3 IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION WARNING! When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should be followed, including the following: GROUNDING THE WINE VAULT Do not, under any circumstances, cut or remove the third (ground) prong from the power cord. For personal safety, this appliance must be properly grounded. The power cord of this appliance is equipped with a twist-lock, 3-prong (grounding) plug which mates with a specialized 3-prong (grounding) wall outlet to minimize the possibility of electric shock hazard from this appliance. Have the wall outlet and circuit checked by a qualified electrician to make sure the outlet is properly grounded. Where a standard 2-prong wall outlet is encountered, it is your personal responsibility and obligation to have it replaced with a properly grounded 3-prong twist-lock wall outlet. DO NOT USE A GFI (Ground Fault Interrupter). DO NOT USE AN EXTENSION CORD WITH THIS APPLIANCE. DO NOT BLOCK ACCESS TO THE ELECTRICAL OUTLET. Never unplug an appliance by pulling on the power cord. Always grip the plug firmly and pull straight out from the outlet. Immediately repair or replace all power cords that have become frayed or otherwise L5-30P Plug L5-30R Receptacle damaged. 4 BEFORE YOU BEGIN Allow one day for assembly of the vault and one day to install the wine racks. At least four people are required to assemble the wine vault. Refer to the Pre-Installation Checklist to be sure that all installation location conditions and requirements have been considered and, if needed, corrected. To ensure a smooth and timely installation, review these conditions and requirements again. The Installation Location The wine vault cannot be installed outdoors or where it will be exposed to outdoor conditions. The wine vault can be installed in a basement or any climate controlled room. It can also be installed in a garage as long as the ambient temperature is between 55 F and 85 F at all times. The cooling unit can maintain a temperature that is 30 F maximum cooler than the ambient temperature of the space where it exhausts. The desired constant temperature inside the vault is 55 F. The recommended humidity for wine storage is 50% to 70%. In a dry climate, the consumer may want to provide a means to add humidity. Top Clearance Allow additional 4 clearance at the top, or at least 7 10 total height Power Cord The power cord exits from the top of the wine vault, approx. 6 from the front edge and 8 from the left side. 7' 6 1 /4" Side Clearances Allow additional 1/2 clearance on each side, or total width 7' 9" Rear Clearance Allow additional 1/2 clearance at the rear, or total depth Internet access port 8' 8 1 /2" Allow 48 clearance for door swing and cooling unit 4

5 Required Clearances The wine vault can be installed in a location that is at least: 7 10 high, 8 9-1/2 wide, /2 deep (including 48 clearance at the front). This area provides 1/2 of clearance to adjacent walls on the back and sides. The 7 10 height provides a 4 clearance needed to raise and position the ceiling panels. Check to be sure that there are no overhead obstructions, such as ductwork, light fixtures, or vents. Check to be sure the wine vault will not cover needed electrical outlets. Check access to the installation location. Can large panels pass through stairways and corners? Approximately 52 turning radius is required for the largest panel. Allow 48 clearance at the front for a full door swing. The 48" clearance also provides adequate air circulation space to exhaust the warm air from the cooling unit. Decorative Enclosures The ceiling of the wine vault is not designed to support objects of any kind. Do not design an enclosure that requires support from the top or ceiling of the wine vault. Do not plan to use the ceiling for storage of any kind. Assembly Planning Four people are required to assemble the wine vault. Plan to complete the entire assembly of the wine vault at the same time. Do not allow unsupported wall panels to remain standing. The base channels, walls and ceiling must be completely assembled and secured at the same time. Flooring Requirements Do not install the wine vault on carpet. If carpet is present, it MUST be removed. Carpet at the front of the wine vault can prevent a smooth door opening and should also be removed. The wine vault can be installed over a nonporous surface such as cement, ceramic tile, laminate, a sealed wood floor, or a material approved for below-grade installation. Decorative flooring may be installed inside the assembled vault. The floor should be solid and capable of supporting a total of 4,600 lbs. (within the National Building Code for residential construction of 100 lbs. per sq. ft.). Consult an architect or structural engineer to be sure that the floor provides adequate support. The floor must be level. If the floor is not level (more than 1 over a 4 ft. slope), the wall and ceiling panels will not align properly and may cause operating problems. If necessary, use a leveling compound according to manufacturers recommendations. A finished hard-surface floor of your choice may be installed inside the wine vault. (Flooring not supplied.) If you plan to install a finished floor beneath the wine racks, the top of the wine racks will be closer to the ceiling. Some space would be lost at the top of the wine racks where large bottles might be stored. Pre-planning and coordination with the installer may be necessary. Always check that the threshold or flooring transition does not interfere with the door sweep. 5

6 ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS A 120V, 60 Hz, 30-amp dedicated power supply is required. A dedicated 30-amp branch circuit must be properly grounded and protected by a time-delay fuse. Wiring for the cooling unit, lights and touch screen computer is routed through a single power source with a NEMA L5-30P twist-lock plug that must mate with the NEMA L5-30R electrical receptacle. The power cord will exit at the top of the vault. Plan to install the electrical outlet within the guidelines shown below. It should be in an inconspicuous location towards the left side. In a built-in situation, the connection may be hard-wired, using conduit, by a qualified electrician. All installations must be according to local codes. The electrical system in the wine vault is protected by a surge protector to prevent damage caused by power surges and spikes. L5-30P Plug L5-30R Receptacle It is important to locate the electrical receptacle where it will be accessible. The exact location of the receptacle must be planned depending on the installation situation. LOW CEILING Ceiling height is under 8 ft. (7 10 min.). The receptacle must be installed in an accessible location, approx. 7 8 above the floor, OUTSIDE the vault installation location (footprint).
