5 Introduction The new Griller Microwave Oven is a versatile appliance for any kitchen. The Easy-Set Control Dial menu system automatically leads you through each step of the cooking process. Features and Benefits: Grilling - The oven features 1,200-watt grilling power that generates radiant heat to brown the exterior of food. Auto Grill/Manual Grill - The oven offers the option of using automatic or manual grilling. Automatic grilling allows you to select the correct food type from a pre-programmed menu. Manual grilling allows you to specify the amount of time you wish to grill. Sensor Cook - Microwave oven automatically adjusts the cooking time to various types and amounts of food. Easy-Set Control Dial - You can make selections on the oven by turning the dial and pressing it. Control Lock-Out - Locks the control panel to prevent the oven from being accidently started. 5

8 Auto Grill 1. Place grill tray and rack on the turntable. Place the food on the tray and close the door. Press the AUTO GRILL button Turn and press the dial to select the FOOD TYPE (Beef/Pork/Poultry/ Seafood). When the FOOD TYPE has been selected, turn the dial to select the specific food. When the food selection has been entered, USE GRILL TRAY AND RACK will be displayed to remind you that you must use these when cooking with Auto Grill. 6. Press the START/PAUSE button and the grill time will be displayed. 7. If the food must be turned during cooking, a signal will sound once and TURN FOOD will be displayed until the dial or button is pressed, or the door is opened. When the door is open, PAUSE and the remaining grill time will be displayed. 8. Press the dial or the START/PAUSE button. Cooking will resume and the time countdown will be displayed. Note: You may change the cook time at any time during cooking by turning the dial. Manual Grill 1. Placing the grill tray and rack on the turntable is optional. Place food on the tray and close the door. Press the MANUAL GRILL button. Turn and press the dial to enter the desired grill time. 4. Press the START/PAUSE. 5. If the door is opened, PAUSE and the remaining grill time will be displayed. 6. Press the dial or the START/PAUSE button. 9 Combo Grill 1. Placing the grill tray and rack on the turntable is optional. Place food on the tray and close the door. Press the COMBO GRILL button. 4. Turn and press the dial to enter the FOOD TYPE and grill time. The cooking combination COMBO 1 or COMBO 2 is automatically determined by the food selection. When the food type is selected, the preset time will be displayed. You can rotate the dial to adjust the cooking time as desired. 5. Press the START/PAUSE button. 6. If the food must be turned during cooking, a signal will sound once and TURN FOOD will be displayed until the dial or button is pressed, or the door is opened. 14 Components Oven Removal The oven is hooked on metal tabs at the bottom of the wall mounting plate and fastened to the cabinet with 3 top cabinet bolts. Remove 8 Phillips-head screws from the top of the oven. Bracket To remove the oven from the cabinet or wall opening: WARNING: This oven requires 2 people for complete oven removal. 1. power to the oven. For top-vented models, disconnect the duct and remove the damper assembly. Remove the 3 top cabinet bolts. 4. Remove 3 Phillips-head screws from the back of the oven. Caution: When removing the oven, be sure to provide adequate support to prevent dropping the unit. 4. Pull the unit forward slowly. View From Rear 5. Remove 8 Phillips-head screws from the bottom of the oven. Outer Cover To gain access to many of the oven components, it is necessary to remove the outer cover. To remove the outer cover: 1. Remove the oven. (See Oven Removal.) Remove 1 Phillips-head screw from the bracket that holds the power cord in place. Remove the bracket. 6. Slide the outer cover to the rear of the oven and remove. 14
15 Vent Blower The three-speed vent blower can be directed upward, to the rear, or re-circulated into kitchen after installing the charcoal filter kit (part numberwb02x10943). The vent blower is located on the top rear of the microwave oven. See installation instructions for the proper method of directing the vent fan prior to installing unit. To remove the vent blower: 1. Remove the oven. (See Oven Removal.) 4. Lift out the vent blower and place it on top of the oven. the electrical connector to the vent blower. Electrical Connector View From Rear Remove 3 Phillips-head screws on the top of the oven that hold the exhaust adapter in place, then slide the exhaust adapter to the rear and remove. View From Rear Interior Light The interior light bulb is 12 VAC, 20 watt (part number WB36X10176). To remove the interior light: Remove the Phillips-head screw on the back of the oven holding the vent blower in place. 1. Remove 2 Phillips-head screws from the top of the oven that attach the grill assembly to the oven and remove the grill. Grill Assembly View From Rear Remove the Phillips-head screw that attaches the interior light assembly to the top of the microwave oven. 15 (Continued next page)
