1 INTRODUCTION The 1600 Series Rotating Suction Screen is an Electric Motor (Hydraulic Option Available) driven, Self-Cleaning Suction Screen. It is ideally used for pumping water from canals, reservoirs, ponds, lakes, rivers, creeks, sumps, effluent ponds, manure sumps, etc.., The Rotating Suction Screen helps to prevent algae, sticks, leaves and other solids from obstructing your Suction Line. The 1600 Series Rotating Suction Screen will greatly reduce or eliminate downtime due to maintenance issues as well as save money on operating costs from decreased power consumption. OPERATION All 1600 Series Rotating Suction Screens are Electric Motor driven and operate in a vertical or near vertical position. A Hydraulic Drive System can be used where required and allows for installation in any position. The 1600 Series Rotor Screen will instantly start rotating the moment that your pump starts: this provides a powerful and continuous washing action on the screen while it is driven through the water. This is a very desirable feature as conventional units require water pressure to rotate the screen and pressure is not generally available at startup because the system must come up to pressure before it is available to rotate and wash the screen. Water is drawn into the screen as it rotates around stationary internal washing jets, which sprays pressurized water back through the rotating screen, continuously back washing and dislodging debris from the screen. The washing jets are supplied with water from a supply line from the pressure side of the pump. The supply line must be large enough to supply a minimum of 35 P.S.I. at the washing jets. The higher the pressure at the washing jets, the more effectively the screen will be cleaned. MATERIALS OF CONSTRUCTION Electric Drive Motor (See attached Motor Specifications) Drive Couplings Cast Aluminum Drive Pucks Rubber Drive Bearings UHMWP (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) Rotor Screen Sealing Gasket EPDM Material Inlet Manifold, Inlet Neck, Screen Cage Assembly, Motor Tower and Drive Shaft are constructed of 304 Stainless Steel. The Rotor Screen Mesh is offered in 10 (.075 opening), 12 (.060 opening) or 16 mesh (.045 opening) and is 304 Stainless Steel Wire Mesh. All Bolts and Nuts (Hardware) are 18-8 Grade Stainless Steel. Ring Gasket supplied is Non-Asbestos Material (NA) INSTALLATION The 1600 Series Rotating Suction Screen is shipped fully assembled and ready to install. You will need to tap into the pressure side of your pump, after the filtration system and install a pressure return line to the Rotor Screen. The return line should be 1-1/2 or a 2 Line if using a Double Wand System, or a single wand using more than 27 GPM. The Electric Gear Motor needs to be wired so that the gear motor starts automatically when the pump starts.
