3 Installation continued Wall mounting. Remove the aluminium grease filters (perforated plates) by gently pulling down on the handles so that the interior of the cooker hood and the keyhole slots are exposed. The hood must be mounted directly over the cooking area. The minimum distance between the cooking surface and the underside of the hood must be 650 mm. for electric cookers and 750 mm. for gas burners. Get two people to help you hold the body of the hood in position against the wall and using a pencil, mark the two keyhole slots and the two retaining hole positions, on the wall. Using a masonry bit, drill a hole at the top of each marked slot and at the centre of the retaining hole marks. Insert a rawl plug into each hole. Using pan-head screws with a head diameter slightly smaller than the bottom opening of the keyhole slot, insert the screws part way into the marked keyhole positions. Leave about 5 mm of the screws proud of the wall. The Hood has the ability to either circulate the filtered air back into the kitchen or to exhaust the filtered air through an outside wall or chimney pipe. Decide on which option best suits your needs and proceed with the installation accordingly Option 1 Re- circulated air Fit the metal Y-piece on to the main body using the self tapping screws supplied Fit the larger of the two chimney pieces to the main body using the two self tapping screws supplied. Lift and hang the hood and chimney assembly onto the two keyhole mounting screws. Fit and tighten two suitable retainer screws ensuring all the while that the hood is level. Using the top chimney fixing bracket as a template, mark the hole positions. Drill and attach the fixing bracket to the wall at the marked positions. Reposition the top chimney piece so that the side holes correspond with the holes in the fixing bracket and secure with two self tapping screws. CEILING

4 Option 2 - Outside venting Fit the plastic spigot to the main body using the self tapping screws supplied Connect a 125 mm. diameter flexible duct straight onto the spigot flange. Ensure that the duct vents to the outside air. To prevent the risk of fire, do not lead the duct into an existing chimney or flue as the duct could carry airborne combustible grease and fats Fit the larger of the two chimney pieces to the main body using the two self tapping screws supplied. Electrical installation Connect the appliance to a 15A 230V 50 Hz earthed wall socket. Switch off the power at the mains in the event of a fault or when cleaning the appliance. 5 Operation Switch on the chimney hood prior to cooking. Select the fan speed you would require depending on the type of cooking being done. 3 for high extraction level, 2 for medium and 1 for low. If required, you can illuminate the cooking area by switching the hood lights on. Leave the hood running for a short period after the cooking has been completed to clear any smoke and odours. CAUTION There should be adequate ventilation of the room when the chimney hood is used at the same time as appliances using gas or other fuels. CAUTION Do not flambé under the chimney hood Maintenance CLEANING Disconnect the power before attempting any maintenance or cleaning. Remove the aluminium grease filters by gently pulling down on their handles. Wash the aluminium grease filters every month in a solution of warm water and dishwashing liquid. This will remove accumulated grease and fats and maintain extraction performance. Allow the filters to dry before re-fitting them. When washing is no longer effective, the aluminium filters should be replaced. Located on the fan housing is a round charcoal packed filter. This filter is designed to absorb and neutralise cooking odours. The life of the charcoal filter is approximately 2 years and when odour absorption is no longer effective it should be replaced. Remove the charcoal filter by gently turning it in an anti-clockwise direction. CAUTION If cleaning is not carried out in accordance with the instructions, the accumulated grease could, over time, become a fire risk. REPLACING A FAULTY LIGHT Disconnect the power Working from below the hood, grip the lamp retaining spring clip ends between thumb and forefinger. Squeeze the ends together and withdraw the clip This allows the lamp socket to drop from the lamp housing. Hold the lamp socket firmly and turn the lamp anti-clockwise to disengage it from the socket. Replace the lamp with a similar lamp 240V 50 W and re-assemble in reverse order.

6 Cleaning and maintaining stainless steel chimney hoods On stainless steel models, some components have a coloured protective film which protects against accidental scratching. This film should be removed before operating the hood. Stainless steel is not adversely affected by normal household use but because of it s reputation for durability, it is sometimes assumed to be indestructible, and therefore subjected to misuse or even abuse. Care should be taken to avoid such abnormal use. Cleaning materials DO USE A soft cloth or synthetic sponge. Soap Diluted dishwashing liquid. A nylon bristle brush. Cleaners labelled Suitable for stainless steel DO NOT USE Acids Coarse abrasive cleaning powders. Metallic scourers, steel wool or metal scrapers. Wire brushes or emery paper. So called silver cleaners. Kitchen scourers / foam pads Cleaning products containing Ammonia Cleaning procedure Frequent cleaning is recommended rather than an occasional aggressive clean. Routine cleaning will preserve the corrosion resistance and the appearance of the stainless steel for many years. Clean the stainless steel as often as necessary ( i.e. when noticeably dull or dirty ) and use the simplest cleaning method that will effectively do the job. Use clean water, or a mild detergent solution applied with a soft cloth or sponge. Rinse well and wipe dry. ALWAYS WIPE IN THE DIRECTION OF THE BRUSHED TEXTURE ON THE STAINLESS STEEL
