Note Notes alert you to pertinent facts and conditions. Your Barnstead Thermolyne 60 Liter Infinity Storage Reservoir has been designed with function, reliability, and safety in mind. It is your responsibility to install it in conformance with local electrical codes. For safe operation, please pay attention to the alert boxes throughout the manual. This manual contains important operating and safety information. You must carefully read and understand the contents of this manual prior to using this equipment. Water purification technology employs one or more of the following: chemicals, electrical devices, mercury vapor lamps, steam and heated vessels. Care should be taken when installing, operating or servicing Barnstead products. Warnings To avoid electrical shock: 1. Do not mount the Storage Reservoir directly over unprotected equipment that requires electrical service. Routine maintenance of this equipment may involve water spillage and subsequent electrical shock hazard if improperly located. To avoid personal injury: 1. Ensure all piping connections are tight to avoid leakage of chemicals. 2. Ensure adequate ventilation when using chemicals for cleaning. 3

5 Introduction Congratulations on your purchase of a Barnstead Thermolyne 60 Liter Infinity Storage Reservoir for your ROpure Infinity. This manual contains the information you will need to install, operate and maintain this storage reservoir. It is designed for direct connection to Barnstead s ROpure Infinity System. Introduction Please read the instructions carefully to ensure that you receive maximum benefit from it. Also, be sure to fill out and return the enclosed warranty registration card. We would like to receive the information requested, and it will help us assure you of proper warranty coverage. Should you have questions after reading the entire manual, contact your laboratory supply dealer or Barnstead Thermolyne Customer Service. General Usage This product is to be used with water feeds and specified pretreatment chemicals determined by a Barnstead water analysis. Sanitization/ cleaning agents must be used in compliance with instructions in this manual. Do not use this product for anything other than its intended usage. 5

7 Installation Caution Unpack the Storage Reservoir shipping box carefully. Note Store the supplied drain tubing and assembled coupler until you need to drain the 60 Liter Infinity Storage Reservoir. Unpacking 1. Remove all protective inserts from the shipping box. Find and remove from the shipping box a plastic bag containing the following items: drain tubing with assembled coupler, accessory outlet fitting, Ventgard cover and quick disconnect coupling. 2. Remove the wall bracket from the shipping box. It is packed separately in a plastic bag. 3. Remove the Storage Reservoir from the shipping box and place on a bench. Tubing Adapter Installation The following instructions will apply when you need to attach a piece of tubing to your 60 Liter Infinity Storage Reservoir during installation, unless otherwise noted in the installation instructions. To make tubing connections: 1. Completely disassemble the fitting. Refer to Figure 1 to familiarize yourself with the names of the component parts. Figure 1 Tubing Adapter 7

8 INSTALLATION 2. Make sure the tubing is cut off reasonably square and that no plastic burrs or ridges are present. Caution Do not use a wrench to tighten connections made with tubing adapters. Watertight connections can be made by hand. 3. Place the grab ring and backup ring in the hex nut in the order and orientation shown in Figure 1. Thread the nut into the adapter. DO NOT use the o-ring at this time. 4. Push the tubing through the nut until it bottoms out in the adapter. 5. Remove the adapter nut and tubing. Place the o-ring over the tubing. Be careful not to push the backup ring or grab ring further back on the tubing when installing the o-ring. 6. Install the hex nut on the adapter and hand tighten. Setup Connections 1. Place the 60 Liter Infinity Storage Reservoir on a bench with the back of the unit facing you. Feed from ROpure Infinity 2. Remove the large clear tank drain from the plastic bag and route to drain. Route the tubing between the reservoir and the metal case to the left of the black terminal box. Feed to NANOpure Infinity 8 Dishwasher Tank Drain 3. Locate the 1/4 O.D. tubing labeled Product tubing from ROpure Infinity to Storage. This tubing is in an accessory bag for the ROpure Infinity. Route the tubing through the opening between the metal case and the reservoir in the bottom right corner in the rear of the Storage Reservoir.

9 INSTALLATION 4. Route the tubing up the rear of the Storage Reservoir, left of the black terminal block cover. Attach the tubing to the top fitting on the Storage Reservoir. Refer to the instructions for Tubing Adapter Installation on page 6 for proper orientation of the components. 5. If you are feeding a NANOpure Infinity, locate the NANOpure feed water tubing (included with the NANOpure Infinity). Replace the tubing adapter on the feed water tubing with the quick disconnect provided in the Storage Reservoir accessory bag. Cut off the tubing adapter attached to the tubing including the grab ring/back up ring/o-ring. Discard the tubing adapter you just removed. 6. To install the quick disconnect, remove the nut on the quick disconnect tubing adapter. Slide the nut over the feed tubing. Place the hose barb into the end of the tubing. Tighten the nut onto the fitting. 7. Route the NANOpure Infinity feed tube though the opening between the metal case and reservoir in the bottom, left, rear of the Storage Reservoir and attach to the furthest left quick disconnect fitting. 8. Install the Ventgard air filter from the accessory bag over the hole in the top of the Storage Reservoir. Push down until it bottoms out. 9. At the bottom, rear of the Storage Reservoir, the plugged outlet next to the NANOpure connection is a port for a 9

