1 AVENGER HT THERMOSTAT RETROFIT INSTRUCTIONS In this installation manual: You will remove the existing mechanical thermostat from the Avenger HT dishwasher and will replace it with a new solid state thermostat. TOOLS REQUIRED: Wire Crimper for insulated terminals Control Screwdriver (for setting dip switches) Towel & Shallow tray (2 deep) draining tank 5/16 Wrench (nut driver or ¼ socket set recommended) Needle-nose Pliers 7/16 Wrench Wire Stripper Phillips Head Screwdriver 1 DISCONNECT ALL POWER TO THE DISHMACHINE BEFORE BEGINNING THIS PROCESS. LOCK OUT/TAG OUT IN ACCORDANCE WITH APPROPRIATE PROCEDURES AND CODES. Below is a photo overview of the components that are modified in these instructions: the thermostat (step 3), the probe (step 10) and the wash motor contactor (step 13). Note: the wash motor contactor can also be located due to the violet/white wires attached to its coil. STEP 3 STEP 13 STEP 10 2 Using a Phillips head screwdriver, remove the two screws from the bottom of the front dress panel. Lift up the panel and pull out gently. 3 Disconnect top (orange/white) and bottom (this may be blue or white depending on configuration) wires from the existing thermostat. 2 4 Cut spade terminal off bottom wire from old thermostat (blue or white depending on configuration) from step 3 and then crimp a ¼ red female terminal to that wire. 5 Connect the 4-pin and 5-pin connectors to the new thermostat. Starting with the blue wire from the 4-pin connector (slot 1), trace its length until you come to a blue female terminal and connect that blue terminal to the L1 tab on the new thermostat. 6 Trace the loose end of the blue wire from the L1 tab to the red male terminal and connect that with the bottom wire from the old thermostat (blue or white) in step 4. 7 Find the orange/white wire that was removed from the old thermostat in step 3. Remove and discard the spade terminal jumper (jumper may have 20 printed on it). 8 Connect the remaining orange/white wire to the orange/white wire from the 4-pin connector (slot 2). If terminals do not mate due to different manufacturers, cut the female terminal off the orange/ white wire (from the old thermostat) and crimp new red female terminal (from retrofit kit) to it. Now connect the orange/white wires described above. 2 of 5

3 (WARNING: Make sure machine has had time to let water in the booster tank cool. IF WATER IS NOT COOL, THE WATER TEMPERATURE [190 ] COULD CAUSE SERIOUS BURNS.) Expect approximately 1/2 gallon of water to drain from the booster tank. If step 9 and 10 are done rapidly, minimal water will drain from the booster tank. 9 In preparation of step 10, slide a new ¼ Imperial brass fitting onto the new rinse probe (both included in the retrofit kit). Also position the towel and shallow tray under the probe area to catch the water in step Using 7/16 wrench, loosen the brass fitting and then remove the rinse probe and brass fitting (expect water to start draining out of booster tank here). Quickly insert the new probe and new brass fitting into the same open hole on the booster tank. Tighten fitting on probe with a 7/16 wrench; make sure to leave ¼ of the probe exposed. Cut or remove any zip ties and P-clamps that secure the thin tubing that connects the old probe to the old thermostat. Try not to break/cut the thin tubing. 11 Connect the black/white wire from the 5-pin connector (slot 4) to the black/white wire from the probe. 3 of 5

4 12 Connect the black wire from the 5-pin connector (slot 5) to the black wire from the probe (Refer to pictures in step 11). 13 Remove one of the red wires from the B side of the Wash Motor Contactor (top center area of the top contactor). Plug the piggyback terminal (enclosed in retrofit kit) into the newly opened tab and then plug the red wire back onto one of the piggyback tabs. 14 Connect the separate red wire from the retrofit kit onto the other open tab of the piggyback terminal (on the B side of the Wash Motor Contactor). (Refer to pictures in step 13) 15 Connect loose end of the red wire from the retrofit kit into the L2 tab of the new thermostat. 16 Align the thermostat on the bracket as shown below in the picture. Note: 5-pin connector and blue adjustment knobs should be closest to the bracket s two side mounting holes. Fasten using the two #6-32 screws 5/8 long (enclosed in kit). 4 of 5

5 17 Adjust the settings for the thermostat as follows: set dip switch #1 to the 1 position (1 set closest to the numbers and 2, 3, 4 set away from the numbers). Make sure that on dip switch #2, none of the pins are set (all pins set away from the numbers). Note: the switches can be moved with either a fingernail or control screwdriver through the protective film. Blue dials should all be set as indicated in the picture below (or mid-position between the two stops) 18 Using 5/16 wrench, remove old thermostat and bracket. Using same studs and nuts, attach the new thermostat and bracket where the old thermostat bracket was removed. 19 Before start-up, the unit must be protected against an exposed heater element in the booster tank. Disconnect the 4-pin connector from the thermostat. FILLING THE WASH TUB: For the initial fill, close the door and ensure that the MANUAL switch light is not on. Turn power on to the machine and then turn power switch to ON position and listen for water to start flowing until it stops. Turn power switch to OFF and the machine will drain. Repeat this one more time and on the third power switch ON, open the door and verify the water level is up to the bottom of the pan strainer. 5 of 6

6 Disconnect all power to the dishmachine and lock out/tag out in accordance with appropriate procedures and codes. Now reconnect the 4-pin connector to the thermostat. Turn power on to the machine and turn the power switch to the ON position and wait until tank heats to set point. 20 Adjust the top blue knob on thermostat until desired temperature is achieved (between 180 F and 195 F for entire rinse cycle). Clockwise increase temperature. Total adjustment is ± 10 F. 21 Reattached front cover and tighten the two Phillips head screws in the lower corners. 6 of 6
