6 ELECTRICAL INFORMATION FOR ALL DOUBLE-INSULATED TOOLS Double insulation is a concept in safety in electric power tools, where two systems of insulation are provided. This eliminates the need for the usual three-wire grounded power cord. All exposed metal parts are isolated from the internal metal motor components with protecting insulation. Double insulated tools do not need to be grounded. WARNING: The double insulated system is intended to protect the user from electric shock resulting from a break in the tool s internal insulation. Observe all normal safety precautions to avoid electrical shock.. POLARIZED PLUGS. To reduce the risk of electric shock, this equipment has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the extension cord, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, use a correct polarized extension cord or contact a qualified electrician to install the proper outlet. DO NOT modify the machine plug or the extension cord in any way. 2. GROUND FAULT CIRCUIT INTERRUPTER (GFCI) protection should be provided on the circuit or outlet used for this electric shredder. Receptacles are available having built-in GFCI protection and may be used for this measure of safety. 3. SERVICE AND REPAIR. To avoid danger, electrical appliances must only be repaired by qualified service technician using original replacement parts; otherwise this may result in considerable damage to the user. GUIDELINES AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR EXTENSION CORDS To prevent electric shock, Use only a UL-, CSA- or ETL-rated extension cord for outdoor, all-weather use. Do not use an extension cord over 00 ft (30m). Before use, check that the extension cord is properly wired and in good condition. When using an extension cord, make sure to use one heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw. An undersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating. The smaller the gauge number, the heavier the cord. When in doubt, use a heavier cord. The table below shows the correct size to be used according to cord length and nameplate ampere rating. REQUIRED GAUGE FOR EXTENSION CORDS AMPERAGE 25 ft. 50 ft. 00 ft. 50 ft. 5A 4 gauge 2 gauge Not Recommended by UL PROTECT YOUR EXTENSION CORDS from sharp objects, excessive heat and damp/wet areas. Always replace a damaged extension cord or have it repaired by a qualified electrician before operation. WARNING: Electric shock may cause severe injury or even death. Do not expose to rain or use in damp locations. Do not allow any part of the shredder to make contact with water while it is in operation. If the appliance becomes wet while turned off, wipe dry before starting. Do not touch the appliance or its plug with wet hands or while standing in water. Wear rubber boots to reduce the risk of electric shock. 6
