1 Town of Kingston NEW Waste and Recycling Collection Services Dear Customer Waste Management would like to take this opportunity to provide you with this updated information relating to trash and recycling services in the Town of Kingston. This packet includes information on the following: 1. Schedule NEW Collection Days 2. Trash 3. Recycling New Program, Single Stream Recycling 4. Tips for Best Service 5. Frequently asked Questions 6. Household Hazard Waste Think Green from Home Collection Calendar 8. Recycling Chart 9. Street Listing with 4-Day Collection 1. Schedule - *NEW Beginning July 15th the trash schedule will be changing from 5 day collection to 4 days, Tuesday-Friday and recycle collection will occur every other week. All regular household refuse must be placed curbside by 7am on pick up day. 2. Trash All regular household refuse must be placed curbside by 7am on pickup day. There is no limit on household waste amounts or specific containers dictated. All MSW shall be placed in plastic bags or suitable containers not exceeding 39 gallons in volume. Your calendar is on page 3 and street listing are shown on page 5. The following items will NOT be accepted: Dirt, sod, concrete or rock Construction/demolition debris Household hazardous waste Hot ashes or flammable materials such as oil, gas or paint 3. Recycling - * New Cart & Single Stream Recycling! In the first week of July you will receive a 96 gallon recycle container that will be used to place all recyclables in. The green cart is for recyclables only. Recycling not only conserves precious natural resources, but also helps to reduce Your yellow-lid cart is for recylables only. costs by decreasing the amount of materials that must be placed in the landfill; please recycle everything you can. Note: Do NOT place TRASH in your new green Recycle cart. If you require more than one recycle container, please call Your recycling container should be placed curbside every other week on the same day as your regular trash collection. You do not need to sort your recyclables. Leave 3 feet between your recycle cart and solid waste when placing them curbside, to allow the truck to collect both easily. 4. Tips for the best service Care and use of your recycle cart: - Always keep the lid closed to keep rain, snow and animals out. - Do not place any unacceptable materials in the cart. - Use the handle provided to move the cart. Tilt the cart on its wheels to roll it. Remember that it s easier to pull the cart uphill and push it downhill. - Remove your cart as soon as possible after collection to maintain the appearance of your neighborhood. - Clean your cart periodically by rinsing it with water and letting it dry in the sun with the lid open. There are currently no restrictions on street parking on collection days. Since automated waste collection requires clearance for the vehicle s lifting mechanism, any cars parked at the curb should be at least 5 feet from the trash cart. The placement of your trash barrel and your recycle cart are very important, since the collection vehicle s lifting arm requires clearance: 3 feet on both sides, and 12 feet overhead. Proper placement of your cart Place barrel and cart 3-4 feet apart. The carts should be no more than 3 feet away from the road s edge, with the arrow facing the road and the hinges facing away from the street, as shown here. cont d on pg. 2

2 cont d from pg Frequently asked questions Can I put extra recycle items next to my container? Please make sure all items are contained in the cart. Any items left outside the recycle cart will not be picked up. Make sure to have 3-4 feet between carts to enable the truck arm to grab the containers. If you require more than one recycle container, please call Waste Management at What should I do if I have a problem with my new cart? If properly handled the cart will last for many years. If you experience a problem with your cart (broken wheel, lid, etc.) please contact Waste Management at I m planning to clean out the garage and have a lot of refuse to get rid of right away. Where will I be able dispose of it? The Bagster may be a solution. You can find The Bagster at any Home Depot, Lowes or other local hardware stores for $ Then call Waste Management s # on the packaging to get your Bagster collected. Residents of Kingston are allowed to use the Newton, NH Transfer Station to get rid of things such as mattresses, furniture, appliances, electronics and more. Fees may vary. The town of Kingston collects used motor oil on the first Saturday of each month from 9-11am at the highway garage on 12 main street. The used oil fuels the furnace in highway garage.
