The goal is to present a history of our industry to establish the intentions of HVAC in our world. By the end of the session you will be familiar with the various systems available today, as well as recent advancements and emerging technology. 2 SVL University Course 2 SVL University Course 2 Psychometrics The purpose of this course is to gain an understanding of the basic concepts of psychometrics including air properties, evaporation, enthalpy, relative humidity, dew-point and temperature change. The goal is to have a better understanding of the psychometric chart and how it is used to design the appropriate HVAC systems. By the end of the session you will have reviewed HVAC components such as air handling units, heating and cooling coils, humidifiers and de-humidifiers. 3 SVL University Course 3 SVL University Course 3 Air Distribution Applications The purpose of this course is to learn about the principles of Air Distribution and how to meet your goals as a design engineer, to provide the owner with a thermally comfortable space for occupants. The goal is to cover the comfort limits set by ASHRAE Standard 55, types of comfort cooling systems used in typical commercial HVAC systems, air patterns and performance criteria for overhead diffusers, design criteria for displacement ventilation systems, and ASHRAE Standard 62.1 s table for Air Distribution Effectiveness. By the end of the session you will have a better understanding of the different air distribution technologies available and how to properly select them for a design. This goal is to teach you the physics of mechanical air movement, the differences of various fan types, optimal selection practices, motor-fan interaction, emerging fan technologies; and of course, how to avoid common problems. The goal is to cover the components of an air handling unit, their functions, options for each component, the differences between custom and packaged, proper design techniques, and creative designs for different layouts. By the end of the session you will have a better understanding of the inner workings of air handling unit applications and how to make the best selection for your design. The goal is to cover in-depth details of efficiency, effectiveness and frost control strategies. By the end of the session you will know how to properly select energy recovery exchangers and apply the proper frost control strategy for our challenging climate. The goal is to teach you basic knowledge regarding the interworking of air conditioning systems. By the end of the session you will have a greater understanding of basic system components, and the process of the refrigeration cycle itself. The goal is to cover in-depth details on evaporator types, compressor types (scroll, screw, and centrifugal), and types of chiller heat rejection (air cooled, water cooled, and evaporative cooled). By the end of the session you will be able to answer the where to and when to questions for applying, designing, and installing a successful chiller plant. The goal is to teach: the basic anatomy of sound (including sound power, sound pressure, octave band frequencies, measurement, amplification, mitigation, noise criteria, and room criteria), typical sound paths found in an HVAC system, common equipment used to keep sound levels at acceptable levels for building occupants, and the tools available to contractors and designers.