16 Lift the light assembly up to expose the interior light bulb. 4. Pull gently to remove the bulb. Smart Board To remove the smart board: 1. Remove the control panel assembly. (See Control Panel Assembly.) Pull the knob straight out and off of the control board. Bulb Knob Control Panel Assembly The control panel assembly consists of a smart board, metal frame, touch pad/escutcheon, and a knob. (4 parts) To remove the control panel assembly: 1. power to the microwave oven. Remove 2 Phillips-head screws from the top of the microwave that attach the grill assembly to the oven and remove the vent. the touch panel ribbon from the smart board. 4. Remove 8 Phillips-head screws that attach the smart board to the control board frame and lift the smart board off the frame. Grill Assembly Remove the Phillips-head screw that attaches the control panel to the oven and pull the control panel up and out to remove. 4. Mark and disconnect all the wiring harnesses to the smart board. 16
17 Griller Element The griller element is located on the top, left side of the oven, inside the oven cavity. The griller element operates on 120 VAC, is rated at 1200 watts, and draws 10 amps. 4. Remove two 9/32-in. hex nuts from the griller element. View From Left Side To check continuity of heater element, place meter leads: L1 in at the fuse board (black wire). Yellow wire to the heater relay on the control board. Resistance should be approximately 11.5Ω. Note: Door needs to be closed to perform check. 5. Open the oven door, and remove 2 Phillips-head screws that attach the griller element to the top of the oven and remove the element. To remove the griller element: 1. Remove the outer cover. (See Outer Cover.) wiring to the griller element. View From Left Side Using a small flat blade screwdriver, pry up the four tabs that attach the griller element cover to the oven. Bottom Thermal Cutout (TCO) The bottom TCO is located on the bottom, right side of the oven behind the control panel. The bottom TCO is not resettable. The bottom TCO has a temperature rating of 302 F. To remove the bottom TCO: Tab Tab Tab 1. Remove the control panel assembly. (See Control Panel Assembly.) wiring to the bottom TCO. Tab Remove the Phillips-head screw attaching the bottom TCO to the oven and pull the TCO forward to remove. 17
18 Magnetron Thermal Cutout (TCO) The magnetron TCO is located on the magnetron and opens when the magnetron temperature reaches 302 F. The magnetron TCO is a normally closed switch. An open reading across the TCO indicates a failed TCO. The magnetron TCO is not resettable. To remove the magnetron TCO: Hood Thermostat The hood thermostat is a single pole thermostat mounted on the base plate. The contacts close at approximately 133 F. These contacts, when closed, energize the vent fan. To remove the hood thermostat: 1. Remove the control panel assembly. (See Control Panel Assembly.) 1. Remove the control panel assembly. (See Control Panel Assembly.) the wiring to the magnetron TCO. Remove the Phillips-head screw and the magnetron TCO from the magnetron. wiring to the hood thermostat. Remove the Phillips-head screw attaching the hood thermostat to the oven and pull the thermostat forward to remove. Heater Thermal Cutout (TCO) The heater TCO is located on the top side of the oven cavity. The heater TCO is not resettable. The heater TCO has a temperature rating of 302 F. To remove the heater TCO: 1. Remove the outer cover. (See Outer Cover.) wiring to the heater TCO. Remove 2 Phillips-head screws attaching the heater TCO to the oven and lift the TCO to remove. Oven Thermal Cutout (TCO) The oven TCO is located on the top side of the oven cavity beside the exhaust duct. The oven TCO is not resettable. The oven TCO has a temperature rating of 293 F. To remove the oven TCO: 1. Remove the outer cover. (See Outer Cover.) wiring to the oven TCO. Remove 2 Phillips-head screws attaching the oven TCO to the oven and lift the TCO to remove. 18
