Just a little preventive care on your part can save you a great deal of time and money over life of your air conditioner. You'll find many answers to common problems in chart of troubleshooting tips. If you review our chart of Troubleshooting Tips first, you may not need to call for service at all. To prevent injury to user or or people and property damage, following instructions must be followed. Incorrect operation due to ignoring of instructions may cause harm or damage. If power cord is damaged, it must be replaced by manufacturer or an authorized service center or a similarly qualified person in order to avoid a hazard. Do not direct airflow at room occupants. 3 IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS When air filter is to be removed, do not touch metal parts of unit. May cause an injury. Do not use strong detergents, wax or thinner; use a soft cloth only. Finish may be damaged. Operation with windows open may cause wetting of indoor and soaking of household furniture. CAUTION Stop operation and close windows in storm or hurricane. Clean filter once every t wo weeks. Do not put a pet or house plant where it will be exposed to direct air flow. This could injure pet or plant. Do not clean air conditioner with water. Water may enter unit and degrade insulation. It may cause an electric shock. When unit is to be cleaned, switch off, and unplug. Do not clean unit when power is on as it may cause fire, electric shock, or injury. Hold plug by head of power plug when taking it out. Ventilate room well when used toger with a stove, etc. An oxygen shortage may occur. Do not use for or than human comfort. Do not use this air conditioner to preserve precision devices, food, pets, plants or art objects. It may cause deterioration of quality, etc. If bracket is damaged, re is concern of damage or injury due to falling of unit. Ensure that outdoor support bracket is not damaged due to prolonged exposure. Disconnect power when not using unit for a long time. Operation without filters may cause failure. It may cause appliance failure or accident. shock. Use caution when unpacking and installing. Sharp edges could cause injury. Do not place obstacles around air-inlets or inside of air-outlet. CAUTION This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical,sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge, unless t hey have b een gi ven supervision or instruction concerning use of appliance by a person responsible for ir safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that y do not play with appliance. If supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard. This appliance should be installed in accordance with national wiring regulations. Do not operate your air conditioner in a wet room such as a bathroom or laundry room. The appliance with electric heater shall have at least 3 ft. space to co mbustible materials. Contact an authorized service technician for repair or maintenance of this unit. Contact an authorized installer for installation of this unit. 3

