3 Earth Day Event April 21 st 172 Volunteers worked to pick-up litter. Positively impacting over two miles of stream/river shoreline. Event Headquarters: Andrews Park Areas Cleaned: Andrews Park, Pond behind D.Q., Hwy. 169 Bridge Area including runoff ponds, Dayton Road, and Trail/Wetland behind Target Volunteer Hours including from ERC Commissioners and a generous donation of box dinners from Jimmy John s make this a low cost/high impact event. The only City cost was for water/soda at $48.43.

5 Refuse Contract Renewal In 2015 the City renegotiated a five year contract with Champlin Refuse Inc. (CRI) for refuse collection. Using a market survey and current trends the City was able to reduce the cost for refuse collection over the term of the contract. The City Council passed this contract savings on to the consumer in the form of reduced refuse rates for Residential Rates Large Cart (Approx. 90 Gallons) Medium Cart (Approx. 60 Gallons) Small Cart (Approx. 30 Gallons) 2014/2015 Actual Rate Proposed 2016 Rate Prior to Contract Actual 2016 Rate Under Contract $17.48 $18 $16.25 $14.01 $10.54 $14.43 $10.86 $12.75 $9.25 Note: Refuse rates shown cover the cost of refuse collection, disposal, yard waste, billing, etc. The CRI contract is a piece of this cost as it only covers refuse collection.

Residents purchase a sticker at City Hall and contact their hauler for collection on the normal collection day. On-Site Composting City Code Chapter 46 Solid Waste establishes the guidelines for on-site composting
8 Spring Recycling Events Drop-Off Event - May 2 Champlin Plaza Scrap Metal 16,500 lbs. Tires 46 tires Small Engines 200 items Bicycles 115 (2,900 lbs.) Propane Tanks 85 tanks Paper Shredding 7,240 lbs. Electronics 18,163 lbs Curbside Collection May 4 A total of 126 Appliances were collected. The consumer paid the actual cost of $5. Drop-Off Program Cost: There was no cost to the City or resident to dispose of small engines, bicycles, and some electronics. The City made $517 on the scrap metal. Residents were asked to pay directly for the actual cost of disposal for tires, propane tanks, televisions and computer monitors. The City paid for the cost of paper shredding at $450. So the over all net was $67 revenue for the recycling fund. Items Collected: Washers, Dryers, Stoves, Refrigerators, Freezers, Dishwashers, Microwaves, Air Conditioners (Any Size), Water Heaters, Dehumidifiers, Humidifiers, Water Softeners
9 Farmers Market Display July 15 th The ERC co-hosted a booth with the Bee Friendly Champlin Task Force. Information on best practices for promoting and supporting bee and other pollinators, including reducing the use of pesticides and planting flowers that provides food for bees was provided. Other information included: Champlin High Priority IDDE Promotion/Information and Map (Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination) On June 22, 2015 Mayor Nelson Proclaimed the City of Champlin a Bee-Safe City
10 Arbor Day April 26 th Tree Saplings 700 Norway Pine seedlings were distributed to Jackson Middle School students in grades 6-8. There is no cost for this program to the City. The MN Department of Natural Resources Forestry Division provided the trees. ERC Commissioner Tom Moe transported the trees. Jackson Middle School students volunteered the day before to pack the trees for distribution to their classmates on Arbor Day.
11 Rain Gardens The ERC supported the development and maintenance of raingardens throughout the City through the following activities: Metro Blooms Speaker on May 13 th Grants for Rain Garden projects Municipal campus rain gardens and Northland Park rain gardens Grant Awards Dick Brown, 701/519 E.
