6 Before first use OPERATION Remove all packaging materials, labels and/or stickers from your appliance. Check package contents for completeness and damage. Do not operate the appliance if package content is incomplete or appear damaged. Return it immediately to the dealer. CAUTION: Danger of suffocation! Packaging materials are not toys. Always keep plastic bags, foils and Styrofoam parts away from babies and children. Packaging material could block nose and mouth and prevent breathing. Place the appliance on a clean, flat and heat resistant surface. Connect the plug (3) to a suitable wall outlet (ill. b ) ( Using the appliance). NOTE: The appliance may produce an odor and emit smoke when switched on for the first time, as residues from the production process are eliminated. This is normal and does not indicate a defect or hazard. When using the appliance for the first time, it is recommended to operate it for at least 5 minutes ( Operation), until no odor or smoke is present. During use, ensure ample ventilation. CAUTION: Never let the power cord (3) come in contact with the waffle irons (9, 11) (ill. g ). CAUTION: Never touch the waffle irons (9, 11) when the appliance is plugged in and switched on (ill. d ). Let the appliance cool completely. Clean the appliance ( Cleaning). Using the appliance Use the appliance for making waffles only. NOTE: The appliance has a rated power of 1000W. Before plugging it into the wall outlet, ensure that the electrical circuit is not overloaded with other appliances. This appliance should always be operated on a separate 120V~ 60Hz wall outlet. CAUTION: Always use oven mitts to protect your hands when handling the appliance. Escaping steam can burn and appliance housing is hot. NOTE: Make sure the appliance is switched off and the waffle iron is closed before connecting it to a wall outlet. 6 Rotating Waffle Maker_104553_IM_US_V4_ indd 6 12/12/12 1:16:03 PM
7 OPERATION Place the appliance on a clean, flat and heat resistant surface. Place the drip tray (8) in the base (7) (ill. a ). Ensure it sits in the base (7) securely. Insert the plug (3) into a wall outlet (ill. b ). The POWER indicator (12) turns on. The appliance will now heat up. Once the operating temperature has been reached, the READY indicators (10) will turn on. Lift up the lid (1) by its handle (5) and place it in a vertical position (ill. c ). Apply cooking spray or spray butter on the waffle irons (3, 5). Now the appliance is ready for baking waffles. Baking waffles Using the measuring cup (6), pour one full cup of batter onto the lower waffle iron (9) (ill. e ). Pour the batter on the center of lower waffle iron to cook the waffle with average color. NOTE: Always use the appliance with the drip tray (8). Fill the batter in the measure cup (6) to MAX line. Do not overfill the waffle iron, as any access batter may leak out of the appliance. NOTE: During the cooking process, the READY indicators (10) will turn on and off several times to ensure a constant temperature. Lower the upper waffle iron (11) and rotate the handle (5) 180 clockwise (ill. h ). NOTE: The handle (5) can also be folded 90 for easy rotating. Waffles are done in about 2-2½ minutes, depending on recipe, or when steaming begins to stop. Rotate the handle (5) 180 anti-clockwise (ill. i ). Open the appliance (ill. j ), as previously described, and remove the waffles using a plastic or wooden utensil. NOTE: Never use any metal utensils, as these will damage the nonstick coating. After removing the waffles, keep the waffle iron closed, so that the heat remains inside the appliance for the next set of waffles. Wait until the READY indicators (10) lights up again. Repeat previous steps. Unplug the appliance when you are done with preparing waffles (ill. k ). All indicator lights switch off. Allow appliance to cool down completely before handling again. 7 Rotating Waffle Maker_104553_IM_US_V4_ indd 7 12/12/12 1:16:04 PM
8 recipes Basic waffle recipe (for 4 ½ cups of batter, 1.125L) 2 cups (500 ml) flour 2 tbsps (30 ml) sugar 1 tbsp (15 ml) baking powder 1 tsp (5 ml) salt 1¾ cups (425 ml) milk 1 /3 cup (85 ml) vegetable oil 2 eggs Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Whisk together milk, oil and eggs. Gradually add milk mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir until batter is even and smooth. Pour batter onto waffle iron. Basic Blueberry Waffles: After pouring batter onto waffle iron, sprinkle fresh blueberries over batter, then close the appliance. Whole wheat & Belgian waffles 1 cup whole wheat flower 1 /8 cup sugar 4 tsp baking powder ¼ tsp salt 1 egg 1 cup milk ¼ cup ½ tsp vegetable oil vanilla extract In one bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and vanilla extract. In another bowl combine milk, vegetable oil and eggs. Gradually add the liquid ingredients to the flour mixture. Stir until even and smooth. Bake for about 3 minutes. 8 Rotating Waffle Maker_104553_IM_US_V4_ indd 8 12/12/12 1:16:04 PM
9 Hints and Tips Most waffle batter can be poured directly onto the nonstick waffle iron (9). Use a cooking spray for dessert waffles or any recipe with a lot of sugar. If your waffles start to stick, the waffle irons (9, 11) may need to be scrubbed with a nylon brush to remove any cooked-on food particles. Most waffles can be made ahead of time and kept warm in a 200 F (90 C) oven. To store waffles, let them cool and then pack into an airtight container. Store in a refrigerator or freezer. Waffles can be reheated in a microwave oven or regular oven. Most waffles are done in about 2-2½ minutes. Recipes made from scratch may take longer. Check for doneness after approximately 5 minutes or when the steaming stops. If the appliance does not open easily, allow waffles to cook for another minute before checking again. Cleaning Proper maintenance will ensure many years of service from your appliance. Clean the appliance after every use. The appliance contains no user serviceable parts and requires little maintenance. Leave any servicing or repairs to qualified personnel. CAUTION: Disconnect the plug (3) from the wall outlet (ill. k ). Allow all parts of the appliance to cool down completely. NOTE: Do not immerse the power cord and plug (3) into water or any other liquid. Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool or scouring pads. Dry all parts thoroughly after cleaning, before using or storing the appliance. Ensure that no water enters the appliance housing. Clean the housing of the appliance, waffle irons (9, 11) and drip tray (8) with a damp, soapy cloth. Rinse cloth and wipe all parts again. Clean the measuring cup (6) under running water or in a dishwasher. Dry the appliance and any accessories thoroughly. Storage: Before storage, always make sure the appliance is completely cool, clean and dry. It is recommended to store the appliance in a dry place. Store the appliance on a stable shelf or in a cupboard, preferably in its original packaging. To avoid accidents, ensure that both the appliance and its power cord are beyond reach of children or pets. 9 Rotating Waffle Maker_104553_IM_US_V4_ indd 9 12/12/12 1:16:04 PM