4 IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS NOTE: The power supply cord with this air conditioner contains a current detection device designed to reduce risk of fire. Please refer to section "Operation of Current Device" for details. In event that power supply cord is damaged, it cannot be repaired-it must be replaced with a cord from Product Manufacturer. WARNING Avoid fire hazard or electric shock. Do not use an extension cord or an adaptor plug. Do not remove any prong from power cord. Grounding type wall receptacle Do not, under any circumstances, cut, remove, or bypass grounding prong. Power supply cord with 3-prong grounding plug and current detection device WARNING For Your Safety Do not store or use gasoline or or flammable vapors and liquids in vicinity of this or any or appliance. WARNING WARNING Operation of Current Device (Applicable to unit using current detection device only ) The power supply cord contains a current device that senses damage to power cord. To test your power supply cord do following: 1. Plug in Air Conditioner. 2. The power supply cord will have TWO buttons on plug head. Press TEST button, you will notice a click as RESET button pops out. 3. Press RESET button, again you will notice a click as button engages. 4. The power supply cord is now supplying electricity to unit. (On some products this is also indicated by a light on plug head.) Prevent Accidents To reduce risk of fire, electrical shock, or injury to persons when using your air conditioner, follow basic precautions, including following: Be sure electrical service is adequate for model you have chosen. This information can be found on serial plate, which is located on side of cabinet and behind grille. If air conditioner is to b e in stalled in a window, yo u will probably want to clean both sides of glass first. If th e window is a triple-track type with a screen panel included, remove screen completely before installation. Be sure air conditioner h as been securely an d correctly installed according to installation instructions in this manual. Save this manual for possible future use in removing or installing this unit. When handling air conditioner, be careful to avoid cuts from sharp metal fins on front and rear coils. Electrical Information The complete electical rating of your new room air conditioner is stated on serial plate. Refer to rating when checking electrical requirements. Be sure air conditioner is properly grounded. To minimize shock and fire hazards, proper grounding is important. The power cord is equipped with a three-prong grounding plug for protection against shock hazards. Your air conditioner must be used in a properly grounded wall receptacle. If wall receptacle you intend to use is not adequately grounded or protected by a time delay fuse or circuit breaker, have a qualified electrician install proper receptacle. Ensure receptacle is accessible after unit installation. Do not run air conditioner without side protective cover in place.this could result in mechanical damage within air conditioner. Do not use an extension cord or an adapter plug. Do not use this device to turn unit on or off. Always make sure RESET button is pushed in for correct operation. The power supply must be replaced if it fails reset when eir TEST button is pushed, or it cannot be reset. A new one can be obtained from product manufacturer. If power supply cord is damaged, it cannot be repaired. It MUST be replaced by one obtained from product manufacturer. 5 BEFORE YOU BEGIN Read se instructions completely and carefully. IMPORTANT- Save se instructions for local inspector s use. IMPORTANT- Observe all governing codes and ordinances. Note to Installer- Be sure to leave se instructions with Consumer. Note to Consumer- Keep se instructions for future reference. Skill level- Installation of this appliance requires basic mechanical skills. Completion time- Approximately 1 hour. We recommend that two people install this product. Proper installation is responsibility of installer. Product failure due to improper installation is not covered under Warranty. You MUST use all supplied parts and use proper installation procedures as described in se instructions when installing this air conditioner. CAUTION Do not, under any circumstances, cut or remove third (ground) prong from power cord. Do not change plug on power cord of air conditioner. Aluminum house wiring may present special problemsconsult a qualified electrician. When handling unit, be careful to avoid cuts from sharp metal edges and aluminum fins on front and rear coils. Do This First (for existing sleeve) Note that air conditioner dimensions are: 24 inches wide, 14 inches high, and 18 inches deep(without front). Install Air Conditioner according to se installation instructions to achieve best performance. Save se installation instructions for future reference. 6 How to Install 1. Identify wall-sleeve brand for your installation, from chart below. CAUTION: When installation is complete, replacement unit MUST have a rearward slope as shown. REAR Wall Sleeve / UNIT 1 /4 to 5 /16 FRONT LEVEL 2. Remove old Air Conditioner from wall sleeve and prepare wall sleeve as follows: --- Clean interior (do not disturb seals). --- Wall sleeve must be securely fastened in wall before installing Air Conditioner. Drive more nails or screws through sleeve, into wall, if needed. --- Repair paint if needed. 3. If not existing, drill a 1/8 clearance hole for grounding screw through left side of wall sleeve, in a clear area about 3 inches maximum back from front edge of sleeve, using grounding screw and tood washer. Pull loose end of ground wire out front of sleeve, and temporarily bend it down and around lower edge of sleeve.this ground wire will later be attached to frame of air conditioner once it is installed. 7 IMPORTANT This units increased performance characteristics result from having two rear air intakes. It is very important that se installation instructions are followed so your unit can operate at maximum efficiency. If this is an existing sleeve, and re is an existing rear grille, it needs to be replaced by one that has been shipped with unit in accessory kit. FOR INCREASED EFFICIENCY,UTILIZE THE PROVIDED LOUVERED REAR PANEL Installation of new grille provided with unit 1. Remove existing grille. 2. Place grille included with new air conditioner towards rear of sleeve. 3. Mark through hole positions. 4. Drill through sleeves flanges with a 1/8" drill bit. 5. Attach new grille with self-threading screws and washers. 6. It is VERY IMPORTANT that grille is placed exactly as shown below. 7. Most decorative exterior grilles may be left in place as long as proper interior air direction grille is installed. 7

16 Direct Unit Mounting: The previous directions are preferable way to mount new rear grill. The units performance is slightly better and possibility of drafts is reduced. As a last resort, direct mounting of grille to unit can be considered. Note: The grille must be installed prior to inserting unit into sleeve. 1. Attach 2 seal pieces (1 X3/8 X14 ) as shown in Fig Position grille over rear of unit making sure that: a. The double set of screw holes are at bottom. b. The fins of grill are pointed away from unit. 3. Align top of grille with top of unit. The overhang on each side is equal. 4. If unit has not been pre-drilled (some models), carefully drill 4-1/8 holes through grille and into side flange of unit approximately 1 1 /2 to 2 from top and bottom as in Fig. 2, 3. (Be careful not to drill into copper heat exchanger coils.) 5. Install 4 - #8 self tapping screws to affix grille to unit. 6. Insert unit into sleeve

17 FINISHING INSTALLATION: 1. Install 1 x1 1 /2 x84 long stuffer-seal between wall-sleeve and unit. A flat-bladed screwdriver or putty knife is recommended. 2. Assemble trim frame by inserting top and bottom pieces into side pieces and snapping into place. 3. Pull cord through trim frame n slide over unit until flush with wall. 17

