4 Push Brooms Sweeping is not a one-broom-fits all activity. The key is the surface and the debris. It is important to make sure that you use the right broom that will really sweep clean. Every Furgale broom is built for specific debris and surfaces. Furgale has learned from professionals, contractors and retailers who absolutely have to have the right tool for the job. There are many different fibers that Furgale uses in their brooms all with features and advantages that make them perfect for the job. Natural Fibers Horsehair blend is a natural fiber that is ideal for dust and light dirt on smooth surfaces. Tampico is a natural fiber that is resistant to heat, acid and alkali and effectively cleans medium debris from smooth and semismooth surfaces. Palmyra is a natural fiber that is ideal for both wet and dry sweeping applications and is effective with medium and heavy debris on both semi-smooth and rough surfaces. Bass is a very course natural fiber that is ideal for removing heavy debris from rough surfaces. Synthetic Fibers Synthetic fibers are man made fibers made from polystyrene, PET, nylon, PVC and polypropylene. These materials are very durable and can be used in wet and dry sweeping applications. Synthetic fibers come in a variety of diameters, stiffness and colors. For fine debris, the ends are often mechanically split, forming multiple feathered tips to pick up fine dust and dirt on smooth surfaces. These fibers are not recommended for use on wet surfaces. At Furgale Industries, we have begun to examine the make up of our products as well as where we can change our manufacturing process to be as environmentally responsible as possible. We are searching the world for better components that are both environmentally friendly and manufactured in an environmentally friendly fashion. As a simple example, we have found Rubber Trees in Malaysia that have a limited life-time for producing rubber. At the end of their useful life span, they are cut down and burned. Since they are very wet, twisted wood they are not useful for dimension lumber. They are however excellent for the length of wood we require for push broom blocks. This allows us to manufacture our brooms, while decreasing the carbon footprint of the manufacturing process. At Furgale we have begun the process of environmental stewardship through developing a program of products that are manufactured from Natural, Biodegradable materials. This includes fibers as well as component pieces. We are also reviewing the impact of our manufacturing processes and that of our suppliers to make our effort in protecting the environment successful.
