2 Why Express Boom Assembly? UPDATE OLD STYLE POLY BOOM TO ENHANCED STAINLESS BOOM Eliminate warping with a stainless steel pipe: Many of today s sprayers are equipped with Black Poly Pipe on the spray booms. Exposure to long periods of summer sun and chemicals can cause damage. Over time, soft poly pipes will sag and allow pooling inside of the boom pipe. Low spots in the boom pipe can inhibit efficient flow through the boom pipe and make a boom harder to flush. The Express Boom Assembly features a Schedule Stainless Steel pipe that eliminates the ability to warp. New nozzle bodies and express fittings: The refreshed boom plumbing includes all new nozzle bodies and Express Fittings. The Express fittings and the optimized design allow for improved sprayer performance. Improve shutoff times with Express End Caps and eliminate chemical contamination: Upgrading to Stainless Steel Express Booms will dramatically improve nozzle shut-off times by eliminating trapped air. With the Express End Caps on each end of the boom, the shut off delay can be reduced up to 0- seconds. (Technical Assistance is available a ) CONVERTING FROM A DRY BOOM SPRAYER Many of the older Trailer Sprayers in the field have the DRY BOOM set-ups. Upgrading to the Express Booms converts the sprayer to a WET BOOM set-up. This will improve sprayer performance as it includes Express End Caps for air elimination and boom pipe flush. LOW COST OPTION TO UPDATE YOUR SPRAYER The Express Boom Assembly simplifies the manufacturing process and supply chain by reducing labor, assembly time and product numbers.it eliminates the need to stock component parts such as pipes, fittings, or nozzle bodies, by providing package options that make it convenient for standard shipping methods. 3 Old Style Poly Boom vs. Express Boom Express Boom 6 Poly Boom (Old Style) POLY BOOM - OLD STYLE Warping of the boom causes inefficient and ineffective spray applications. Chemistry, sunlight, and hot summer temperatures will cause the black poly pipe to swell, sag and distort. The spray nozzles attached to the pipe are distorted or Torqued out of specification. Air can also be trapped in the low spots. (Similar to a plumbers P-Trap). This can cause slow shut-off times and delayed start up times when spraying. (Item ) Leak points from threaded fittings. Warped poly pipes can increase the chance of leaks at threaded connections. The Express Booms are equipped with the NEW Flanged Fittings that provide leak-proof connections. (Item ) Torqued nozzle bodies give off-target applications. As the poly pipe distorts and twists, the torqued nozzle bodies can shift and direct away from the specific target. The result of this is improper spray coverage and overlap. Many new spray techniques are being adopted and changes to the boom spacing is key to these new spray techniques. Dead End spaces allow chemical residue to build up at the ends of the boom pipe. Poly pipes absorb spray chemistry that make it difficult to completely clean out, which increases the chance of cross contamination when changing chemicals. (Item ) Page

4 Express End Cap - Improved Shut-off Time ISSUE WITH CONVENTIONAL BOOMS Trapped air in the boom will cause shut off lag. Every time you empty the spray tank, change products or flush the system, then refill the sprayer, air gets trapped in the boom lines. This trapped air causes a delayed response in nozzle shut off (up to seconds in some cases). Shut-off lag can cause overspray on unintended areas such as: grassy waterways, overlaps, end rows and boundary areas. The operator must allow for shut off lag time when turning on field ends or crossing grass waterways. SOLUTION - EXPRESS END CAP Passive feature eliminates the trapped air by allowing the air to escape through the nozzle body. Trapped air rises to the top of the boom pipes. Express End Cap vents the air out through the nozzle body when the boom is pressurized. Page

5 Express End Cap - Boom Hygiene and Removal of Dead Ends In traditional booms, there is a section of pipe at the end of the boom, Dead End Zones (Fig.), that allow chemical contaminate to build up (Fig. ). Express Booms with Express End Caps removes these Dead End Zones by putting the last nozzle body at the end of the pipe. A removable plug (Fig. ) is also placed at the end to allow better flow and flushing through the nozzle bodies, and eliminates the risk of chemical build up in the boom pipe. In result of this, when you go from one type of herbicide to another, there will be a lower risk of field streaking due to chemical contamination (Fig. ). 6 Easy-to-Use Express Boom Configurator Opportunity With Express Booms, you can specify nozzle spacing to take advantage of new spray techniques. Over the years, 0 spacing has been very common on sprayers. Changing to spacing enables more spray pattern overlap which increases coverage. It also enables spraying over and between 0 rows when using drops. Solution: Whether its or 0 spacing, the express boom assembly can meet the needs of the grower. You can create varied configurations with the Hypro Express Boom Configurator. Spray Booms are laid out by the manufacturers to optimize folding and storage. The Boom Configuration Tool allows you to re-create the exact layout of your old boom to the NEW Express Boom System. To use the configurator tool, you will simply enter the plumbing configuration and it will select boom pipe part numbers for you to order. It allows OEM s to focus on machine assembly, and minimizes the assembly for the customer. What are the standard replacement parts for the boom assembly? - Express End Cap, Express Tee, ProFlo Nozzle Body Series. Do the boom assembly sections fit into existing boom structures on the sprayer? The boom assembly concept was designed to be a modular product. Boom sections can -vary in length and configuration to meet any existing boom structure. It is common that replacement of aged boom plumbing will be required and the ability to purchase tested and pre-fabricated boom sections will eliminate many concerns. Standard products will be available for tailored configurations and off-the-shelf applications. Spec products will be tailored to meet a specific boom design; part numbers and prints will be generated for these configurations and provided to the customer. Common Terms On-Center: Boom space alignment starting with the nozzle body at the center of the sprayer. Generally with Spacing. Off-Center: Boom space alignment starting with nozzle bodies that are equally offset from the center of the sprayer. Generally with 0 Spacing. Over the Row: Current practice is to plant 0 rows, therefore spacing aligns spray patterns on and in between each row. This is why growers use Express Boom to change from 0 to spacing. Between the Row: Spraying between crop rows. Also refers to nozzle position on the boom to spray between rows. Schedule tubing: Thin walled tubing or boom pipe.
