1 GLASS 1 of 7 TYPE OF GLASS: Bottles and Jars Only! NO window glass, mirror glass, etc. COLOR: Clear, Green and Brown. PREPARATION: Remove covers and rings and discard. RINSE CLEAN. This is the most important aspect of a successful recycling program. Bottles and jars that are contaminated with food residue cannot be recycled. TIP: Many homeowners place their glass jars in the dishwasher along with their other cooking and eating utensils. Place bottles and jars in your dark green recycling bin or blue recycling bag. Avoid breakage. Place the bin or bag at the curb on the same day that your solid waste is to be collected. Pick up will be on Wednesdays for both solid waste and recyclable. 2 P.E.T. #1 PLASTIC 2 of 7 TYPE OF PLASTIC: Plastic Bottles Normally used in 2 liter soda bottles. P.E.T. bottles will carry the #1 emblem stamped or molded on the bottom. 3 H.D.P.E. #2 PLASTIC 3 of 7 TYPE OF PLASTIC: Plastic Bottles, Jugs and Wide Mouth Food Containers. This plastic is normally found in milk, water and detergent bottles and jugs. Wide mouth food containers are normally ice cream, margarine and cool whip containers. HINT: H.D.P.E. bottles, jugs and wide mouth food containers will carry the #2 emblem stamped or molded on the bottom. Some milk and water jugs carry no emblem but they are recyclable. 4 ALUMINUM BEVERAGE AND TIN CANS 4 of 7 TYPE OF ALUMINUM: Aluminum cans generally used in the beverage industry. TYPE OF TIN CANS: Tin cans generally used in the food industry. PREPARATION: Simply drain and rinse. This is the most important aspect of a successful recycling program. Aluminum beverage containers and tin containers that are contaminated with liquid or food residue cannot be recycled. Place aluminum and tin containers in your dark green recycling bin or blue recycling bag. Flattening containers is not necessary but will save space in your recycling bin or bag. Place the bin or bag at the curb on the same day that your solid waste is to be collected. Pick up will be Wednesdays for both solid waste and recyclables. 5 NEWSPRINT AND MAGAZINES 5 of 7 TYPE OF NEWSPRINT AND MAGAZINES: Basically all types of newsprint and magazines can be recycled. Waxed paper and other waxy paper goods are not accepted. Office paper and computer paper may also be recycled. PREPARATION: Tie in bundles with twine or strong string. Bundles should be limited to 8 in height. Office and computer paper may be bundled or shredded and stored in plastic see through bags. Place bundles at the curb next to the dark green recycling bin or blue recycling bag on the same day that your solid waste is to be collected. Pick up will be Wednesdays for both solid waste and recyclables. Multi-family dwellings of six or more, remember, your recycling pick up will be the 1 st and 3 rd Wednesdays of each month. NOTE: If raining on collection day, please hold papers until the following week. Next Week: Corrugated Cardboard

6 CORRUGATED CARDBOARD 6 of 7 TYPE OF CORRUGATED CARDBOARD: The cardboard that peels apart with two outside layers is corrugated. The middle section not exposed is wavy or corrugated. COLORS: Some waxed and pressed cardboard may also be recycled. PREPARATION: Flatten boxes and cut into 2 X 2 pieces. Tie in bundles with twine or strong string. Bundles should be limited to 8 in height. Place bundles at the curb next to the dark green recycling bin or blue recycling bag. Place the bin or bag at the curb on the same day that your solid waste is to be collected. Pick up will be Wednesdays for both solid waste and recyclables. 7 BATTERIES AND WASTE OIL 7 of 7 TYPE OF OIL: Automotive and small engine oil only; NO ANTI FREEZE PREPARATION: Used crankcase oil should be free from water, rags or other foreign materials. Any cost incurred for handling and managing any contaminated oil will be charged to the person disposing of the oil. Place oil in a clear plastic container with a cover and take it to the disposal site. Roger and Dan s Auto Service at 891 Fond du Lac Ave. is the disposal site for Village residents. Use a container that can be used again since disposal of containers becomes a problem. A Waste Oil Permit Slip must first be filled out prior to disposing of the waste oil. These slips are available at the Village Hall at 204 First Street. TYPE OF BATTERIES: Automotive type batteries which are of the lead acid type can be dropped off at the Transfer Station in West Bend at no charge or taken to a scrap metal dealer such as A&W Iron & Metal, 7588 Otten Drive or Lynn s Waste Paper Co., 7651 Otten Drive.
