dry-bulb thermometers to the indoor air intake as shown in the figure, and at least sets of wet-and dry-bulb thermometers to the indoor air outlet. The thermometers must be attached to the position where air speed is high.. Attach at least sets of wet-and dry-bulb thermometers to the outdoor air intake. Cover the thermometers to prevent direct rays of the sun.. Check that the air filter is cleaned. 4. Open windows and doors of room. 5. Press the EMERGENCY OPERATI switch once to start the EMERGENCY COOL MODE. 6. When system stabilizes after more than 5 minutes, measure temperature and take an average temperature minutes later, measure temperature again and check that the temperature does not change. TROUBLESHOOTING -. Cautions on troubleshooting. Before troubleshooting, check the following: ) Check the power supply voltage. ) Check the indoor/outdoor connecting wire for mis-wiring.. Take care the following during servicing. ) Before servicing the air conditioner, first be sure to turn off the remote controller to stop the unit, and then after confirming the horizontal vane is closed, turn off the breaker and/or disconnect the power plug. ) Be sure to turn the power supply before removing the front panel, the cabinet, the top panel, and the electronic control P.C. board. ) When removing the electronic control P.C. board, hold the edge of the board with care NOT to apply stress on the components. 4) When connecting or disconnecting the connectors, hold the housing of the connector. DO NOT pull the lead wires. Lead wiring Housing point. Troubleshooting procedure ) First, check if the OPERATI INDICATOR lamp on the indoor unit is flashing on and off to indicate an abnormality. To make sure, check how many times the abnormality indication is flashing on and off before starting service work. ) If the electronic control P.C. board is supposed to be defective, check the copper foil pattern for disconnection and the components for bursting and discoloration. ) When troubleshooting, refer to the flow chart on page 6. 5

18 Compressor and / or outdoor fan doesn t operate. A Check of outdoor unit Start Is there 0V AC between L - N on the TB of outdoor unit? Press the EMERGENCY OPEERATI switch of all indoor units. Check the power supply and connecting wire. minutes later, is there V DC between - on the all terminal blocks of outdoor unit? Is there V DC between - on the terminal block of each indoor unit? Check and rectify the connecting wire of indoor and outdoor unit. Check the indoor unit. Is there 0~5V DC between JP0 DCV and JP9 GND on outdoor control P.C. board? Turn the power supply. Is fuse(f6) on the outdoor control P.C. board blown? Replace the outdoor control P.C. board. Disconnect connector of outdoor fan motor CN9 and outdoor fan capacitor C6. Measure resistance all the solenoid coil. Is resistance 0"? Replace the solenoid coil. Is the resistance 0" or between the lead wire WHT and BLK of outdoor fan motor, or between the lead wire RED and BLK of outdoor fan motor? (Refer to page 7.) Replace the outdoor fan motor and fuse(f6). Short both terminal of fuse(f6). Is the resistance 0" between the fuse(f6) and the terminal of CN90? Replace the fuse(f6). Replace the outdoor control P.C. board. Fan motor doesn't operate. Compressor doesn't operate. Turn the power supply to outdoor unit. Does outdoor control P.C. board connect with outdoor fan capacitor C6? Disconnect connector of outdoor fan motor CN9 and outdoor fan capacitor C6. Is the resistance 0" or between the lead wire WHT and BLK of outdoor fan motor, or between the lead wire RED and BLK of outdoor fan motor? (Refer to page 7.) Replace the outdoor fan motor. Connect the outdoor control P.C. board with outdoor fan capacitor C6. Replace the outdoor control P.C. board. Turn the power supply to outdoor unit. Disconnect connecting wire of X5 and X5 from outdoor control P.C. board. Insulate terminal of connecting wires to prevent contact of other parts. Turn the power supply to outdoor unit. Press the EMERGENCY OPERATI switch of all indoor unit. minutes later, is the resistance 0" between the terminal and 4 of X5 on outdoor control P.C. board, and between the terminal and 4 of X5 on outdoor control P.C. board? Turn the power supply to outdoor unit. Is the resistance 0" or between the terminal C and R of MC, and between the terminal C and S of MC? (Refer to page 7.) Replace the compressor MC. Is the resistance 0" or between the terminal C and R of MC, and between the terminal C and S of MC? (Refer to page 7.) Replace the compressor MC. Turn the power supply to outdoor unit. Replace the outdoor control P.C. board. Check and rectify the connecting wire of terminal and compressor. 8

19 Compressor and / or outdoor fan doesn t stop. B Check of outdoor unit Start Turn the power supply. After minute, turn power supply again. Does compressor or outdoor fan motor stop? OK Is there V DC between on the outdoor terminal block (TB or TB)? Replace the indoor electoronic control P.C. board. Replace the outdoor control P.C. board. When OPERATI INDICATOR lamp flashes 0.5-second intervals. Outdoor unit doesn t operate. C Check of MU & MUX TYPE / MUH & MXZ TYPE SWITCH OVER Start Turn the power supply (indoor / outdoor unit). Set switch (SW-) on the indoor electronic control P.C. board to MUX type. w Does the unit operate? Refer to the "Instruction of troubleshooting." OK w Set the switch (SW-) on indoor electronic control P.C. board to MUX type, when the outdoor unit is MUX type. If the setting is MUH or MXZ type, the unit does not work. Refer to MU & MUX TYPE / MUH& MXZ TYPE SWITCH OVER on service manual OB07 REVISED EDIT-C (-6..) or OB9 (9-4..). Cool air doesn t blow out although indoor unit is operating. D Check of indoor / outdoor units connection and outdoor unit w In case of troubleshooting, be sure to operate indoor unit by emergency operation switch. Start Turn the power supply, and operate all the indoor units at a time. Do they perform the cooling operation? Operate the indoor unit one by one, and measure the voltage between and of outdoor terminal block for each indoor unit. Match the signs of terminal block whose voltage is V DC and pipe of indoor/ outdoor units' connection. w. w. If the pipe of indoor unit that does not operate is cooled though the combination of pipe and connecting wire is correct, check the solenoid coil. Refer to page 7. Turn the power supply. Remove solenoid coil's connector that corresponds to the indoor unit, which does not blow out cool air. Then, measure the resistance of solenoid coil. Do the resistance value normal? (Refer to page 7.) Reconnect solenoid coil's connector. Then turn the main power on and operate the indoor unit that does not blow out cool air. Measure the voltage of solenoid coil's connector that corresponds to the indoor unit, which is operated. Replace the solenoid coil. There are two types ( Refer to () and ()) of the terminal with lock mechanism. The terminal with no lock mechanism can be removed by pulling it out. Check the shape of the terminal and work. () Slide the sleeve and check if there is a locking lever or not. () The terminal with this connector is a terminal with lock mechanism Sleeve Locking lever Slide the sleeve. 22 OPERATING PROCEDURE. Removing the relay panel () Remove the cabinet. (Refer to.) () Disconnect the following connectors.. Outdoor fan motor. Solenoid coil (RB, R, R4). Removing the propeller () Remove the cabinet. (Refer to.) () Remove the propeller nut. () Remove the propeller. NOTE : Loose the propeller in the rotating direction for removal. When attaching the propeller, align the mark on the propeller and the motor shaft cut section. Set the propeller in position by using the cut on the shaft and the mark on the propeller. (9) Remove nuts fixing the compressor. (0) Remove the compressor. NOTE Before using a burner, reclaim gas from the pipes until the pressure gauge shows 0 kg/cm (0 MPa).