10 INSTALLATION Caution Wall composition, condition and construction, as well as fastener type, must be considered when mounting this unit. The mounting surface and fasteners selected must be capable of supporting a minimum of 275 lbs. Inadequate support and/ or fasteners may result in damage to mounting surface and/or equipment. If you are unsure of mounting surface composition, condition and construction or correct fasteners, consult your building maintenance group or contractor. Warning Do not locate the 60 Liter Infinity Storage Reservoir directly over equipment that requires electrical service. Routine maintenance of this unit may involve water spillage and subsequent electrical shock hazard if improperly located. The optional pump/uv module with electronics mounts directly under the 60 liter storage reservoir. Do not use in the presence of flammable or combustible materials; fire or explosion may result. The device contains components which may ignite such materials. Note The outlet of a gravity feed storage reservoir must be above or at the same level as the inlet of the NANOpure Infinity. dishwasher feed. An accessory outlet tubing adapter is supplied in the accessory bag provides you a hookup to that port. The quick disconnect fitting to the right of the plugged port is for the drain tubing and coupler supplied in the accessory bag. This will be installed and used in the Maintenance and Servicing section. Choosing a Site The storage reservoir must be properly oriented in relationship to the ROpure Infinity to provide for fully automatic operation. The storage reservoir should be located on the right side of the ROpure Infinity leaving a space of no more than 48 inches and no less than 6 inches. Use the wall bracket for wall mounted systems as a template to drill mounting holes. Allow a minimum of 6 inches (15 cm) clearance on all sides of the unit for servicing. Bench Mounting 1. Place the 60 Liter Infinity Storage Reservoir on a bench top that is accessible to an atmospherically vented drain, and that is convenient to your work area, noting clearance requirements. Wall Mounting Install the 60 Liter Infinity Storage Reservoir on a wall in a convenient location that is accessible to an atmospherically vented drain. 10

11 INSTALLATION 1. Locate the wall bracket packed separately from the unit. 2. Using the wall bracket as a template, locate and drill the mounting holes in the wall. A minimum of four (customersupplied) fasteners will be required two on the top and two on the bottom. 3. Attach the wall bracket to the wall using the customer-supplied fasteners. 4. Remove the locking screws on each side of the wall bracket. 5. Pull the two locking slides on each side of the wall bracket out as far as they will go. 6. Hang the Storage Reservoir on the wall bracket by sliding the mounting pins into the wall bracket slots. 7. Push the locking slides on each side of the wall bracket in as far as they will go. 8. Replace the locking screws. 11

12 INSTALLATION Operation Connections Whether mounted on a bench or wall, the front of your 60 Liter Infinity Storage Reservoir should now be facing you. 1. Locate the cable labeled Storage Interlock protruding from the bottom, left, rear of the Storage Reservoir. Attach the cable to the Storage Interlock Socket on the upper left side of the ROpure Infinity, above the I/O power dswitch (power entry). 2. Connect the ROpure Infinity feed tubing from the Storage Reservoir to the Product to Storage outlet of the ROpure Infinity on the bottom right side of the ROpure. 3. Remove the plug from the Pump/Interlock socket on the NANOpure Infinity above the I/O switch. Barnstead Barnstead Barnstead 12

Take the cable labeled Pump Interlock from the bottom, right, rear of the Storage Reservoir and plug into the Pump Interlock socket of the NANOpure Infinity above the I/O power switch. Caution Do not use a wrench to tighten connections made with tubing adapters. Watertight connections can be made by hand. 5. Locate the NANOpure feed water tubing protruding from the right rear of the Storage Reservoir. Attach to the inlet of the NANOpure Infinity on the bottom, left side of the NANOpure. 6. Locate the 1/2 O.D. overflow tubing protruding from the right, rear side of the Storage Reservoir. Route the tubing to an atmospherically vented drain. Ensure there are no kinks in the tubing and that it proceeds in a downward plane. Other Accessories Optional accessories for this unit include a Sight Glass, Distribution Pump and UV Lamp. Sight Glass Assembly 1. Remove the Sight Glass Assembly (TU902X1) from the packing. Shut off power to the ROpure Infinity and, if applicable, to the NANOpure Infinity and all other external connections. 2. Drain tank and if tank is wall mounted, ensure all connections are removed before attempting to remove from the wall. Place tank on a bench. 13

