OPERATING PROCEDURES Air Requirements Important: It is recommended that the compressed air supplied to the depositor be run through an air dryer, as this will increase the service life of the pneumatic components. Please contact UNIFILLER for details. Optimum performance is achieved by setting the air pressure gauge on the machine to 80 P.S.I. (6 Bar) at rest, and at least 70 P.S.I. (5 Bar) while cycling. If not, check that the air supply to the machine is set to the correct pressure and not restricted by undersized fittings or hoses. A minimum 3/8 I.D (10mm) hose is required. Otherwise the deposit speed will be reduced. Typical compressor requirements: Minimum 2 horse power, capable of P.S.I.(7 Bar). 5 HP is the ideal size, as it will last many years longer. Connect your main air hose, which comes from your compressor (not supplied), to the UNIFILLER quick connector that is located just below the machines Air regulator / Water filter. A male barb fitting is supplied suitable for 3/8 I.D (10mm) hose with the female quick disconnect fitting. Unifiller Systems Inc. Page 7 of 20
Hopper set up Ensure that the beveled seal is in place. Then secure hopper in place by turning the hopper nut until tight Note: For safety purposes, the machine uses an air loss system and will not function if the hopper and lid connections are not in place. Ensure the Hopper Cover is in place. The machine will not operate if the connection is broken to the safety switch Unifiller Systems Inc. Page 8 of 20
Foot Switch or Hand Held Nozzle placement Remove the foot pedal from its locating pin on the upright of the frame and position it on the floor in a comfortable operating position. Not required if using a Hand Held Nozzle. Connect the air lines up to the fittings on the front of the base. (circled) Note: when using Hand Held Nozzle two of the airlines from this accessory will connect to these fittings and two to the accessory ports Unifiller Systems Inc. Page 9 of 20
Priming/Preparing to Deposit Priming is the procedure used to fill the depositing chamber with product mix as well as to remove all air pockets from within the empty machine. Air OFF turn the hand wheel located at the rear of the machine to about 50% of the depositing scale. Air On start the machine by pressing the foot switch or by squeezing the trigger on the hand gun depending on which attachment you have fitted. Place an empty container under the discharge spout and cycle the machine until the size of the deposits look consistent. The foot switch has two modes of operation as follows: 1. Press once and one measured amount will be deposited 2. Keep the foot pedal depressed, the depositor will cycle continuously depositing measured amounts. The Hand Held Nozzle acts similar to the foot pedal, one trigger of toggle switch releases one measured amount. Hold and it will continually cycle. Purge Button A Purge Button is located on the front base plate. This allows the depositor to be cycled manually with out the need of a foot pedal or an external signal. This can be used to Prime the depositor, or cycle it during cleaning. This button can also be used if on the rare occasion the depositor becomes stuck mid cycle. Press the button once and the machine will cycle. Unifiller Systems Inc. Page 10 of 20
Deposit Speed Control The Deposit Speed Control is the adjustment to obtain the desired speed of delivery of the Deposit speed control Knob product mix to the target area. Turn clockwise = decreased deposit speed Turn counter clockwise = increased deposit speed Important: - If a deposit speed adjustment is made after a volume has been set the volume may change. So be sure to re-adjust the deposit volume if required. % Volume scale Volume Adjustment 1. Run the machine for 2 or 3 cycles then check the weight of the last deposit. 2. With the air turned off, move the position of the red indicator along the scale by turning the hand wheel located at the rear of the machine. Turn the handle counter clockwise to increase the volume of the deposit, clockwise to decrease the volume of the deposit. 3. To decrease the deposit weight, move to a lower percentage setting on the scale, and to increase the weight, move to a higher percentage setting. 4. With the air turned on, make a deposit into a container and check the weight. 5. Note: - When starting to run continuously, the first couple of deposits may be a little heavier than the rest. More so for aerated product. 6. Once you have established the required weight, note the % position for future reference. Different products may have different scale settings, even if the weights are the same. Unifiller Systems Inc. Page 11 of 20
Working with the Depositor Products with high viscosities may cling to the inside of the hopper and should be scraped down periodically or kept more than ½ full to avoid sucking air through the middle and into the system. New batch: If the next type of product mix is compatible with the previous one, simply fill the hopper with the new product and discharge 3 or 4 deposits into a bowl and add it back into the hopper. Check deposited volume before continuing. Changing to a Different Product Scrape down the insides of the hopper, continue to deposit until empty. Pour a bucket of warm water into the hopper and wipe clean. Close the lid and reconnect the safety plugs Cycle the water out of the machine Add new product* and cycle the machine until acceptable output is achieved * It is recommended to work from light to dark product where possible. Unifiller Systems Inc. Page 12 of 20
PRODUCT PISTON AND CYLINDER INFORMATION There are 3 different sizes of product cylinder and product piston available. By using the correct size of cylinder for the deposit required you will maintain accuracy and speed. It is recommended that the % setting for the product piston be set between 15 to 80% of the scale. This will ensure optimum machine performance is achieved. See table for information. Size Piston and Cylinder Displacement Displacement Kits Part Numbers Volume (oz) (Max) Volume (ml) (Max) 1.5 (38.1 mm) oz 243 ml 2.5 (63.5 mm) oz 802 ml 4 (101.6 mm) oz 2000 ml O-Rings and Part# s Size Piston Part # Piston O-Ring Product Cylinder Part # Product Cylinder O-Ring V V V V V V Unifiller Systems Inc. 14 DISASSEMBLY AND CLEANING NOTE: Never store parts in a bucket. This prevents damage to sensitive components. Always store parts on a flat tray. General 1. Remove Hopper Cover and Scrape down the insides of the hopper. 2. Spray down with water to rinse as much product off as possible. 3. Replace Hopper Cover and continue to deposit until nothing more comes out of the outlet nozzle. 4. Pour a bucket of warm water up to 120 deg F (49 deg C) with a little mild detergent into the hopper and wipe the inside of the hopper clean. 5. Reduce deposit speed 6. By depressing the foot pedal or hand held nozzle, cycle the rest of the water out of the machine and into a bucket. 7. Repeat the above procedure by cycling a further bucket of warm clean water through the hopper and valve system. 8. Turn the air supply off by sliding the red main valve down and disconnect air hose. 9. Disconnect airlines from machine, connect the red and black quick connects together. This will stop water from entering the air cylinders during cleaning. Unifiller Systems Inc. Page 14 of 20