19 Stirrer Assembly The stirrer assembly consists of a blade, pin, and cover. The blade is air driven and rotates on a shaft embedded in the stirrer cover. The stirrer assembly is located at the top of the oven cavity. To remove the stirrer: 1. power to the microwave oven and open the door. Check to make sure the fuse is not open. Check the noise filter for approximate resistance value at the following locations: White (neutral input) to white (neutral output) - 0 Ω. Black (line input) to black (line output) - 0 Ω. White (neutral input) to black (line input) - 23 Ω. Remove 2 Phillips-head screws from the stirrer cover. Rotate the stirrer cover forward and remove the stirrer cover. Line Fuse Note: When the 20-amp fuse is blown due to operation of the monitor switch, the monitor switch must be replaced. Also replace the relays and/or the interlock switches when the continuity check shows the contacts are shorted. The unit is equipped with a 20-amp fuse (part number WB27X10928). The fuse is located in a receptacle near the top of the noise filter and is common to all functions and door switches. To remove the fuse: Noise Filter The noise filter helps to suppress electromagnetic interference (EMI) radiating from the operation of the oven and also protects the oven from any line noise. The noise filter is located on the right side of the oven behind the control panel. The noise filter is held in place by two Phillips-head screws. The filter assembly board can be accessed by removing the control panel. The outer cover does not need to be removed. 1. Remove the control panel assembly. (See Control Panel Assembly.) Remove the fuse. Fuse Note: When installing the noise filter, ensure all filter wiring is connected to the correct terminals. Screw Noise Filter Screw 19
20 Humidity Sensor The humidity sensor detects humidity changes during sensor cook functions and transmits this information to the smart board. Magnetron WARNING: Prior to servicing the magnetron, be certain the capacitor is discharged. Manually discharge by placing an insulated-handle screwdriver between the diode connection of the capacitor and the oven chassis ground. To check continuity of cooling fan, place meter leads: L1 in at the fuse board (black wire). Pink wire to pin #7 of CN1 on the control board. Resistance should be approximately 43Ω. Note: Door needs to be closed to perform check. To remove the magnetron: 1. Remove the control panel assembly. (See Control Panel Assembly.) wiring to the magnetron. Using a 1/4-in. drive socket wrench, short extension, 1/4-in. socket, and a #2 Phillips bit, remove the 3 Phillips-head screws that attach the magnetron to the oven. To remove the humidity sensor: 1. Remove the outer cover. (See Outer Cover.) 4. the humidity sensor wire connector from the control board. (See Control Boards and Panel Connectors.) Remove the Phillips-head screw attaching the humidity sensor to the duct assembly. Remove the Phillips-head screw that attaches the ground wire to the microwave and lift the humidity sensor to remove. View From Right Side 20 (Continued next page)
21 4. Remove the magnetron through the control panel opening. Cooling Fan and Motor The cooling fan and motor are located on the right side of the microwave oven. To remove the cooling fan and motor: 1. Remove the control panel assembly. (See Control Panel Assembly.) Remove the magnetron. (See Magnetron.) Using pliers, remove the fan retainer from the fan motor shaft. Vent Fan Motor Capacitor The vent fan motor capacitor is located on the top of the oven above the cooling fan. The motor capacitor is rated at 10 μf. To remove the vent fan motor capacitor: Fan Retainer 1. Remove the outer cover. (See Outer Cover.) wiring to the motor condenser. Remove the Phillips-head screw that attaches the motor capacitor to the oven. 4. Carefully pull the fan off of the fan motor shaft. 5. Remove 3 Phillips-head screws that attach the fan motor to the duct assembly. 6. wiring to the fan motor. 7. Remove the fan motor through the control panel opening. 21
