3 Bryant VRF Advantages IT TAKES an efficient solution You know what your building needs. Zoned comfort, better air quality, energy efficiency, design flexibility and long-term savings. Nothing delivers them all like a Bryant Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system. We utilize a 2-pipe system for both heat pump and heat recovery. Through it, you can power up to 64 independent indoor units, providing precise, energy-efficient comfort control on a zone-by-zone basis. You can cool one room while heating the other or simply provide comfort to only the zones that are in use. WHAT IS VARIABLE REFRIGERANT FLOW (VRF) Bryant VRF systems provide precise, highly efficient comfort control. The name says it all: Variable Refrigerant Flow moves refrigerant to the specific zone that needs to be heated or cooled. It s the ultimate flexibility in HVAC: the refrigerant s flow can vary from location to location, delivering just what each zone needs. No more. No less. SIMULTANEOUS HEATING & COOLING A simplified 2-pipe design provides heat recovery and flexible refrigerant flow, Bryant VRF makes it possible to heat and cool different zones on a single refrigerant piping system at the same time. This also helps increase efficiency by capturing what would have been wasted energy from one space and returning it to the other as useful energy. 1

4 Bryant VRF Advantages COMPRESSOR Bryant rotates the operating sequence of the outdoor units and individual compressors. By spreading the operating hours evenly, occupants can enjoy balanced, consistent comfort. Inverter-driven compressors eliminate rush currents and on/off power surges as the system adjusts to demands. They also reduce the risk of compressor failure, more common in standard non-inverter systems. Should there be a failure, the outdoor unit provides greater backup capability, allowing the system to continue to operate and maintain comfort while the faulty compressor is isolated, repaired or addressed. ENERGY EFFICIENT You can t build today without making energy efficiency part of the equation. Our VRF systems improve climate control and minimize energy loss by heating and cooling different rooms at the same time. They circulate the minimum amount of refrigerant necessary to satisfy the building load and each individual zone while capturing what would have been wasted energy from one space and returning it to the other as useful energy. Coupled with that, outdoor units employ one or more Inverter-driven compressors, and each operating sequence is rotated to balance operating hours and load distribution. This means that the system operates at it s most efficient range more often, providing reduced energy consumption, and a more reliable system. AN EASIER SIMPLER INSTALLATION Our VRF systems require very little. There s no need for distribution fans, water pumps and large hydronic pipes or space-consuming maintenance rooms or service shafts; making them easy to install, while freeing up valuable space in the building. 5 Bryant VRF Advantages BRYANT VRF SCROLL COMPRESSOR Bryant VRF Inverter-driven compressors can precisely match the building s cooling and heating demands, mostly operating within the most efficient frequency range, 50 to 80 Hz. With the compressors operating together, there s an increase in long-term durability. 8 Bryant VRF Advantages VRF INSTALLATION MADE SIMPLE Bryant VRF was designed with the installer in mind, from the reduced piping connections to the control wiring method to startup and much more. Reduce Piping Connections Two-pipe heat recovery system with innovative multi-port distribution control (MDC) provides simultaneous cooling and heating while reducing refrigerant pipe connections by reducing the number of joints between the outdoor unit and MDC. The centrally located MDC allows for the use of soft copper line sets making installation simpler and faster. = 2 Connections Single Chassis Design (Heat Recovery Only) The single chassis design reduces the footprint of the outdoor unit. It reduces electrical connections by providing a single point power connection. And, thanks to a non-modular design that eliminates the need to twin outdoor units together in the field, it reduces the amount of piping work that has to be done on site. Controls Quick Connects All indoor units and MDCs are provided with a quick connect controls system. This allows for the use of accessory wire with preinstalled connectors or field-provided wiring with use of the included terminal accessory. This makes controls wiring faster and helps to reduce mis-wiring during installation. 6

9 Bryant VRF Advantages Controls Wiring Method/Design The controls wiring method more closely follows the piping arrangement. Heat pump systems use a daisy chain control wire configuration, while heat recovery systems use a hub and spoke design to wire from the outdoor unit to the MDC and then from the MDC to each indoor unit. By allowing the control wire to follow the piping design, installation becomes more intuitive for the contractor. Controls Wiring System Setup There s no need to access tight spaces above a ceiling to adjust rotary dials or dip switches in order to adjust or set functions on indoor units. Instead, all functions can be set up from a handheld Wireless Remote Controller or Wired Remote Controller. All of the functions are written in an easy-to-understand format, which saves time on system setup and start up. Our single-heat recovery system means a single-point electrical connection. This makes servicing the unit easier as you only have one disconnect to switch off and lock out. You ll also find tremendous savings when you compare triple-module units vs. a single-module unit for the same tonnage. 10 Bryant VRF Advantages HEAT RECOVERY Bryant VRF heat recovery utilizes a 2-pipe system that allows for simultaneous heating and cooling. Multi-Port Distribution Controller The heat recovery system uses an outdoor multi-port distribution controller (MDC) with options from 6 to 16 ports, which acts as a central location allowing better refrigerant distribution to all indoor units. This controller can connect up to 32 different indoor units, and configuration typically takes less piping and connections. The main MDC can connect up to two sub MDC controllers allowing for up to 64 indoor units to be connected to a system. The main multi-port distribution controller can connect up to two sub multi-port distribution controllers to provide longer piping runs. 13 Bryant VRF Advantages SINGLE-PHASE If you have a space that is too small for a standard VRF system, yet too large for residential ductless, our Single-phase VRF heat pump system is the perfect answer. It delivers the efficiency, flexibility and control of VRF but in a smaller capacity package and lower power requirement. With Bryant VRF, you can also integrate a Single-phase with a 3-phase heat pump and heat recovery to create one VRF system without additional controls.
