5 Getting Started with Your ithermostat Getting Started with Your ithermostat Overview Your ithermostat has a door that opens so you can access the buttons to operate and program the ithermostat. Open the ithermostat door: Gently pull the door down so the buttons are visible, as shown here. Close the ithermostat door: Push the door up until it snaps into place. ithermostat door 3

6 Getting Started with Your ithermostat ithermostat Buttons HOLD Holds system at current temperature setting until you release by pressing RUN. INFO Displays the information screen (if available) or moves to next info screen. PRGM Enters thermostat programming mode. SYSTEM Selects the system mode: cooling, heating, autochangeover, emergency heat (heat pumps only), or Off. FAN Controls your system s indoor fan. For energy efficiency, this is normally set to AUTO, but can be set to ON. RUN Cancels holds and returns system to programmed settings. Exits programming and saves all settings. TIER (Programming mode) Selects a price tier (Low, Medium, High, or Critical). SELECT (Programming mode) Toggles between temperature setpoint and period start time. MODE (Programming mode) Toggles between heating and cooling programs. Programming Functions The functions that appear below the buttons (TIER, SELECT, MODE) become active when you press PGRM to enter programming mode. Otherwise, these buttons perform their alternate functions, which appear above the buttons. 4

7 Getting Started with Your ithermostat ithermostat Display Message Area Indicates the current period of the day. Also displays other messages such as consumption, bill, rate, etc. if enabled and AUX if the strip heat of a heat pump system is turned on. Day of the Week Indicates the current day of the week. Time / Temperature Setpoint Displays the current time. Press up arrow, down arrow, or RUN once to display the current temperature setpoint. Displays OFF when the HVAC system is turned off. HOLD Flashing - Indicates a temporary system temperature hold. Solid (not flashing): Indicates a permanent system temperature hold. Antenna Icon Indicates that a system update or a web programming update to your thermostat s heating or cooling program, hold mode, or system mode is occurring. Press any key to remove the display of the antenna icon. System Indicator COOL Air conditioning is active HEAT Heat is active HEAT/COOL Auto-changeover is active (also displayed when system is Off) EMER Emergency heat (heat pump only) is active STG 1 First stage of heat or cool is running STG 1+2 First and second stage of heat or cool (if used) are running Room Temperature Displays the current room temperature. Note: Filter indicator (FLTR) not shown. See page 11. 5

8 Getting Started with Your ithermostat Normal Thermostat Display The normal thermostat display is what displays on your thermostat during normal operation. The following display elements appear in normal display: Time period Top left. DAY in this example. Day of the week Top. MO (for Monday) in this example. Current time Left center. 7:00 AM in this example. System mode Center. COOL in this example. Current room temperature Right. 75 in this example. Displaying the Current Temperature Setpoint To display the current temperature setpoint, press or once. The setpoint appears in the left center area where the time is normally displayed. Note: Pressing the up or down arrow key more than once will change the temperature setpoint temporarily (see Setting Temporary Holds on page 18). Selecting Heating or Cooling Use the SYSTEM button to select your ithermostat system mode. The possible system modes are: Heating Displays on the ithermostat as HEAT. Cooling Displays on the ithermostat as COOL. Auto-changeover (see below) Both HEAT and COOL icons are on. Emergency heat Displays EMER (flashing) and HEAT. Off Displays on the ithermostat as OFF. When heating or cooling is called (compressor turned On), STG 1 or STG 1+2 will display (depending on how many stages of heating/cooling your system is configured for). 6

9 Getting Started with Your ithermostat Auto-Changeover Mode In auto-changeover mode, ithermostat automatically switches between your heating and cooling programs to maintain your home s temperature within your programmed setpoints. The ithermostat will call for heat or cool as needed, but never both at the same time. Auto-changeover is convenient during the fall and spring when days may be cool in the early morning hours and hot in the afternoons. Important: In auto-changeover mode, the programmed heat setpoint must be at least 2 degrees lower than the cool setpoint. Selecting Heating or Cooling Follow this procedure to select the system mode. Q UICK G UIDE P ROCEDURE DISPLAY Press one or more times to select the desired mode. Press the SYSTEM button one or more times to select the desired mode. When heating is selected, HEAT is displayed. When cooling is selected, COOL is displayed. When auto-changeover mode is selected, both HEAT and COOL are displayed. When emergency heat is selected (heat pump systems only), EMER HEAT is displayed (EMER flashes). When the system is Off, OFF displays to the left. When heating or cooling is called (compressor turned On), STG 1 or STG 1+2 will display (depending on how many speeds your heating/cooling system is capable of using). Cooling On: System Off: 7

