1 Outdoor Play Area HAZARD: Broken items, litter, debris in children s play area. 1. Check that outdoor play area is swept and clear of litter or debris before taking children/equipment out. 2. Particular risk from nails, glass, broken bottles or cans after weekends. 3. Action: ask janitor to sweep away unsafe items before taking equipment and children out to play. St Peter s Eco Garden 1. Check that garden is free from nails, broken glass or cans or dogs dirt. 2. Check that compost bin and bench are intact and vandal free. 3. Action: ask janitor to sweep and dispose of unsafe items. 4. Report vandalism to SMT before taking children out to the garden.
2 Baking HAZARD: germs from dirty hands, dirty noses, dirty equipment, surfaces, spillages, burns. 1. Check all surfaces are cleared and equipment is clean and prepared before baking activity. 2. Ensure children wash their hands thoroughly, sleeves are rolled up and they have aprons on. 3. Ensure tissues are to hand, and go over procedure that children must use a tissue and wash their hands if they have a runny nose or sneeze during activity. 4. Use individual bowls for mixing and label cake trays for individual children to take only their own baking home. 5. When a parent/carer provides a birthday treat for other children to enjoy, these are distributed and given for children to take home and eat at parent/carers discretion. 6. Ensure kitchen area is out of bounds and door is closed.
3 Computers HAZARD: Electricity tripping over wires; electric shock, eyestrain 1. Only adults to switch on computer power. Report faults to SMT/school office. 2. Wires to be kept tidy and, where possible, out of reach. 3. No water, drinks or food to be taken to computer area. 4. Computer area to be free of paper, toys, equipment, etc. 5. Limit time of children on computer. Draw up rota/timetable to ensure balance between physical and inert activity. 6. Ensure computers are closed down and switched off at the end of each day.
4 Art and Craft HAZARD: water/paint spillages, cuts from scissors, sharp objects, injury from equipment; 1. Check easel/equipment assembly and supervise appropriate use. 2. Ensure water and liquid paints are covered and that children are wearing aprons/shirts and have their sleeves rolled up. 3. Check surrounding floor is cleared of equipment or obstructions. 4. Check socket covers and tidy wires. 5. Clear any spillages and hang aprons away from the floor. 6. Ensure adult scissors, laminator and guillotine always away from playroom area. 7. Train children how to use scissors. 8. Train to carry scissors correctly.

Cover/remove art table and easel with newspaper/plastic covers Wash glue sticks and paint trays of easel. Wash tea-towels Check toilets inform janitor when necessary. Termly Wash costumes/dolls dressing Wash house utensils and equipment Cleaning Materials Dettol Spray/wipes Kitchen area/ computers Fairy Liquid Washing equipment Soap Powder Washing Machine Dish Washer tablets dish washer Blue Kitchen Roll for spillage on hands Mop for floor spillages.
