7 Solution builder in energy management HTHW Generator Simoneau High temperature Hot Water Generator The Simoneau HTHW generator is a header to header type design with gas-tight, welded steel intercasing, water cooled rear wall, staggered bent tube convection section, ceramic wool front wall and optional integrated finned tube economizer. Simoneau s generator is specially design for hot water medium temperature/high temperature/high pressure. Typical applications include central heating plants, airports, hospitals, universities, processing facilities and many others. The Simoneau HTHW generator is specifically designed to generate high/medium temperature hot water. The Simoneau design provides the next generation, Best of Class heat tranfer technology. GENERAL GENERATOR REQUIREMENTS Provide a high temperature hot water generator(s) shop of the packaged flexible steel water tube design. The generator(s) will be designed for pressurized firing, complete with a heavy structural steel base, trim, burner, burner controls and appurtenances. The generator(s) will be shop hydrostatic tested, inspected and stamped by a recognized government inspector in accordance with ASME Code Section I. As a complete factory assembled package, the generator(s) shall be ready for the attachment of water, fuel, drain, electrical, stack and venting connections. The hot water generator(s) specified herein shall be designed to produce ( ) MMBTU/hour continuously at F outlet temperature and F return temperature. All pressure containing parts, accessories, fixtures and fittings shall be designed and constructed for psig design pressure, in accordance with the latest edition of the applicable ASME Code Section I. The generator(s) will be furnished as a complete factory assembled unit, consisting of the pressure vessel assembly, burner, fuel trains, combustion and flame safeguard controls. 3. ACCEPTABLE EQUIPMENT The packaged hot water generator shall be an AQUATUBE Balanced Flow heater design. 2

13 4. GENERATOR DESIGN The generator shall be a steel flexible water tube of the two drum of O type design. The furnace and convection passes shall consist of tangent tubes on both sides of the furnace forming a symmetrical and straggered layout, assuring a balanced flow circulation pattern under all load conditions. The design will provide longitudinal gas passes separated with staggered water wall tubes to provide turbulent gas flow and maximize heat transfer. The generator rear wall shall be constructed of a full membrane water tube configuration for all generators over 80 HP to provide high efficiency, cooling of combustion gases and increased heat transfer. No refractory will be used in the target wall area, except around the access door. All generator tubes will be a minimum of 1.5 inches in diameter, inch minimum wall thickness for the boiler from 20 to 1200 HP and be easily accessible for individual replacement. To ensure positive circulation of water, the heater will be designed with baffles in headers in order to increase velocity of water, and integral orifices in downcomer tubes to insure equal repartition in each tube and prevent steaming and steam plug. A dedicated generator tube will be incorporated in the design to permit any entrained air at the top of the lower header to pass freely into the upper header. Hole drilled at top of baffles in headers will insure the same. The combustion chamber construction will consist of water tubes strength welded to headers on both sides, floor and roof. The front wall will be constructed of ceramic fibre blocks rated at 2400 F. The rear target wall will be water cooled without the use of any refractory except on the boilers from 20 to 80 HP where it will be like the front wall. The inner casing s will be fabricated of 11 gauge steel overlaid with a 2 inch thick insulation rated at 2300 F. This casing will be seal welded construction and will be designed to contain the products of combustion at the maximum operating furnace pressure. The outer casings shall consist of 14 gauge corrugated pre-painted steel panels, underlain with 2 inch fibreglass blanket insulation. There will be an adequate air space between inner and outer casings to assist in insulation. Top is made of checker plates. The furnace shall be accessible from the rear with a double man door, headers will be provided with hand holes. Observation ports will be provided for viewing the combustion conditions. The exhaust gas vent connection will be located at the front top center line of the generator and at the back for heater for 80 HP and less. Rear connection for heaters 100 HP and more is available as an option. 3

14 Lifting lugs shall be furnished on the heater top header, to facilitate rigging and lifting of the unit. 5. GENERATOR TRIM AND CONNECTIONS A flanged hot water supply connection will be located on the center line at the front of the upper and lower headers. A generator water drain connection will be provided at the rear of the lower header. An air vent connection will be provided on the center line of the upper header. Safety relief valve(s) in compliance with ASME code will be furnished. A generator water temperature gauge will be provided. A manual drain valve will be provided. Hot water temperature controls will be provided for operation, high limit (auto reset) and high/high limit (manual reset). Probe type main and auxiliary low water cut off control will be furnished as an integral part of the generator upper header connection. 4

BOILER TRIMS AND CONNECTIONS Flanged steam supply connection from 3 diameter and over will be located on the center line at the front of the upper steam drum. A boiler water blow off connection will be provided at the rear of the lower drum. An air vent connection will be provided on the center line of the steam drum. A surface blow off connection will be provided at the bottom of the steam drum. Opposed feed water and chemical feed connections will be provided at the rear of the steam drum to ensure complete mixing of water and chemical on entry to the boiler. Safety relief valve(s) in compliance with ASME code will be furnished. A probe type low water cut off control will be furnished as an integral part of the boiler water column. A water column/gauge glass will be mounted near the steam drum outlet connection and will provide a visual indication of the actual water level in the drum. The water column shall include the water level electrodes for low water and will include try cocks (if required), drain valve for the water column and gauge glass. 4

30 Steam pressure controls will be provided for operation, high limit (auto reset) and high/high limit (manual reset). A separate probe type, manual reset control will be provided for auxiliary low water cut off. Provide a steam pressure gauge. Provide a single element feed water control system to monitor and automatically adjust feed water flow rates proportionately in accordance with drum level. This system will be supplied complete with a drum mounted level transmitter (or controller) and will signal a modulating feed water valve (on-off feed water valve for boilers up to 300 HP) through a valve mounted actuator to allow the correct water flow to the boiler in compliance with the plant load demand. The gas tight construction is achieved by sealed skin casing, sidewall, roof, boiler sidewall and inner seal welded steel casings enclosing the refractory. The unit is tested at 10 W.C. with all seams checked with soapy water. The steam generator pressure parts are fabricated and hydrostatically tested in accordance with the latest edition of the ASME Code, Section 1, Power Boilers. STEAM GENERATOR AND STRUCTURES Doors Observations Ports Instrument Sleeves One (1) air-cooled observation ports is provided in an approximate centered location on the rear wall. One (1) access door is provided at the rear end of the boiler casing allowing entry into the furnace. Doors are provided in gas and air duct work, as required. All doors are fitted with insulation and/or refractory as required and made tight by means of gaskets to minimize possible gas leakage. Instrument sleeves and openings are provided as required for combustion and burner management controls. 5. STEAM GENERATOR VALVES AND MOUNTINGS For details see the equipment trim list. Each unit will be shop assembled and supplied with all required accessories. 2. DESIGN OF DEAERATORS Thermodesign deaerators are spray type, two stages. Deaerators consist of a spray type heater allowing water to be raised up to 2 or 3 degrees from the saturation temperature. This heater will be mounted on a horizontal storage tank where heated water meets the conterflow steam flow. Deaerator will be fabricated with carbon steel plates and stainless steel spray valve(s). Others parts in contact with deaerated water will receive a coat of Apexior #1. Deaerator is built in order to guarantee: o That water will be heated to a temperature close to the saturation. o That dissolved oxygen will be reduced to ml/l at the most as accepted by the Winkler test. o That carbon dioxyde will be reduced to 0.0 ppm as approved by APHA standards. o That the deaerator will operate silently at all charges. o That condensate returns will take advantage over make up water. 2