14 INSTALLATION Note Instructions for installation and operation of the distribution pump and UV lamp assembly are included with the appropriate equipment. 3. Locate the drain tubing with assembled coupler provided in the reservoir s accessory bag. With the back of the unit facing you, attach the drain tubing with assembled coupler into the quick disconnect right of the plugged outlet. Route the tubing to an atmospherically vented drain. Ensure there are no kinks in the tubing and that it proceeds in a downward plane. 4. With the reservoir facing you, remove the two plugs from the right side of the reservoir. 5. Remove the nuts on the fittings on the sight glass assembly. 6. Remove the fittings from the ends of the sight glass tubing. 7. Install the fittings you just removed from the tube ends into the side of the tank, where you earlier removed the plugs. 8. Replace the sight glass tubing between the two fittings now attached to the Storage Reservoir. 9. Tighten the nuts back onto the fittings. Do not use a wrench to tighten connections made with tubing adapters. Watertight connections can be made by hand. 10. Remove drain tubing by pushing the button on the coupler to disengage it from the quick disconnect on the rear of the reservoir Reconnect power to the ROpure Infinity and NANOpure Infinity units.

15 Maintenance and Servicing General cleaning instructions Wipe exterior surfaces with a dampened cloth containing a mild soap solution. Warning Avoid splashing disinfecting solutions on clothing or skin. Ensure all piping connections are tight to avoid leakage of chemicals. Ensure adequate ventilation. Follow carefully the manufacturer s safety instructions on labels of disinfectant containers and Material Safety Data Sheets (M.S.D.S.) Reservoir Cleaning The frequency of cleaning depends on the rate and amount of contamination or build-up in the reservoir. The cleaning procedure is as follows: 1. If the storage reservoir includes connections for water distribution to other points, all connections must be disconnected and plugged. This will require draining the reservoir. Shut off power to the ROpure Infinity, connect tubing to the reservoir spigot and drain. Plug the distribution ports and restart the RO unit. 2. Once the reservoir is full, shut off power to the ROpure Infinity and, if applicable, to the NANOpure Infinity and all other external connections. 3. Draw off 1-1/2 to 2 gallons of reverse osmosis product water through the spigot. 4. Remove the Ventgard from the top of the reservoir. 5. Carefully pour 1 to 1-1/2 gallons of household bleach into the storage reservoir through the top opening. 6. Replace the Ventgard. 15

16 MAINTENANCE AND SERVICING 7. Allow the solution to remain in the reservoir for 1/2 hour. Then, drain the reservoir using the drain tubing and spigot. 8. Restore power to the ROpure Infinity. 9. Allow the reservoir to fill completely with RO product water and then drain. Repeat this step 2 to 3 times before storing and use of RO product water. 10. If applicable, reconnect all connections for water distribution to other points. Ventgard Filter Replacement The materials in the Ventgard have a limited capacity. The Ventgard should be replaced every 90 days or after 1,000 gallons have been drawn from the storage tank. A Ventgard may be stored in a cool, dry place almost indefinitely, provided the plastic bag has not been opened. Take old Ventgard off the top of the 60 liter Infinity Reservoir and install a fresh one. 16

18 Ordering Procedures Please refer to the Specification Plate for the complete model number, serial number and series number when requesting service, replacement parts or in any correspondence concerning this unit. All parts listed herein may be ordered from the Barnstead Thermolyne dealer from whom you purchased this unit or can be obtained promptly from the factory. When service or replacement parts are needed we ask that you check first with your dealer. If the dealer cannot handle your request, contact our Customer Service Department at or

19 One Year Limited Warranty Barnstead Thermolyne Corporation warrants that if a product manufactured by Barnstead Thermolyne and sold by it within the continental United States or Canada proves to be defective in material or construction, it will provide you, without charge, for a period of ninety (90) days, the labor, and a period of one (1) year, the parts, necessary to remedy any such defect. Outside the continental United States and Canada, the warranty provides, for one (1) year, the parts necessary to remedy any such defect. The warranty period shall commence either six (6) months following the date the product is sold by Barnstead Thermolyne or on the date it is purchased by the original retail consumer, whichever date occurs first. All warranty inspections and repairs must be performed by and parts obtained from an authorized Barnstead Thermolyne dealer or Barnstead Thermolyne (at its own discretion). Heating elements, however, because of their susceptibility to overheating and contamination, must be returned to our factory, and if, upon inspection, it is concluded that failure is not due to excessive high temperature or contamination, warranty replacement will be provided by Barnstead Thermolyne.
