3 Safety instructions Always transport the device in an right position and protect it from impact. Always operate the device on a level surface, using a vibration-free base, Avoid draughts. Never touch the (luminous) heater when it is hot, as there is a risk of injury!! Always disconnect the plug from the mains sply before performing any work on the device (e. g. changing the heater)! Repairs should only be carried out by a qualified technician.! Do not place any flammable substances next to the device. Fire hazard! Please take extra care when using flammable samples! You may need to contact the manufacturer for advice.! Please ensure that no sample spills drip over the edge of the tray sport plate. Use a vacuum cleaner to carefully remove particles. Only use accessories specifically designed for use with ULTRA X devices. Do not move the device while it is measuring, as this could cause measuring errors. Do not leave any substances in the weighing pan, if they are not for measurement. Goods should only be shipped in the original packaging using the original packaging material. ULTRA X moisture analysers are stand-alone devices and not suitable for use in continuous production runs. Any such use is at your own risk. info@apinstruments.de, Internet: Seite 3

Please only use the original packaging when returning the goods. Accessories splied: 3081 Tray carrier 2 trays Sample tongs Mains cable Start- für x Place the device on a stable, vibration-free surface, as level as possible and protected from draughts. The most suitable locations are the corners of a room, rooms with only one entrance and heavy tables on concrete floors (not for ULTRA X 3081) First adjust the heater to the correct height. To do this, place the level gauge next to the reflector pan on the device. Now adjust the height of the reflector so that its lower edge is in line with the top surface of the rod. Quartz heaters should be 10 mm higher. To do this, slightly loosen (never completely unscrew) the knurled screw on the back of the reflector holder. Retighten the knurled screw manually. 65 mm 75 mm 1. 3 C Now swing the heater to the right or backwards to its rearmost position. Do not use force to twist the heater beyond its stop point, as this could damage the device. UX info@apinstruments.de, Internet: Seite 4
5 1. 4. Now place one of the two drying trays splied on the tray carrier using one or two s of tongs. The notch in the reflector tray acts as an access gap for easy positioning of the tray Check that the voltage indicated on the type plate matches the voltage at the installation site The power cable is inserted into the device s power jack and a suitable earthed mains sply. After the power sply has been connected, the device can be switched on or off using the main switch on the rear cover. After the device has been switched on, it may take to 30 secs before the weight readout is displayed In order to prevent weighing system measuring errors, the device should be switched on 20 minutes before being used to allow for heat compensation. If weight values vary in the display s milligram range during this period, this is considered normal within this phase. If the device is switched off using the on/ off button, it does not require a warm- period if switched on again with the same button ULTRA X moisture analysers are splied, so that in most cases substances can be measured immediately. If you are not satisfied with the result, the measurement parameters can be differently: Loading the printing paper Remove the top cover. To do this, press the printer cover. Insert the paper into the metal slot beneath the printer ribbon and press and hold the linefeed button until approx. 20 mm has been inserted. Now thread the paper through the slot in the printer cover and secure the printer cover. Changing the printer ribbon Remove the printer cover. To do this, press on the rear of the printer. Remove the used ribbon and insert a new ribbon. You may need to turn the scroll wheel in the direction of the arrow until the ribbon cartridge is positioned correctly. The ribbon must be in front of the paper. Now secure the printer cover. info@apinstruments.de, Internet: Seite 5

7 Temperature control.. Value is stored.. Value is stored: Automatic shut-off or r The automatic system dries the sample until a constant weight is reached and then switches off the heater. The following tings can be defined here: Parameters can behere: 1. Weight loss in mg a value should be defined here which corresponds to approx. 0.1 % of the original sample weight e.g. 10 g original sample weight 10 mg If the weight loss is <= the mg value displayed here within the interval period shown below, thedevice stops measuring, if the minimum for the query has expired 2. Query interval in sec an interval should be selected here, so that the period for drying the sample is not too short, but also not too long. A period of 20 to 30 secs is normally adequate. info@apinstruments.de, Internet: Seite 7
8 3. Start of query in min Specify the drying period required for the samples without the automatic system being activated. The factory- 3 minutes are usually adequate. This value should be increased for extremely low temperatures, so that the device does not switch itself off too early. This affects the UX 3031 in particular, when free moisture is being measured at 45 C. The next menu option or r is now displayed. Values for the infra-red heater and quartz heater (UX3031 only) are entered separately. Both heaters can be controlled separately via an automatic ting or the r. It is possible to select a drying of to 180 minutes. as shown for infra-red heaters. Measurement unit During measurement, the device optionally displays: % moisture % dry matter (TS) % moisture Atro ( ), i.e. moisture related to the dry matter Dry matter (TS) in g/1000g Weight loss g (V) Residual weight g (R) info@apinstruments.de, Internet: Seite 8

Swing the heater over the sample (for UX 3081 use heater switch) After a short, the heater switches itself on and the drying phase begins. Header data is printed in advance for devices with a built-in printer. The sample is dried until it has reached a constant weight; the heater is then switched off automatically. The and measurement value is printed for devices with a printer. If you do not wish to make any measurements, please always ensure that the heater has been swung back to its rearmost position! 3. Measurement values are displayed for the entire length of the heater is positioned above the sample. During the measuring process, the device should not be moved as this causes measurement errors. The built-in printer prints the following at the start of the measurement process: Model, device ID date,, heater temperature, r, initial weight And once the measurement process is complete, after the heater has been swung back: Measurement value, measurement, date, substance signum Please ensure drying trays have cooled before using for measurement. If the measurement process ends before it is complete, the display shows: with For substances which are difficult to remove from the tray, we recommend using aluminium foil trays, which can be made quickly and cheaply with the ULTRA X foil press. info@apinstruments.de, Internet: Seite 12
