7. Branch G is sized for WSFU Branch H is sized for WSFU Branch I is sized for WSFU Given Design minimum pressure of 65 psi, length 90, what is the minimum size for Branch I? 3/ / /2 Questions refer to the above drawing 11. Branch A is sized for WSFU Branch B is sized for WSFU
13. Branch C is sized for WSFU Branch D is sized for WSFU Branch E is sized for WSFU Branch F is sized for WSFU Branch G is sized for WSFU Branch H is sized for WSFU Branch I is sized for WSFU Branch J is sized for WSFU Given Design min. press. of 52 psi, length 75, what is the min. size for Branch J? 3/ / /2 Quiz 8 1. The maximum velocity of water in a coldwater copper pipe is per second. 3 feet 5 feet 8 feet 12 feet 15 feet 2. The maximum velocity of water in a hot water copper pipe is per second. 3 feet 5 feet 8 feet 12 feet 15 feet 3. The maximum velocity of water in a cold water PEX tube is per second. 3 feet 5 feet 8 feet 12 feet 15 feet 4. The maximum velocity of water in a hot water PEX tube is per second. 3 feet 5 feet 8 feet 12 feet 15 feet 5. Drinking water treatment units shall meet the requirements of the appropriate standard referenced in Table True False 9
6. Discharge from all drinking water treatment units shall enter the drainage system through an airgap. True False 7. The tubing to and from drinking water treatment units shall be of a size and material as recommended by the manufacturer. True False 8. The minimum size connection to a residential water softener is. 1/2 inch none of the answers provide 10
Step 1. Determine design pressure to building. Use minimum pressure at meter plus or minus elevation at 0.5 psi per foot difference. Min press (0.5 x Ft. above) = Min press + (0.5 x Ft. below) = Step 2. Table Determine the number of Cold / Hot Water WSFU for the system. TABLE WATER SUPPLY FIXTURE UNITS (WSFU) Fixture Type Fixtures Cold WSFU Total WSFU - Cold Hot WSFU Total WSFU Hot Bath Tub / Shower Shower Water Closet 2.5 Bath sink Laundry Laundry sink Clothes washer Kitchen Kitchen sink Dish washer 1.5* 1.5 Hose Bibb 2.5 Hose Bibb - Add. 1.0 Totals Important: Total System WSFU = Total Cold Water WSFU plus dishwasher WFSU Branch 1 Cold WSFU = = Hot WSFU = = Branch 2 Cold WSFU = = Hot WSFU = = Branch 3 Cold WSFU = = Hot WSFU = = Branch 4 Cold WSFU = = Hot WSFU = = Total System Demand: Total of Branch = 11
Step 3. Determine the Hot Water demand for system. This will be used in Step 8 to size the branch line to the water heater. Hot water system demand = total of hot water WSFUs from each branch. Branch 1 total of hot water WSFU = = Branch 2 total of hot water WSFU = = Branch 3 total of hot water WSFU = = Branch 4 total of hot water WSFU = = Total Hot Water Demand = Total of Branch hot WSFU = Step 4. Determine longest run of pipe to the remote outlet. (From Meter Base) Branch 1: of Cold: = of Hot: = Branch 2: of Cold: = of Hot: = Branch 3: of Cold: = of Hot: = Branch 4: of Cold: = of Hot: = Longest run to remote outlet is ft. (Branch Cold / Hot) Step 5. Determine the pressure range rows and column for the longest run. Use Table Always round up to the next vertical column of run of pipe to the remote outlet. Pressure range on Table use: (cycle one) psi psi Over 60 psi Max allowable length column use: (cycle one) Step 6. Size supply to meter and to building. Use Table Read down to column until the minimum number of fixtures that were determined in Step 2 is found. Read Minimum Size Supply to Meter and to Building from far left column of table. Use: Meter size 3/4 Building Supply size 3/4 1 11/4 Use: Meter size 1 Building Supply size 1 11/4 11/2 2 Use: Meter size 1 1/2 Building Supply size 11/4 11/2 2 Use: Meter size 2 Building Supply size 11/2 2 2 ½ 12
Step 7. Sizing branches. Calculate branch demand WSFU for both the cold and hot water. Longest run to remote Outlet from Step 4 and the appropriate pressure rows, read down the column to the total WSFU for that branch. The far left column will show the minimum branch size. Note that the branch size does NOT need to be larger than the building service size. Branch 1: (cold water WSFU) + (hot water WSFU) = total: size Branch 2: (cold water WSFU) + (hot water WSFU) = total: size Branch 3: (cold water WSFU) + (hot water WSFU) = total: size Branch 4: (cold water WSFU) + (hot water WSFU) = total: size Step 8. Size supply ONLY to water heater. Size the pipe to Water Heater using Total Hot Water WSFU from Step 3. Total system hot water WSFU = total: size 13