18 NORMAL SOUNDS High Pitched Chatter High efficiency compressors may have a high pitched chatter during cooling cycle. Vibration Unit may vibrate and make noise because of poor wall or window construction or incorrect installation. Sound of Rushing Air At front of unit, you may hear sound of rushing air being moved by fan Pinging or Swishing Droplets of water hitting condenser during normal operation may cause pinging or swishing sounds. Gurgle/Hiss Gurgling or hissing noise may be heard due to refrigerant passing through evaporator during normal operation. NOTE: All illustrations in this manual are for explanation purposes only. NOTE: The unit will initiate automatically Energy Saver function under Cool, Dry, Auto (only Auto-Cooling and Auto-Fan) modes. (Electric Heating Models) Auto Cool Dry Energy Saver Mode Fan TEMP/TIMER TEMP/TIMER On Timer Off Sleep Fan (Cooling Only Models) Check Filter Follow Me Auto Low Med High TO CHANGE TEMPERATURE SETTING: Press / UP/DOWN button to change temperature setting. NOTE:Press or hold eir UP( ) or DOWN ( ) button until desired temperature is seen on display. This temperature will be automatically maintained O O O O anywhere between 62 F(17 C) and 86 F(30 C). If you want display to read actual room temperature, see To Operate on Fan Only section. 18

19 AIR CONDITIONER FEATURES TO ADJUST FAN SPEEDS: Press to select Fan Speed in four steps-auto, Low, Med or High. Each time button is pressed, fan speed mode is shifted.for some models, fan speed can not be adjusted under HEAT mode. On Dry mode, fan speed is controlled at Low automatically. SLEEP FEATURE: Press Sleep button to initiate sleep mode. In this mode selected temperature will increase O O (cooling) or decrease (heating) by 2 F/1(or 2) C 30 minutes after mode is selected.the t emperature will n increase (cooling) or decrease (heating) by O O anor 2 F/1(or 2) C after an additional 30 minutes. This new t emperature will be maintained f or 6 h ours before i tr eturns to th eoriginallyse lectedtemperature. This ends Sleep mode and unit will continue to operate as originally programmed. The Sleep mode program can be cancelled at any time during operation by pressing Sleep button again. CHECK FILTER FEATURE: Press Check filter button to initiate is feature. This feature is a reminder to clean Air Filter for more efficient operation. The LED(light) will illuminate after 250 hours of operation. To reset after cleaning filter, press Check Filter button and light will go off. ENERGY SAVER FEATURE: Press Energy saver button to initiate this function. This function is available on COOL, DRY, AUTO (only AUTO-COOLING and AUTO-FAN) modes.the fan will continue to run for 3 minutes after compressor shuts off.the fan n cycles on for 2 minutes at 10 minute intervals until room temperature is above set temperature, at which time compressor turns back on and Cooling Starts. FOLLOW ME FEATURE:(on some models) Follow Me Light flashing This feature can be activated from remote control ONLY. The remote control serves as a remote rmostat allowing for precise temperature control at its location. To activate Follow Me feature, point remote control towards unit and press Follow Me button. The remote display is actual temperature at its location. The remote control will send this signal to air conditioner every 3 minutes interval until press Follow Me button again. If unit does not receive Follow Me signal during any 7 minutes interval, unit will beep to indicate Follow Me mode has ended. TO SELECT THE OPERATING MODE: To choose operating mode, press Mode button.each time you press button, a mode is selected in a sequence that goes from Auto, Cool, Dry,heat(cooling only models without)and Fan. The indicator light beside will be illuminated and remained on once mode is selected. The unit will initiate automatically Energy Saver function under Cool, Dry, Auto(only Auto-Cooling and Auto-Fan) modes. To operate on Auto feature: When you set air conditioner in AUTO mode, it will automatically select cooling, heating(cooling only models without), or fan only operation depending on what temperature you have selected and room temperature. The air conditioner will control room temperature automatically round temperature point set by you. In this mode, fan speed cannot be adjusted, it starts automatically at a speed according to room temperature. To operate on Fan Only: Use this function only when cooling is not desired,such as for room air circulation or to exhaust stale air(on some models). (Remember to open vent during this function, but keep it closed during cooling for maximum cooling efficiency.) You can choose any fan speed you prefer. During this function, display will show actual room temperature, not set temperature as in cooling mode. In Fan only mode, temperature is not adjusted. To operate on Dry mode: In this mode, air conditioner will generally operate in form of a dehumidifier. Since conditioned space is a closed or sealed area, some degree of cooling will continue. TIMER: AUTO START/STOP FEATURE: When unit is on or off, first press Timer button, TIMER ON indicator light illuminates. It indicates Auto Start program is initiated. When time of TIMER ON is displayed,press Timer button again, TIMER OFF indicator light illuminates. It indicates Auto Stop program is initiated. Press or hold UP or DOWN button to change Auto time by 0.5 hour increments, up to 10 hours,n at 1 hour increments up to 24 hours.the control will count down time remaining until start. The selected time will register in 5 seconds, and system will automatically revert back to display previous temperature setting or room temperature when unit is on.(when unit is off,re is no display.) Turning unit ON or OFF at any time or adjusting timer setting to 0.0 will cancel Auto Start/Stop timed program. 19

