1 Theta Optical Tensiometer Modules and Accessories Theta optical tensiometer is modular: you can choose exactly the features that you require for your studies. The minimun setup requires one choice from each of the module categories of camera, sample stage, liquid dispenser and liquid dispenser motion. Module choices range from camera speeds to manual or motorized movements. Available accessories add measurement types, control temperature or allow improved measurements. Attension offers also ready-made Theta packages with pre-selected modules adapted to different needs. For more information on those packages please contact your nearest sales representative. 2 I - Mandatory modules Module A: Cameras & Optics 60 fps digital video camera with zoom I ref. T With imaging speed 60 frames per second (fps) and 640 x 480 resolution. Includes zoom lens magnification. 420 fps digital video camera with zoom I ref. T With nominal imaging speed 100 fps with a 656 x 491 resolution, actual imaging speed 130 full frames and up to 420 fps with a 512 x 150 resolution. Includes zoom lens magnification fps high speed digital video camera with zoom I ref. T With nominal imaging speed 1550 fps with a 640 x 336 resolution. Includes zoom lens magnification. Module C: Liquid Dispenser Holder And Its Motion Liquid dispenser holder with manual movements I ref. T221 Enables quick and easy manual drop deposition with a simple push of the trigger. The liquid dispenser holder allows vertical and lateral manual movements. Designed to be used with precision syringe and needle package C205M or liquid dispenser C201 (other liquid dispensers cannot be used). Liquid dispenser holder with motorized vertical movement I ref. T301 For all dispensers. Enabling motorized vertical movement of the liquid dispenser and automatic drop placement on the substrate. When combined with an automated dispenser and a motorized sample stage fully software controlled measurements are possible. Suitable for any liquid dispenser with easy switch between dispensers if using several. Module B: Sample Stages Manual XYZ sample stage I ref. T310 Sample stage with manual precision x-y-z movement. Motorized X sample stage (YZ manual) I ref. T320 Sample stage with motorized lateral movement (X-axis). Drop samples can be placed at desired intervals to test several locations of one substrate (programmable). When combined with an automated dispenser and motorized vertical liquid dispenser motion, fully software controlled measurements are possible. Motorized movement range 150 mm. Movement resolution 0.1mm. Motorized XYZ sample stage ref. T330 Motorized XYZ sample stage I ref. T330 Sample stage with motorized X-Y-Z movement. Drop samples can be placed at desired locations to test any location of one substrate. When combined with an automated dispenser and motorized vertical liquid dispenser motion, fully software controlled measurements are possible. It is possible to program deposition sequences along the X axis. Motorized movement ranges: X = 180 mm, Y = 60 mm, Z = 30 mm. Movement resolution 0.01mm. Motorized X sample stage ref. 3 Module D: Liquid Dispensers Manual single liquid dispenser syringe and needle package I ref. C205M Hamilton 1 ml continuously adjustable precision syringe with gauge 22 needle for both dispenser holders T221 and T301. Automatic single liquid dispenser I ref. C201 Automated liquid dispensing. Comes with Hamilton 1 ml syringe C205A with tubing and dispensing needle C Dispensing resolution 0.1µl. Enables dynamic contact angle measurements. When combined with a motorized sample stage and motorized vertical liquid dispenser movement, fully software controlled measurements are possible. For both liquid dispenser holders T221 and T301. Automatic single liquid dispenser using disposable pipette tips I ref. C & ref. C Automatic single liquid dispenser for disposable pipette tips of 1000µl and 200µl nominal dispensing volumes. The actual maximum dispensing volumes are 700µl and 140µl and dispensing resolutions are ±0.7µl and ±0.2µl respectively. Comes with 96- rack of appropriate polypropylene tips. Enables dynamic contact angle measurements. Requires motorized vertical liquid dispenser movement T301 (cannot be used with T221). When combined with a motorized sample stage fully software controlled measurements are possible. Automatic multi-liquid dispenser I ref. T314 Motorized syringe pump for four 1 ml syringes enabling automated dispensing of the desired liquid. Dispensing resolution 0.1µl. Vessels, pump, tubing and needle array included. Enables dynamic contact angle measurements. Requires motorized up/down liquid dispenser movement T301 (cannot be used with T221). When combined with a motorized sample stage fully software controlled measurements are possible. Recommended for surface free energy studies and other studies where multiple liquids are used. 4 II - Accessories 1. 3D Topography Module 3D Topography module I ref. T316 A module for 3D and 2D surface roughness characterization. Makes it possible to perform topography measurement from the same sample location than contact angle measurement. OneAttension software automatically calculates the roughness corrected contact angle and surface free energy values. Motorized XYZ sample stage required. Dispenser Topography module Convex sample holder I ref. T315C A convex sample holder to improve image quality especially in picolitre drop measurements. A paper or other flexible sample is fitted into the convex holder Sample holder for horizontal single fiber I ref. T315D Sample holder for easy picoliter drop placement on a single fiber or hair placed horizontally. The minimum fiber lenght is 25 mm. Camera for contact angle measurement Motorized XYZ sample stage 2. Picoliter Dispenser Screw/unscrew to hold or free the fiber Expandable to fit different enghts Picoliter dispenser I ref. T315A A single liquid dispenser for nano- and picoliter drops of volume range* from 20 to 380 pl and viscosity range** from 0.4 to 20 mpas. The dispenser is connected to the Theta for direct control over the drop dispensing from the Theta Software. The picoliter dispenser includes a control unit equipped with a touch screen which provides control over the dispenser heating, the drop velocity and the drop volume. In addition to the dispenser head, it also includes additional optics and light source for improved image quality, a calibration tool and necessary connection cables. Possibility to choose dispenser head with different nozzle size to obtain required drop sizes: please note that the smallest nozzle sizes do not allow the use of a nozzle heater (T315B). A convex sample holder (T315C) is recommended to improve the image quality of picoliter drop measurements. 3. Tilting Cradle And Related Items Tilting cradle I ref. C204A A software controlled tilting cradle. Used for studying dynamic contact angles. Tilting range from 0 to 90o, tilting resolution 0.1o. The vacuum stage top (C204B) is highly recommended to be used with this option. Vacuum stage top I ref. C204B A vacuum operated sample stage top, used to fix a substrate in place while tilting. 5 4. Measuring Chambers, Temperature Control And Anti-Vibration Systems Active vibration isolation system small I ref. AVS-SMALL The active vibration isolation system eliminate disturbing vibrations caused by motors and machine tools, air conditioning systems, etc. It is especially recommeded to prevent influence of vibrations in pendant drop measurements. It includes two long isolation elements, an external controller, a breadboard table and necessary mechanics. Note: The Pt-100 measurment probe (TCP) is recommended to control the temperature in the chamber rather than the temperature of the water bath. Liquid/liquid measuring chamber, room temperature I ref. C217 Liquid/liquid measuring chamber for room temperature measurements. Can be used for liquid/liquid contact angle studies. Liquid/liquid measuring chamber, water bath heated 100 C I ref. C217W Thermostatted water bath liquid/liquid measuring chamber. Can be used for liquid/liquid contact angle studies. Requires water bath (e.g. T102MC). Note: The Pt-100 measurment probe (TCP) is recommended to control the temperature in the chamber rather than the temperature of the water bath.
