4 1. Description 1 Description Dietrisol solar installations are fitted with Diemasol C type regulators. These regulators are of the "smart" solar type. They are self-contained and able to determine the optimum regulation for the system ("matched flow") according to tank temperatures and solar collector temperatures. After rinsing and refilling, the solar installations equipped with Diemasol settings do not require any further adjustment. Moreover, these regulators can load and unlaod a storage tank (DMCDB) and control the swimming pool pump and/or a biomass boiler. 1.1 Diemasol C solar regulator The Diemasol C solar regulator combines all the basic functions required and is also suitable for east-west fields of collectors and 2- tank systems. The new Diemasol C regulator can handle a QUADRO, an additional storage tank or a swimming pool and a biomass boiler. Moreover, it has a bus outlet as standard, which can be used to check the service condition of the solar installation using special software or perform remote consultations by means of a modem. 1.2 Package list Diemasol C FKP6 collector sensor 2.5 m silicon cable (x1) DHW sensor with FRP150 sensor tube PUR 2.5 m cable (x2) FRP6 flow sensor with PUR 2.5 m cable (x1) Accessories bag (x1) (x1) 1.3 Technical characteristics Box: plastic, polycarbonate / ABS, polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). 5 2 Installation 2. Installation 2.1 Mounting The device must be installed inside the building in a dry place. For perfect operation the device must also be installed in a location free from powerful electromagnetic fields. It must be possible for the regulator to be isolated from the mains by a circuit breaker that provides at least a 3 mm gap between all the poles or by a circuit breaker that conforms to installation standards. When installing, take care to fit the power supply cable and the sensor wires separately. Before dismantling anything, take care to disconnect the unit from the mains. 1. Mark the mounting point on the wall and fit the dowel supplied and the matching screw without tightening it. 2. Remove the Phillips screw from the cover and separate the cover from the unit by pulling it downwards. 3. Hang the unit from the upper mounting point. Mark the lower mounting point on the wall (160 mm drilling template), see the back of the base frame, then fit the lower dowel. 4. Hang the unit by the top and tighten the lower screw. 1 Top cover 2 Alphanumeric LCD display 3 Control keys 4 Terminal blocks 5 Base 6 Cable clamps 7 Sub-cover 8 Cover 9 LED 27/10/ G DIEMASOL C 5

7 3 Types of sensors 3. Types of sensors The Diemasol C regulator uses very accurate temperature sensors (Pt1000 model) (FKP and FRP). The range includes 3 types of sensors to fit all installations: - a dip probe - a flat-surface-mounted sensor - a pipe-mounted sensor. The FKP and FRP sensor types are similar from a technical point of view and the models are similar.only their electrical connections are different: FK: 1.5 m silicone sensor cable, resistant to weather variations and temperature variations, designed for temperatures of -50 C C, designed for the collector. FR: Ölflex 2.5 m cable for use at temperatures between +5 C and +80 C, intended for the DHW tank. Comply with current regulations. The sensor cables carry a low voltage; they should not be in the same cable duct as cables carrying more than 50 volts. The length of the sensor cable can be extended to 100 m. The section of the extension must be 1.5 mm 2 (or 0.75 mm 2 for lengths up to 50 m). For longer lengths or when using cable ducts, it is preferable to use twisted-core cables. For dip probes, use sensor tubes. FKP6: Pt1000 temperature sensor, diameter 6 mm, 1.5 mm silicone sensor cable, temperature range C, no sensor tube, sensor incorporated in the collector. FRP150: Pt1000 temperature sensor, immersion depth 150 mm, copper sensor tube (nickel-plated), complete sensor to be incorporated in the tank. To avoid the risk of voltage surge in the collector sensor (for example, due to a nearby lightning conductor), we recommend that you install a De Dietrich SP1 surge protection system 27/10/ G DIEMASOL C 7

General description of how the unit operates 5.2 Solar system operating mode solar systems with thermal plate exchanger, solar end C QUADRO 750 QUADRO HFS 750 MF/ FWS 750 MF + DKC PSB + DKC RSB + DKCS The sun's rays heat the transfer fluid in the collector. To trigger the regulation process, a minimum temperature of 30 C () on the collector and an activation temperature difference of 10 K compared with the domestic hot water tank () must be reached. In the ensuing auto-calibration phase (auto-calibration period setting parameter, factory setting 3 minutes), the solar pump () operates at full power (100%). Subsequently, by means of a dynamic speed control system for the primary and secondary circuit pump, an attempt is made to reach a target temperature difference (reference T, factory setting 20 C). The secondary pump switches on for a period of 2 minutes (). From that moment, measuring the temperature and running the programme is no longer done by the sensor located in the solar power