NOTE: If unit shuts off unexpectedly due to power cut, it will restart with previous function setting automatically when power resumes. ADDITIONAL THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW Now that you have mastered operating procedure, here are more features in your control that you should become familiar with. The Cool circuit has an automatic 3 minute time delayed start if unit is turned off and on quickly. This prevents overheating of compressor and possible circuit breaker tripping.the fan will continue to run during this time. The control is capable of displaying temperature in degrees Fahrenheit or degrees Celsius. To convert from one to or, press and hold Left and Right Temp/Timer buttons at same time, for 3 seconds. Air Directional Louvers Air Directional Louvers Louvers Center handles Air Direction(4- way) Air directional louvers control air flow direction.your air conditioner has 4-way directional system described below.the louvers will allow you to direct air flow Up or Horizontal, and Left or Right throughout room as needed.use center handles to adjust air directional louvers side-to-side until desired Left or Right direction is obtained.pivot horizontal louvers with your fingertips until desired Up or Horizontal direction is obtained.there are a total of 4 possible air directional orientations available with this system. CARE AND CLEANING Air Filter Cleaning CAUTION Clean your air conditioner occasionally to keep it looking new. Be sure to unplug unit before cleaning to prevent shock or fire hazards. The air filter should be checked at least once a month to see if cleaning is necessary. Trapped particles in filter can build up and cause an accumulation of frost on cooling coils. 20

21 CARE AND CLEANING Air Filter Cleaning Take filter by center and pull up and out. Wash filter using liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water. Rinse filter thoroughly. Gently shake excess water from filter. Be sure filter is thoroughly dry before replacing. Or, instead of washing you may vacuum filter clean. Note: Never use hot water over 40 C(104 F) to cl ean th e a i r fil ter. Never attempt to operate unit without air filter. Winter Storage If you plan to store air conditioner during winter, remove it carefully from window according to installation instructions. Cover it with plastic or return it to original carton. Energy Saving Note: In order to reach maximum energy saving and comfort, it is recommended to use a cover to insulate unit when unit is not in use. The recommended size for unit is 24.4 x14.8 x2.2 (WxHxD). Cabinet Cleaning Be sure to unplug air conditioner to prevent shock or fire hazard. The cabinet and front may be dusted with an oil-free cloth or washed with a cloth dampened in a solution of warm water and mild liquid dishwashing detergent. Rinse thoroughly and wipe dry. Never use harsh cleaners, wax or polish on cabinet front. Be sure to wring excess water from cloth before wiping around controls. Excess water in or around controls may cause damage to air conditioner. Plug in air conditioner. TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS Before calling for service, review this list. It may save you time and expense. This list includes common occurrences that are not result of defective workman-ship or materials in this appliance. Problem Air conditioner does not start Solution Wall plug disconnected. Push plug firmly into wall outlet. House fuse blown or circuit breaker tripped. Replace fuse with time delay type or reset circuit breaker. Plug Current Device Tripped. Press RESET button. Power is OFF. Turn power ON. Air from unit does not feel cold enough O O Room temperature below 62 F(17 C ). Cooling may not occur until room temperature O O rises above 62 F(17 C). Temperature sensing behind air filter element touching cold coil. Keep it from cold coil. Set to a Lower temperature. Compressor stopped when changing modes. Wait for 3 minutes after set to COOL mode. Air conditioner cooling, but room is too warm- ice forming on cooling coil behind decorative front. O O Outdoor temperature below 64 F(18 C). To defrost coil, set FAN ONLY mode. Air filter may be dirty. Clean filter. Refer to Care and Cleaning section. To defrost, set to FAN ONLY mode. Thermostat set too cold for night-time cooling. To defrost coil, set to FAN ONLY mode. Then, set temperature to a Higher setting. 21

Close doors, windows, registers. Unit recently turned on in hot room. Allow additional time to remove Stored heat from walls, ceiling, floor and furniture. Air conditioner turns on and off rapidly Noise when unit is cooling Water dripping INSIDE when unit is cooling. Water dripping OUTSIDE when unit is cooling. Remote Sensing Deactivating Prematurely (some models) Room too cold Dirty air filter- air restricted. Clean air filter. Outside temperature extremely hot. Set FAN speed to a Higher setting to speed up airflow. Air movement sound. This is normal. If too loud, set to a slower FAN setting. Window vibration - poor installation. Refer to installation instructions or check with installer. Improper installation. Tilt air conditioner slightly to outside to allow water drainage. Refer to installation instructions - check with installer. Unit removing large quantity of moisture from humid room. This is normal during excessively humid days.
