2 1.0 Introduction 1.1 Purpose 1.2 Scope This test report is the abbreviated qualification of the IBC Brand Fiber Optic Connector Cleaner MT38 II cleaning tools based on the conclusions from AEN-1142 (Cleaner MPO II). Contamination, impact, durability, and life cycle testing was performed to verify functionality of the new tip. Three cleaners were subjected to the contamination, durability, life cycle and five cleaners for the impact testing as shown in Table 1. Each of these tests (with the exception of impact testing) was repeated until the connector passed the inspection, up to three cleaning iterations. The end faces were visually inspected all fibers and pictures of fibers were recorded. Typical results for photographs representative of each test are shown in Appendix A. For each trial, the following photographs were taken: Initial clean connector endface Contaminated endface Cleaned endface 1.3 Abstract The IBC Brand Fiber Optic Connector Cleaner MT38 II cleaning tools were tested against various contaminants and subjected to impact, durability, and life cycle testing. All cleaners tested proved to be effective cleaning devices with the necessary durability to withstand simulated field conditions. The results showed that the MT38 II cleaning tools performed very well to be considered as US Conec s recommended method of cleaning MT based D38999 and other hardened connectors. 1.4 Product Description The IBC Brand Fiber Optic Connector Cleaner MT38 II cleaning tool, shown in Figure 1, is designed for cleaning the fiber arrays on MT based D38999 and other hardened connectors. 2 Figure 1: The IBC Brand Fiber Optic Connector Cleaner MT38 II
3 2.0 Test Requirements The tests below are required for the qualification of The IBC Brand Fiber Optic Connector Cleaner MT38 II: TEST PROCEDURE REQUIREMENT PERFORMANCE Contamination Keyence Digital Videoscope using the Non Removable pass/fail criteria Three cleaners for each test with connector adapter and cleaner cap against flat connectors according to IEC Using the following contaminants: Arizona road dust and Vegetable oil Inspection Criteria: IEC See Table 2. Acceptable performance for all contaminants Impact Release 5 cleaners from a height of 1.5m for 10 repetitions per cleaner with varied angles. Verify cleaner operation. No functional damage at 1.5m No functional damage at 1.5m Durability Cycle three cleaners through cleaning operation on connectors with adapters repeating 500 cycles. Verify function with a single dust contamination. Inspect for damage. No functional damage No evidence of damage Life Cycle Count number of cycles until the cloth end. > 525 cycles MT38 II cleaner > 525 cycles 1 Note - only road dust, vegetable oil, <70% IPA residue, and NaCl residue are required by IEC All other contaminants are a customer specific requirement.
