7 CADD Pump Quick Reference CADD Prizm VIP Model 6100 and 6101 Ambulatory Infusion Pump Programming Screens Reservoir Volume: Volume of fluid in filled reservoir Continuous Rate: Continuous rate of drug delivery in ml/hr Milliliters Given: Displays total amount delivered since date and time shown Air detectors caused multiple errors in the field, so most companies, including QualMed, do not use them on the Prizm pumps. Alarms & Troubleshooting The CADD-Prizm pump signals with audible alarms and messages on the display when a condition requires your attention. In addition to referring to this table, use the? key while the alarm is occurring for information about the alarm and corrective action. Reservoir Volume Low Level of fluid in the reservoir is low. Prepare to install a new reservoir. Reservoir Volume Zero Reservoir volume is 0.0 ml. Press NEXT to stop alarm. Install new reservoir if appropriate. 9-volt Battery Low 9-volt battery is low but pump is operable. Change battery soon. 9-volt Battery Depleted 9-volt battery is depleted and cannot operate pump; install fresh battery immediately. High Pressure Possible blockage downstream (between pump and patient), clamp or kink in fluid path. Find cause and remove blockage to continue. Or, press STOP/START to stop pump and silence alarm; remove blockage and restart pump. Upstream Occlusion (Model 6101 only) Fluid is not flowing from the reservoir to the pump. Check for a kink, a closed clamp or an air bubble in tubing between reservoir and pump. Press STOP/START to silence alarm for two minutes; remove obstruction and restart pump. Error Detected Pump fault occurred. Close tubing clamp, remove pump from service. 3 Beeps Every 5 Minutes; Stopped on Main Screen Pump is stopped. Start pump if appropriate. 8 History and Recordkeeping Functions The pump may be running or stopped to view functions or to print. To View Event Log To Clear Dose Counters To Clear Units Given 1. Press OPTIONS. 2. Press Y or N until Event Log option appears. 3. Press ENTER to display Event Log. 4. Press N to page back through Event Log entries or Y to page forward. 5. When finished, press NEXT. A demand dose must be programmed and the pump must be in LL0 or LL1. 1. Stop the pump. 2. Press NEXT repeatedly until Dose Counters screen appears. 3. Press ENTER to clear and update date and time. Pump must be in LL0 or LL1. 1. Stop the pump. 2. Press NEXT repeatedly until Milliliters Given, Milligrams Given or Micrograms Given screen appears. 3. Press ENTER to clear and update date and time. WARNING: This Quick Reference Card should be used by clinicians only. Do not permit patients to have access to this card, as the information would allow access to all programming and operating functions. Assistance with the CADD-Prizm pump is available 24 hours a day by calling in the USA and Canada. Important to do. This is a common omission and can be frustrating in the field. 8 Section 3: CADD Pump Field Guide
9 Programming / Setup Sequence To go to the next programming screen without changing a displayed setting, press NEXT. During programming, the pump may ask you to confirm certain settings; press Y or N as appropriate. These screens are dependent on other settings and may not appear. Battery must be installed; pump must be stopped and in Lock Level On Main Screen, press NEXT. Enter Reservoir Volume 2. Press Y or N to select desired Reservoir Volume. 3. Press ENTER. Enter Units 4. Press Y or N to select desired units. 5. Pres ENTER. *Enter Concentration 6. Press Y or N to select desired Concentration. 7. Press ENTER. Enter Continuous Rate 8. Press Y or N to select desired Continuous Rate (select the upper limit if the program will be adjusted in LL1). 9. Press ENTER. Enter Demand Dose *Enter Demand Dose Lockout Time *Enter Max Doses Per Hour *Clear Dose Counters Clear Units Given Check Air Detector Status *Insert New Patient Marker Review Program If Operating in LL1 with Upper Limits, Decrease Continuous Rate or Demand Dose 10. Press Y or N to select desired amount of patient activated demand dose (select the upper limit if program will be adjusted in LL1). 11. Press ENTER 12. Press Y or N to select desired time between Demand Doses. 13. Press ENTER. 14. Press Y or N to select desired number of Demand Doses per hour. 15. Press ENTER. 16. Press ENTER to clear the Dose Counters; this updates the date and time markers. 17. Press ENTER to clear the Dose Counters; this updates the date and time markers. 18. If air detector is attached, check the Air Detector status, then press NEXT. 19. Press ENTER to insert a New Patient Marker in the Event Log. 20. Press Y (this clears the previous Extended History). 21. Press NEXT repeatedly to review program. If pump will be operated in LL1 to allow adjustment of continuous rate or demand dose (up to the maximum entered in LL0): 22. Change lock level to LL Press NEXT to go to Continuous Rate or Demand Dose screen. 24. Press N to scroll down to starting value. 25. Press ENTER. Follow steps for attaching cassette, priming fluid path, starting pump. Field Guide Section 3: CADD Pump 9
10 Changing the Cassette To Remove Used Cassette 1. Stop the pump. 2. Close all tubing clamps. 3. Use key to unlock used cassette. 4. Use side of key or coin to unlatch used cassette. 5. Disconnect tubing from patient. 6. Remove and discard used cassette. To Attach New Cassette 1. Close tubing clamp. 2. Insert new cassette hooks into pump s hinge pins. 3. Place pump with cassette on firm surface and push down on top of pump. 4. Use coin or side of key to hatch cassette. 5. Use key to lock cassette. 6. The mark on latching button must line up with solid dot on side of pump Priming the Fluid Path Using the Prime Option 7. Gently twist and pull on cassette to make sure it is attached properly. 8. When Cassette Locked appears, press NEXT. 9. If Reset Reservoir to ml? appears, press Y if appropriate. 10. When Prime Tubing? appears, open tubing clamp and press Y if appropriate. Follow priming instructions on pump s screen. When primed, close tubing clamp. 11. If applicable, thread tubing through Air Detector. 12. If AutoLock not in use/change Lock Level from LL0? appears, press Y. Change the lock level to LL1 or LL2 (see To Change Lock Level). 13. When Start the Pump? appears, connect new tubing to patient s access site, open tubing clamp, and press Y. The priming feature is available either: a) when you attach a cassette (above), or b) in the Options Menu. To access the Prime option in the Options Menu: Pump must be in LL0 or LL1. 1. Stop the pump 2. Press OPTIONS. 3. Prime should be displayed; press ENTER. 4. Follow priming instructions on pump screen. 10 Section 3: CADD Pump Field Guide

The pump needs to be running or stopped (circle one) to perform this task. 3) How do you ensure the concentration of the medicine is correct before administering a clinician bolus via the CADD pump? 4) What lock level should the CADD pump be in for narcotic administration? 5) A nurse is working on a Saturday and has been called to replace a foley catheter on a patient who has a CADD pump running. Does the nurse need to clear the pump (boluses and total amount) if the patient s pain is well-controlled and the only reason for the visit was to change the foley catheter? Yes or No (Circle correct answer) 6) Please check the instances when a nurse should double-check the CADD settings with another RN/infusion pharmacist or medical director and chart to that effect. When: increasing an oral medicine with a doctor s order. changing a narcotic cassette and not changing any settings. changing any settings on a CADD pump. starting nebulizers. changing any settings on an intrathecal pump. 7) How often should a CADD pump be cleared (bolus and total amount)? 8) What is the maximum amount of time a bag or cassette can hang before being changed? 9) How many extra bags/cassettes should be in a pt s home at all times? 10) How often should you change the battery? 11) What should you do if a pt with a CADD pump dies? 12) When do you start a new infusion flowsheet? 13) How do you prime a line using the CADD pump?