logger, but is done by the sensor located on the exchanger output. The tank zone reversal temperature is reached in a variable manner which depends on the temperature on the flow sensor () and the temperature in the upper section of the tank (). When the minimum reversal temperature (factory setting 40 C) is exceeded on the flow sensor () and the temperature in the upper section of the tank () is colder than the temperature measured on the flow sensor (), the reversal valve () is activated in the upper part of the tank (preparation of solar drinking water). Depending on the heat available, the system heats up the solar tank and cuts off when the tank storage temperature is reached (adjustment parameter Tballon1max, factory setting: 60 C). When the collector reaches its maximum temperature (adjustment parameter Tcapt1max, factory setting: 100 C), the solar pump responsible for cooling the system switches on and operates until the temperature is 5 K less than parameter Tcapt1max or until the maximum storage temperature (80 C) is exceeded. As soon as the temperature in the collectors drops below the temperature in the calorifier, the calorifier is cooled down to its set temperature. The amount of heat transferred from the collectors to the tank is displayed as parameter AH. The value is cumulative and is constantly updated. 10 DIEMASOL C 27/10/ G

In the ensuing auto-calibration phase (auto-calibration period setting parameter, factory setting 3 minutes), the solar pump () operates at full power (100%). The amount of heat transferred from the collectors to the tank is displayed as parameter AH. The value is cumulative and is constantly updated solar systems with thermal plate exchanger, solar end, and east-west collector field C The operating mode is identical to that of solar systems. Only the two collector fields can operate independently of each other. In this scenario, two additional 2-way valves ( and ) are tripped. The valves control either the first or second, or both collector fields. When the activation temperature difference between a collector field and the tank of 10 K is reached, the corresponding 2-way valve opens and the tank can be loaded. 12 5. General description of how the unit operates solar systems with 2 tanks or 1 tank and 1 swimming pool with / without thermal plate exchanger, solar end 2 tanks with / without DKC (S) 1 tank and 1 swimming pool with / without DKC (S) C The operating mode for installations with 2 users for heating is identical to that of systems as far as the first user is concerned (exception: no action in the drinking water zone in the upper part of tank 1). The regulator compares the collector temperature with the temperature in tank 2 or the swimming pool. If the temperature difference measured is greater than the parameter values for the activation temperature difference ( T2on), the pump is started up and loaded via the reversal valve in tank 2 or the swimming pool until the maximum temperature set at most (Ttank2max). With the parameter (priority, factory setting tank 1), priority must be given to one of the two tanks. Heating in parallel is not possible. If tank 1 is loaded or the temperature conditions for loading are not satisfied but the temperature conditions for loading tank 2 or swimming pool 2 are satisfied, the reversal valve is bypassed. Loading is done for 15 minutes (t-change, factory setting). Loading of tank 2 or the swimming pool is suspended for 2 minutes (t-pause, factory setting) and the regulator monitors the increase in temperature on the collector. If the temperature on the collector increases by 2 K in the space of 2 minutes (fixed value), the 2 minutes are zeroed and the regulator restarts the countdown from the beginning. If the activation conditions for tank 1 are satisfied, loading starts immediately, otherwise loading of tank 2 or the swimming pool continues. If tank 1 has reached its maximum temperature, only tank 2 or the swimming pool are loaded. Given that, because of the configuration chosen for the installation (swimming pool), the solar thermal exchanger may be too small in tank 1, if the solar energy is too high, this may lead to overheating on the solar system due to the fact that the solar energy available in the tank can no longer be transferred. To obviate this, there is a regulator criterion which compares the collector temperature with the temperature in tank 1. If the collector temperature is 40 C higher than the tank temperature, the switch is made automatically to tank 2 or the swimming pool in order to cool down the solar system. It is possible to use a DKC or DKCS station during activation of the parameter on the external thermal plate exchanger. 12 DIEMASOL C 27/10/ G
13 5. General description of how the unit operates solar systems with 2 tanks or 1 tank and 1 swimming pool with / without thermal plate exchanger, solar end, and east-west collector field 2 tanks with / without DKC (S) 1 tank and 1 swimming pool with / without DKC (S) C The operating mode is identical to that of solar systems. It is possible to use a DKC or DKCS station during activation of the parameter on the external thermal plate exchanger. 27/10/ G DIEMASOL C 13
