They cannot be treated as recyclables because they affect the quality of recycled paper. Waterproof paper (paper cups, etc.), carbon paper, crimped postcards, thermal paper (receipts, etc.), photos, gold leaf and aluminum foil, printed paper (cloth print paper), heat-sensitive form paper (braille paper), plastic laminated paper, scented paper, paper dirtied with water and oil. Postcard recycling bins are permanently located at City Hall and the Tobu and Seibu Offices. burnable Shredded paper Place shredded paper into transparent or translucent bags by itself (because the recycling process is different). Since newspaper is manufactured into newspaper, magazines and miscellaneous paper into paper board, and cordboard into cordboard, they should be sorted separately. On April 1, 2013, an ordinance was enacted whereby prohibiting the removal of recyclables, such as newspapers, magazines, cardboard, old cloth, bottles, and cans from waste-collection points by anyone except businesses entrusted with collection by the city, On July 1, 2013, penalties that impose fines of up to 200,000 JPY on those who remove recyclables were enacted. If you see anyone removing recyclables from collection points, inform the Waste Reduction Section (Π)of the date and time, location, vehicle, and features of the person. Do not directly warn the person or stop the vehicle since doing so may be dangerous. 86

7 Old cloth [Old clothes and cloth, stuffed toys, bags, hats, ties, belts] Place old cloth in transparent or translucent bags. (It is not necessary to separate old clothes and old cloth from stuffed toys.) Do no put out old cloth on rainy days. Futons [Cotton, wool, synthetic fiber, down] Down quilts will be collected as recyclables from November 2014 Drink packages [500cc or larger] (Recyclables are collected at retail stores) (Since even a little moisture causes mold, moldy cloth cannot be recycled.) Put out old cloth in as clean a state as possible. (Some stains and small holes are acceptable.) Heavily dirtied old cloth is treated as burnable waste. Even when materials other than cloth such as buttons and fasteners are attached to old cloth, put it out as is without removing them. Old clothes and cloth made of leather or artificial leather can be put out as recyclables. Towels, handkerchiefs, bed sheets, and curtains can be put out as recyclables. Since stuffed toys, bags, hats, ties, and belts will be reused in Japan and overseas, if they are torn or broken, put them out as burnable waste and. Pants, stockings, martial arts uniforms, diaper covers, and yarn balls are treated as burnable waste. Bind futons crosswise with strings. They are manufactured into futons, sofas, stuffed toys, etc. Drink packages are manufactured into toilet paper. Soft and light plastics (that which can be crumpled with one hand) are treated as burnable waste. Film (thin) plastics such as confectionary bags, packages, plastic shopping bags and wraps are treated as burnable waste even if they have a mark. Collected burnable waste, unburnable waste, and are handled by the Kodaira-Murayama-Yamato Hygiene Association, and recycled as eco-cement materials or buried as landfill at the Futatsuzuka Wide-area Waste Disposal Sitein Hinodemachi. Soak edible oil in cloth and paper or harden it with a solidifier before putting it out. (Liquid waste cannot be collected.) Diapers and sanitary goods are treated as burnable waste. Flush excrements down a toilet. Leaves and grass from households should be bagged. No more than 5 bags should be put out at a time. If you hire someone to cut your grass, ask them to take the grass back with them. Intravenous tubes and urine sampling bags are treated as burnable waste. Flush contaminants and excrements down a toilet. Pointy materials such as needles, needleequipped syringes and pen injectors cannot be collected by Kodaira City. Be sure to return them to the hospital or drugstore you purchased them from.

9 Branches (To be recycled into chips) Reduce raw waste. Be careful not to buy or prepare too much food so as not to generate waste. Then... Be sure to drain water from raw waste before putting it out. A quick and effective way to drain water from raw waste is to put the waste in a net and squeeze it by hand. This can reduce the volume by 10%. Speaking of raw waste... Crows breed and are active from spring to summer, thus they cause more damage to waste-collection points. Since crows visually look for food, wrapping garbage in newspaper to prevent them from seeing it is the most effect measure against scavenging. Practice the 3Rs! Tree branches from households are collected separately from other burnable waste on the day when burnable waste is collected. Up to 5 bundles are collected free of charge, provided that the branch is no more than 10cm in diameter (Bundles which are no more than 30cm in diameter and up to 50cm in length) as shown in the figure on the left. A "Food Resources Model Project" is underway to sort and recycle raw waste as compost. Participants are requested to form a group of 3 or more households separate and put out food resources in a dedicated bucket once a week. The prepared compost is then distributed to participating households. For details, please contact the Waste Reduction Section. Subsidies are provided to purchase food (raw waste) disposal units (half of the purchase price up to 30,000 JPY for households and up to 300,000 for businesses). Since collection vehicles differ depending on items, may not be collected all at once. During New Year s and when there are many requests, it may take more time to collect. Some cannot be accepted via the Internet since details need to be checked. Can't the be used, if repaired? Think of who might want the bulky waste before discarding it, such as a recycle shop or neighbors. (Reuse property rather than discard it as.) Do not disassemble and put out on collection days for burnable and. Bulky waste is separately collected as it cannot be treated together with general waste. If you replace an electric appliance, ask the retailer from which you purchase the new product to take the replaced product back with them. Even if wanting to simply discard it, if you know the retailer you purchased it from, consult the retailer for collection. If you do not know where you purchased it from or live in a remote place, take the following measures. Pay the home appliance recycling charge through the Japan Post Bank or Post Office (savings counter). Since home appliances recycling charges differ by manufacturer, check the name of manufacture and size in advance. You can pay the charge through the Japan Post Bank and Post Office (savings counter) anywhere in Japan. Request pickup and transport. If you cannot transport the product yourself, ask a collection-transportation company (pay service). Requests for transportation are accepted at the following office.
