1 Important Read all instructions and identify all parts before assembling and installing pump. Observe all local plumbing and electrical codes and the National Electric Code. Electrical installation should only be done by qualified personnel. ASSEMBLING AIR PUMP (Refer to Figure.). Remove orange plugs from pump head (one inlet, one outlet). With ¼ Allen wrench, remove remaining two outlet plugs, leaving the two other inlet plugs installed.. Install pressure gauge () and air regulator valve [ARV] (), in any of the indicated outlet ports. Use Teflon tape on male connections.. Install check valve () in the remaining outlet port. Arrow should point away from the pump.. Thread the three mounting feet (0) into the base of the pump. When using shelf option, use isolator studs () and secure to shelf () with lock washers (8) and nuts (9).. Keep tube (8), second check valve (), and connectors () for installation.. Install inlet filter () in an inlet port. Do not allow foreign material to enter pump. SETTING HEAD PRESSURE Air pump should be assembled before continuing. (Refer to Figure.). With a wrench, loosen the ARV lock nut (B) by turning it counterclockwise on the ARV.. Turn adjustment nut (A) counterclockwise until tension in spring (C) is relieved. This will allow air to flow freely out of the ARV.. Plug air pump power cord (9) into a receptacle of the proper voltage ().. With the pump () running, block the outlet check valve (). Air should flow freely from the ARV and the pressure gauge should be near zero. NOTE: The ARV setting is the pressure at which air will no longer be injected into the water stream. For example, if the well pump turns on at 0 psi and off at 0 psi and the ARV is set to 0 psi, air will only be injected for the first half of the pump cycle while the water pressure is between 0 and 0 psi.. Watching gauge (), turn the ARV adjustment nut (A) clockwise to increase to a selected pressure in the range of the well pump cycle. For hints on adjusting the air injection, see Adjustments to Air Injection. CAUTION DO NOT EXCEED 00 PSI AT ANY TIME. DO NOT SET THE ARV HIGHER THAN PSI.. Secure the lock nut (B) against the ARV body and disconnect power.

2 INSTALLATION OF AIR PUMP (Refer to Figure.). Consider the location of the air injection point () before mounting. Do not locate the air pump outdoors. Do not install where it will be subjected to water spray, extreme heat, or where it might be easily dislodged. Install above all possible high water conditions. Do not install the air pump where the motor vibration may transmit through the building.. Install a ¾ tee () in the water line at the inlet of the aerator () and use a bushing to provide a ¼ female thread for the second check valve ().. Install second ¼ check valve () in the ¾ tee () with arrow pointing into the water line.. Thread a tubing connector () onto each of the two check valves ().. Connect tubing (8) between air pump and injection point () being sure line is not kinked or stretched. Tighten tube connector nuts () securely. ELECTRICAL WARNING AIR PUMP MOTOR IS THERMALLY PROTECTED AND WILL AUTOMATICALLY RESTART WHEN PROTECTOR RESETS. DISCONNECT POWER SUPPLY BEFORE INSTALLING AND SERVICING. Important ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION SHOULD ONLY BE DONE BY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL. The existing well pump installation must contain a low impedance equipment grounding conductor and comply with the National Electric Code and any local codes. Any non-compliant preexisting installations must be corrected according to the latest version of the applicable codes before installing the air pump. The controlled single-outlet device is to be used only for the air pump. Any other use may be unsafe. Affix the included warning sticker to the outlet. All components must bear an Underwriters Laboratories (UL) mark and be suitable for conditions. Determining Electrical Installation Method The National Electric Code (NEC) sets rules for the safe operation of two motors by one pressure switch. The included diagrams are elementary illustrations to help guide toward a typical codecompliant installation. Variations in local codes may affect actual installation requirements. In order to install according to Figure Electrical, be sure one of the following two sets of conditions is met. If neither of the conditions is applicable, refer to Figure Electrical.. The well pump and the air pump must be in a single room, and both must be within 0 feet and visible from the pressure switch. The branch circuit disconnect (either the circuit breaker box, the fuse box, or a disconnecting switch box) must be within 0 feet and visible from the pressure switch. The pressure switch must be rated to handle the combined HP of the well pump and the air pump (/ HP). Switch ratings are usually found inside the cover.

3 NOTE: This will apply to most jet pump applications. Use a heavy duty pressure switch rated 0V/ 0V if necessary (see Figure ).. The branch circuit disconnect (either the circuit breaker box, the fuse box, or a disconnecting switch box) must be within 0 feet and visible from the pressure switch. The pressure switch must be rated to handle the combined HP of the well pump and the air pump. The fuse or circuit breaker is not greater than 0V or 0V. The full-load amperage of the well pump is A or less. NOTE: This will apply to most 0V submersible pumps rated ½ HP or less. This will not apply to most 0V submersible pumps. If the well pump amp draw cannot be determined, refer to Figure Electrical, which by the use of a relay avoids the NEC rules regarding two motors on one pressure switch. ADJUSTMENTS TO AIR INJECTION The amount of air injection needed will vary by location and water conditions. Generally, the air injection should be set as low as possible while still providing adequate treatment. A higher ARV setting results in more air injection. Typical ARV settings will be slightly higher than the turn-on pressure of the well pump. AIR INJECTION Examples MINIMUM Well Pump 0/0 psi... ARV PSI Well Pump 0/0 psi... ARV 0 PSI When the well pump and the air pump start, air is added at the beginning of the cycle. When the water pressure at the injection point reaches the ARV setting, the air pump will continue to run but the excess air can be heard and felt escaping out the end of the ARV. The pressure setting of the ARV is consistent over long periods. However, a follow-up visit may be necessary to increase or decrease the air injection to meet water treatment needs. If the branch circuit protection is greater than 0A, a fusible disconnect (a pullout fuse block is one example) must be installed directly ahead of the pressure switch.