10 Getting Started with Your ithermostat Setting the Current Day and Time After establishing communication with the Gateway, the current day and time on your ithermostat will be automatically updated within 24 hours. In case the system does not update with the current the day and time, you may need to set it yourself manually. Q UICK G UIDE S TEP DESCRIPTION DISPLAY Press once. 1 Press PRGM. Press to select the day. 8 Press SELECT. The day of the month displays. Press and hold the up arrow or down arrow button until you reach the correct day. 12 Getting Started with Your ithermostat Resetting the FLTR Display If FLTR appears in your ithermostat display, this is a reminder that you need to change or clean the filter in your HVAC system. After you change or clean the filter, you can reset the display so FLTR no longer appears. Q U I C K G U I D E P R O C E D U R E D ISP L A Y Press both buttons at the same time. 13 Programming Your ithermostat Programming Your ithermostat This chapter explains how to manually program your ithermostat, including programming heating and cooling, and setting and clearing holds. Your ithermostat offers the following options for flexible programming: Separate programs for heating and cooling. Flexibility in how you program days of the week. You can program all 7 days separately if desired, or you can program the 5 weekdays and/or the 2 weekend days as groups. Four time periods per day Morning, Day, Evening, and Night. You can specify start times and temperatures for each time period. Conserve Energy While Maximizing Comfort The ithermostat s programming options help you maximize comfort during the times when you are typically at home. You can also conserve energy during the times when you are typically away from home or sleeping by allowing the temperature in your home to increase (summer) or decrease (winter). Periods of the Day Your thermostat allows you to program 4 different periods of the day: MOR (morning), DAY, EVE (evening), and NHT (night). You select the start time and temperature for each period. Press PRGM to cycle through the periods. Day of the Week Groups You can program days of the week individually or in groups, to create heating and cooling programs that work with your schedule. Weekday schedule Programs 5 weekdays together (displays as MO TU WE TH FR) Weekend schedule Programs Saturday and Sunday together (displays as SA SU) Individual day schedule Each day or group includes the 4 periods described above. Press PRGM to cycle through the days and periods. 11

14 Programming Your ithermostat Programming Tips Skipping a Day or Group If you don t want to program a particular day or group, you can skip it. Press PRGM one or more times until you reach the day or group you want to program. Programming Days in a Group If you want to program the days in a group basically the same with only slight differences, program the group first, then program individual days as needed. The individual day program overrides the group program for that day. Switching Between Cooling and Heating At any point in the programming process, you can switch between heating and cooling programs by pressing MODE. Display of -- or --:-- in Programming Mode If the temperature shows -- while in the programming mode for a group of days, it indicates that at least one of the days in the group has a different temperature program than the other days. If the time shows --:-- while in the programming mode for a group, it indicates that at least one of the days in the group has a different period start time than the other days. To find out which one is different, press PRGM to cycle through the individual days. You can make the setting the same for all the days within the group by changing the item (setpoint or time). 12

The thermostat enters cooling programming mode (COOL displays). If you want to program heating, press MODE (HEAT displays). Programming starts with the weekday schedule. The programmed temperature for the first period (MOR) flashes. Note: If you do not want to program the 5 weekdays together, press PRGM multiple times until you reach the day of the week you want to program. Temperature will flash: Press to select desired temperature. 2 Press the up or down arrow button to change the temperature to the desired setting for the MOR period. Temperature will flash: Press once. Press to select desired start time for MOR period. 3 Press SELECT. The programmed start time for the MOR period flashes. Press the up or down arrow button to select the desired start time for the MOR period. The time changes in 15 minute increments. Time will flash: Press once. 4 Press PRGM to move on to the next period (DAY). The start time for the DAY period flashes. Time will flash: Press once. 5 Press SELECT. The programmed temperature for the DAY period flashes. Temperature will flash: Repeat Steps 2 & 3. 6 Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to select the temperature and start time for the DAY period. 14