14 5. General description of how the unit operates 5.3 Additional functions Tubular solar collector function The tubular solar collector function can be activated in all schematics. If the regulator observes an increase of 2 K compared with the last collector temperature recorded, the solar pump is activated at 100% for 30 seconds to calculate the current temperature of the fluid. Once the running time of the solar pump is over, the current collector temperature is recorded as a new point of reference. If the temperature calculated (new point of reference) is again exceeded by 2 K, the solar pump is tripped again for 30 seconds. If, during the running time of the solar pump or even on shutdown of the installation, the activation difference between the collector and the tank is exceeded, the regulator automatically switches to solar loading. If the collector temperature drops by 2 K during shutdown, the activation point for the tubular collector function is recalculated. Cooling the system The solar installation is deactivated when the maximum tank parameter temperature is reached. If the collector temperature increases to reach the maximum collector parameter temperature, the solar pump is activated for as long as necessary for the value to fall back down below this temperature limit. The tank temperature may rise again (maximum temperature of the secondary active tank), but only until it reaches 80 C (tank safety deactivation). If the tank temperature is higher than the maximum tank temperature and the collector temperature is lower than the tank temperature by at least 5 K, the solar installation continues to operate until the tank has again been cooled down via the collector and the pipes to below the maximum tank parameter temperature. External thermal plate exchanger It is only possible to activate a thermal plate exchanger in the solar part with 2-tank systems. The operating mode is the same as with QUADRO 750. It is possible to use 2 storage tanks without a thermal spiral tube exchanger with a thermal plate exchanger. Systems with 1 storage tank without a thermal spiral tube exchanger and 1 swimming pool can be regulated in this way. The thermal plate exchanger and the additional pump are not displayed by the regulator. Heat meter A heat meter can be installed at the solar end with all solar systems. There are two implementation options: Option 1: Preset for all systems, the option is used to accurately calculate the quantity of heat transmitted. A flow rate, estimated by the regulator, and the collector temperature and the temperature in the lower part of the tank are used for the calculation. The estimated flow rate is adapted by the regulator according to the pump rotation speed. For systems with 2 tanks, it is the sensor in the lower section of the tank being loaded which is used. The maximum flow rate must be set by the installer on start up of the solar regulator. See table below: Collector surface Number of Flow rate (l/h) Flow rate (l/ (m 2 ) panels min) < x x x The actual value is generally slightly lower or higher than the calculated value of the quantity of heat. Option 2: The option must also be activated and is used to calculate the exact quantity of heat. It is also necessary to order package EG 174: Flow meter with 2 temperature sensors. To this end, the heat meter parameter must be set in the parameters menu to select the flow rate measuring component. Indicate a pulse rate which corresponds to the flow rate measuring component used V40. The two temperature sensors must be connected to the regulator via sensor terminals 0 and 1. Sensor 0 must be placed at the solar flow and sensor 1 at the solar return. The flow meter must be installed at the coldest solar return end. 14 DIEMASOL C 27/10/ G
15 5. General description of how the unit operates MCDB Pool C B AB A 2 C Unloading of the mixed tank (1) is done when the temperature of the mixed tank () is hotter than the minimum load temperature (min. load temp.) and the temperature difference is between and (unload.- Ton) (pump activated and three way valve on A/AD). If the temperature difference between and (Unload.- Toff) is less than 3 C, unloading is deactivated. If the mixed tank (1) is cooled down by an energy draw-off and the temperature difference between and (Load.- Ton) is at least 10 C, loading of the mixed tank (1) is done ( activated and three way valve on B/AB). The swimming pool load pump () is activated when the temperature of tank (min. tank T) rises to at least 40 C and a temperature difference between and ( Ton) of 10 C is reached. The pump is deactivated when the temperature difference between and ( Toff) is less than 3 C and the temperature of the swimming pool (max. pool T) is higher than 30 C. Biomass C The tank load pump () is activated when the minimum boiler temperature (min. boil. temp.) of 60 C is exceeded and the temperature difference between and ( Ton) is more than 10 C. The load pump is deactivated when the temperature difference between and ( Toff) is less than 3 C and the maximum tank temperature (max. tank temp.) of 80 C is reached. 27/10/ G DIEMASOL C 15