22 Capacitor and Diode The capacitor has an internal shunt resistor to automatically discharge the capacitor when the oven turns "off". Under normal operation, the capacitor should fully discharge within 30 seconds. WARNING: Always be certain the capacitor is discharged before servicing. Mechanically discharge the capacitor by placing an insulated-handle screwdriver between the diode connection of the capacitor and the oven chassis ground. Note: Use the screw head close to the capacitor to ensure ground metal contact. To remove the capacitor and diode: 1. Remove the control panel assembly. (See Control Panel Assembly.) wiring to the high voltage capacitor. High Voltage Transformer The high voltage transformer is located on the right side of the microwave oven, beneath the magnetron. WARNING: Prior to servicing the transformer, be certain the capacitor is discharged. Manually discharge by placing an insulated-handle screwdriver between the diode connection of the capacitor and the oven chassis ground. To remove the high voltage transformer: 1. Remove the control panel assembly. (See Control Panel Assembly.) wiring to the high voltage transformer. wiring to the magnetron thermostat. 4. 23 5. the wiring harnesses to the turntable motor and the cooktop lamp. 12-Volt Light Transformer The 12-volt light transformer is located on the right side of the microwave oven, above the magnetron. To remove the transformer: 1. Remove the outer cover. (See Outer Cover.) the transformer wiring harness. 6. Remove 4 Phillips-head screws that attach the high voltage transformer to the bottom plate. View From Right Side 7. Remove the high voltage transformer through the control panel opening. Remove the 2 Phillips-head screws that attach the low voltage transformer to the microwave oven and lift the transformer to remove. 23
24 Door Interlock Switches The door has 3 interlock switches. All switches are removed the same way. Remove the 2 Phillips-head screws that attach the door switch bracket to the microwave oven frame and remove the door switch bracket. Door Sensing and Primary Interlock Switches The power relay is mounted on the smart board. The primary interlock and door sensing switches are activated by the latch heads on the door. When the door is opened, the switches interrupt the circuit to all components, except the oven lamp and the control panel display. A cook cycle cannot take place until the door is firmly closed, thereby activating both interlock switches. The primary interlock system consists of the door sensing switch, the primary interlock switch, and the power relay. Monitor Switch Primary Monitor The monitor switch is operated indirectly by the bottom latch pawl. The pawl operates a cam switch, which in turn, activates the monitor switch. The switch is intended to render the oven inoperative by means of blowing the monitor fuse when the contacts of the primary interlock switch and power relay fail to open when the door is opened. Functions When the door is opened, the monitor switch is closed. At this time, the primary interlock switch and the power relay are open. As the door goes to a closed position, the monitor switch is first open and then the door sensing switch and the primary interlock switch contacts close. To remove the door interlock switches: Door Sensing 4. Using a small flat blade screwdriver, release the tabs and remove the door interlock switch from the door switch bracket. Tab 1. 25 Turntable Motor The turntable motor is located on the bottom of the microwave oven. Door Assembly The door is available as a complete assembly or as individual parts. To remove the turntable motor: 1. Remove 8 Phillips-head screws from the bottom of the microwave oven cabinet. the wiring harness to the turntable motor. Remove the 2 Phillips-head screws attaching the turntable motor to the microwave oven and remove the turntable motor. A microwave leakage test must be performed any time a door is removed, replaced, disassembled, or adjusted for any reason. The maximum leakage is 4 MW/CM 2. (See Microwave Leakage Test.) To remove the door, first remove the grill assembly. Lift the door up and disengage from the hinge pins. Pin Pin 25
26 Surface Lamp Assemblies The surface lamp assemblies are located on the bottom of the microwave oven. To remove the surface lamp assemblies: 1. Remove the Phillips-head screw from the surface lens panel on the bottom of the microwave oven cabinet and open the panel. Surface Lamps The surface lamp is a 12VAC, 10 watt lamp (part number WB36X10177). To remove the surface lamps: 1. Remove the Phillips-head screw from the surface lens panel on the bottom of the microwave oven cabinet and open the panel. Remove 2 Phillips-head screws (1 on each side) from the lamp socket. Carefully pull the halogen bulb out of the socket. Bulb Lift the lamp assembly up and out of the oven. 26

