4 IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY When operating this electric appliance, basic safety instructions should always be followed. Refer to the following for these instructions 1. READ ALL SAFETY & USAGE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING. 2. Do not use appliance on wet or hot surfaces, or near a heat source. 3. To protect against electric shock, do not immerse any part of appliance, Electrical 3-conductor Cord Set: Appliance is equipped with a 3-conductor cord set that has a 3 prong grounding-type plug. It should be properly connected to a grounding-type SAFETY FIRST power cord or plug in water or other liquid. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. 4. To disconnect, unplug power cord from electrical outlet. Do not disconnect by pulling on cord. 5. Do not operate appliance with a damaged power cord or plug. Do not operate appliance if it malfunctions or is in any way damaged. For details, a 3-grounding outlet unit, and as such, the grounding prong should never be removed. If needed, purchase a 2-prong adapter and ground it to the outlet. Do not use an adapter unless you are SAFETY FIRST contact Consumer Services. 6. Use appliance only for its intended use. 7. Closely supervise children when using any electrical appliance. Do not allow appliance to be used as a toy. for assistance. 8. The appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce risk of electrical shock, this plug is intended to fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not modify plug in any way. A short power cord or a detachable power cord is provided to reduce the risks of resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord accidentally. 9. Caution: A short power cord is provided to reduce risks from entanglement or tripping over a longer cord. An extension cord may be used when marked electrical rating is no less than electrical rating of this appliance. All cords should not drape over counter or tabletop where cords can be tripped over or pulled on unintentionally, especially by children. 10. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or heated oven. Extreme caution must be used when moving products containing hot liquids. 11. Do not place the base of your kettle in a metal tray. If water spills over in to the tray, and a build-up occurs, it could become dangerous to touch. 12. Position the kettle to the rear of work surfaces to prevent over hanging of the power cord. 6 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING FOR THE FIRST TIME 1. Remove all of the various packaging, stickers or accessories from both the inside and outside of the kettle. 2. Taking care to keep the electrical components on the exterior of the kettle dry, wipe the interior of the kettle with a damp cloth. If your hand will not fit inside the kettle, swish warm, soapy water around the interior of the kettle with the lid closed. 3. Rinse out the inside of the kettle thoroughly with water. 4. With a damp cloth, gently wipe off the exterior of the kettle. Do not wipe electrical components as this may cause damage to the unit. 5. Dry all parts completely. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 6. It is recommended to run one boiling cycle through your kettle before using it. Following the instructions in To Boil Water (below), boil a full kettle of water. When water has boiled, pour it out and rinse the inside of the kettle once more. The kettle is now ready for use. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Plug the Power Cord into a wall outlet and place the kettle onto the Power Base. The kettle will beep once to indicate it is on. 6. Press the POWER ( ) button to turn the kettle on. The Blue Illumination Light will turn on and the kettle will begin heating the water. As the water begins to heat, the LED Display will show the temperature in real time. 7. Once the water reaches a boil, the kettle will beep three times and automatically stop heating. 8. Using the Easy-Grip Handle, lift the kettle off the Power Base to serve. Do not touch the glass body, it will be hot. 9. When finished serving, pour out any remaining water and unplug the Power Cord. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS TO BOIL WATER Place the base on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface away from water splashes and any sources of heat. 2. Make sure that the Removable Filter is properly inserted. See Removing and NOTE Never open the lid while water is boiling. If the kettle is heated with no water, the internal safety mechanism will automatically turn the kettle off. If the lid is not completely closed or if the filter isn t inserted correctly the kettle will not automatically turn off. USING THE STAINLESS STEEL TEA INFUSER Boil water to desired temperature. 1. Press the Lid Button and allow steam to disperse from the kettle. 2. Place tea to be brewed into the infuser. 3. Carefully insert the infuser into the kettle by holding the infuser handle, making sure the flat side of the infuser lays parallel to the removable filter. Close the lid and steep tea for desired length of time. 4. Once finished, remove the infuser from the kettle, close the lid and serve. NOTE: Loose tea or tea bags can be used in the infuser. Do not attempt to remove filter until the unit has cooled completely. Open the lid. 2. Grasp the tab on the filter and pull upward. The filter should slide out easily. 3. Wash and rinse the filter. Grasping the filter at the tab, slide the filter into the slots on the inside of the spout until the filter sits securely into place. Never immerse the kettle, its base, the cord or the electric plug in water: the electrical connections or the switch must not come into contact with water. Do not use scouring pads Wipe the exterior of the kettle with a damp cloth, taking care to avoid the CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE CLEANING THE FILTER The removable filter consists of a mesh to retain the particles of scale and prevent them falling into your cup when pouring. This filter neither treats nor removes the hardness of the water. It thus conserves all the qualities of the water. With very hard water, the filter can clog very quickly (10 to 15 uses). It is important to clean it regularly. If it is wet, put it under a running tap. If dry, then brush it gently. Sometimes the scale will not detach itself, it will then need de-scaling. To remove the anti-scale filter, lift the kettle off its base and allow to cool. Never remove the filter when the appliance is full of hot water. DE-SCALING De-scale regularly, preferably at least once a month- or more frequently if your CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE electrical components. 2. Clean the interior of the kettle with a soft sponge and warm, soapy water. If your hand does not fit in the lid opening, swish warm, soapy water is very hard.
