7 What Does The Legislation Apply To? Application 2(1) Page 2 of the Act Subject to subsection (2), this Act applies to the manufacture, sale, installation, and alteration of appliances, house piping, vents, and gas installations This Act does not apply to: a piping system used to refine or process gas in any way; an internal combustion engine, turbine, or any other prime mover, other than a stationary engine that is supplied with gas by house piping; or appliances, house piping, vents, or gas installations that are exempted by the Commissioner in Executive Council from the operation of this Act.

Requirements for Permits 5.(1) Page 5 Regulations Subject to subsections 5(2) through 5(6) inclusive of this regulation, no person shall install or alter any gas equipment unless the person is a gas contractor licensed under these regulations, a licensed gas fitter employed by a gas contractor, a company holding a gas employer s license or a licensed gas fitter employed by a licensed gas employer.

9 Who May Perform Regulated Work Requirements for Permits 5.(1) Page 6 Regulations Where an individual is a registered gas fitting, plumbing or pipe fitting apprentice, they may work only under the direct supervision of a certified licensed gas fitter on equipment as specified under the terms of their apprenticeship agreement A person who is not a licensed gas fitter and who is employed by a service or repair agency that is an authorized representative of a manufacturer of appliances or parts thereof may carry out factory maintenance, service or warranty work on equipment specific to that agency s business without a permit

10 Who May Perform Regulated Work Continued A Yukon Gas Fitters License Is Required For Working On Gas Equipment In The Yukon. Fitters From Other Jurisdictions Must Obtain Their Yukon License By First Successfully Writing The Propane Addendum Exam Through Advanced Education And Then Applying For The Yukon License Through Building Safety Branch Contractors Must Have Their Yukon Gas Contractors License Apprentices Must Be Registered With Advanced Ed.

12 When Are Permits Required? Permits for installation or alteration 5(1) Page 3 of the Act Permits 6.(1) Page 6 of the regulations Subject to the regulations, no person shall install or alter an appliance, house piping, a vent or a gas installation unless a permit has been issued authorizing the installation or alteration. An inspector may issue a permit authorizing the installation or alteration of any equipment after the inspector has received an application in accordance with section 7 Not All Permit Applications Can Be Approved. However, Switching And/Or Changing Tanks Does Require A Permit For All Other Commercial And Industrial Tank Installations, A Separate Permit Is Required

16 When Are Inspections Required? Inspections 18 Page 14 of the Regulations Where a person has completed work under a permit, the person shall notify an inspector and request that a final inspection be done Prior to a final inspection and upon completion of each stage of the gas system authorized by a permit, an inspector may request an inspection at each of the following stages: (a) back filling of ground lines with pressure test on; (b) concealment of gas lines; and, (c) concealment of gas venting.

17 Can I Put The Installation into Service Without An Inspection? Authorization Before Use 7 Page 4 of the Act If an appliance, house piping, a vent, or a gas installation has been installed or altered, no person shall use or permit the use of the house piping, appliance, vent, or gas installation unless a permit has been issued and the inspector has approved the installation or alteration of the appliance, house piping, vent, or gas installation CALL US!!