29 Microwave Leak Test Turn ON for 5-minute test. Hold the probe perpendicular to the surface being tested. Scan surfaces at the rate of one inch per second. Test the following areas: Entire perimeter of the door and control panel Viewing surface of the door window Exhaust vents 6. Maximum leakage is 4 MW/CM 2. Note: Place 275 ml water in 600 ml beaker. (Part # WB64 x 5010) Place beaker in the center of the oven glass. Set meter to 2450 MHz scale. Maximum allowable leakage is 5 MW/CM 2. Four MW/CM 2 is used to allow for measurement and meter accuracy. Inform the manufacturer of any oven found to have emission in excess of 5 MW/CM 2. Instruct the owner not to use the oven until it has been brought into compliance. Control Operation Test Set Clock: Touch the clock pad, enter time of day, AM/PM, and touch start pad. Alternately touch each function pad and enter time or temperature and selection for the function - also change power levels. Touch Clear-Off after each function test to clear that function. Repeat procedure for each function to exercise each pad. The control and display should respond to each entry. The display should revert to Time-Of-Day after each Clear-Off. Refer results to the diagnosis flow chart. Door/Cavity Distance Test When safety interlocks and monitor switches are repaired or replaced, check the distance between the door and the cavity of the oven. 1. Use a piece of paper 0.02 in. thick, 1 in. wide, and 4 in. long (a dollar bill folded in half twice lengthwise is about this size). Open the oven door and place the paper between the door and the front frame of the oven cavity. Performance Test The standard test load is 1 liter (1000 ml) of water with an initial temperature of 59 F ~ 75 F in a 1000 ml beaker (WB64 X 73 or Robonar 14882). Performance Test for Microwave: 4. Close the oven door to capture the paper between the door and the cavity front frame. Draw the paper from between the door and the cavity (check at the bottom and sides of the door too). If there is resistance to the removal of the paper, then the distance is correct. 1. Record initial water temperature. Run at high power for 2:03 minutes. Note: Because the time can only be set in 15- second increments on this model, set the time for 2:15 and end the test when the display reaches 0:1 Record end water temperature. The minimum difference between the initial and ending temperatures should be: V. 29
30 Interlocks (Door Latch Switches) The interlocks are designed as follows: Secondary - The top switch is operated by the top latch pawl connected to the line (L) leg. Latch Pawl Latch Pawl To test the interlocks: 1. Latch Board power to the oven. Open the control panel. Primary Interlock Switch(Top) Monitor Interlock Switch(Middle) Door Sensing Switch(Botton) 5. Reconnect the switch wiring. 6. Test the circuit operation: a. Connect a temporary jumper across the relay contacts and the primary switch to simulate shorted switch contacts. Locate convenient connections in the circuit to be certain the COM and N.O. terminals are used. b. Connect an ohmmeter (Low Scale) across the two line terminals of the appliance power cord. Continuity must show: Door Closed - Some Ω Door Open - 0 Ω c. Remove the 20-Amp. fuse - the circuit must open ( Ω). If not, check the wiring of the monitor and interlock circuits. 7. After the test, remove the temporary jumpers and reconnect the monitor switch leads. Discharge the capacitor. 4. Primary - check continuity of COM and N.O.: Door Closed - 0 Ω Door Open - Ω Monitor Switch The monitor switch is located between the top and bottom interlocks. The monitor switch is operated indirectly by the bottom latch pawl. To test the interlock system: power to the oven. Open the control panel. Discharge the capacitor. the monitor switch leads and test at the terminals: Door Closed - Ω Door Open - 0 Ω TOP SW. BKT.ADJ. BOTTOM SW. BKT.ADJ. To adjust the interlocks: PRIMARY MONITOR SW DOOR SENSING SW The switch housing is adjustable for door fit and switch operation power to the oven. Open the control panel. Discharge the capacitor. Loosen the 2 Phillips-head screws that attach the door switch bracket to the oven frame. Adjust the switch bracket for proper switch operation and door fit. Retighten screws. 6. Check for microwave leakage after any adjustment and distance between the door and cavity of the microwave. 30
31 Key Panel Test If necessary, the key panel pads can be verified by a continuity test. For ease of handling, the key panel should be removed and placed on a flat surface.