Press once. 8 Press PRGM to move on to the weekend schedule. Repeat steps 2 7 for the weekend schedule. Press to select the desired day. Repeat steps 2 to 7 for the selected day If you want to program Saturday and Sunday together, repeat steps 2 through 7 to program the periods of the day for the weekend schedule. Note: If you do not want to program the 2 weekend days together, press PRGM multiple times until you reach the day of the week you want to program. If you want to program any days of the week individually, press PRGM one or more times to select the day you want to program. The individual day schedule overrides the weekday or weekend schedule for the selected day. Repeat steps 2 through 7 to program the periods of the day for the selected day. Repeat Steps 10 & Repeat Steps 10 and 11 for any additional days you want to program individually. Press once. 13 Press the RUN button once to save and exit programming. Your thermostat is now ready to provide maximum comfort and efficiency. 15

18 Programming Your ithermostat Setting Holds You can override your heating or cooling program by setting a temporary or permanent hold. To clear holds, see Clearing Holds on page 19. Temporary Holds A temporary hold is when you override a programmed setting to be in effect until the next programmed time period begins (Morning, Day, Evening, or Night). You do not have to manually clear a temporary hold. When your next programmed time period begins, the temporary hold ends and the setting for the next time period is in effect. If desired, however, you can manually clear the hold at any time. Permanent Holds A permanent hold is when you override a programmed setting for an indefinite period of time. A permanent hold lasts until you manually clear it. The ithermostat display indicates a permanent hold by displaying the HOLD icon below the Day of the Week bar. Tip: Use a permanent hold when you go on vacation or have guests in your home and want to override your programmed settings for an extended period of time. Don t forget to clear it when you come back home or your guests leave. 16

Be sure your screen shows the normal display. Press the Up or Down arrow to change the temperature setpoint higher or lower. The first time you press an arrow button, the current temperature setpoint will display. Press the Up or Down arrow again to select the desired temperature. The HOLD icon flashes, indicating a temporary hold. The system will return to its normal, pre-programmed schedule at the beginning of the next period of the day. HOLD flashes: Tip: To clear a temporary or permanent hold at any time, press the RUN button. The HOLD icon stops flashing, indicating that you have placed the system on permanent hold. HOLD stops flashing: 17

20 Programming Your ithermostat Clearing Holds Q U I C K G U I D E D E S C R IPTIO N D ISP L A Y Press once in normal display. Make sure your display shows the normal display. Press the RUN button. The HOLD icon disappears, indicating that you have cleared the hold. This action clears temporary and permanent holds on heating and cooling. Tip: You do not have to manually clear temporary holds. When your next programmed time period begins, the temporary hold ends and the setting for the next time period is in effect. 18

21 Configuration Menu Options Configuration Menu Options Following are detailed descriptions of all available ithermostat Configuration Menu Options. Default settings have been pre-programmed and should provide optimum energy saving performance. However, you may choose to customize your configuration to further improve the performance. Accessing the Configuration Menu To access the Configuration Menu, press the SYSTEM button one or more times to set the system to OFF. Simultaneously press and to access the Configuration Menu. The display will show the first item in the Configuration Menu. Changing Settings To change a specific setting for a Configuration Menu item, use the up and down arrow buttons. Moving Between Configuration Menu Items To move between Configuration Menu items, use the SYSTEM button. 19

22 Configuration Menu Options Configuration Menu Options HVAC System Type This control can be configured for Heat Pump or two stage heat/two stage cool multistage operation. The display indicates "MS2" (default for multistage mode) in the display. Options for this menu item include: MS2 (Default setting) Conventional two-stage system with oil or gas heating SS1 Conventional single stage system with oil or gas heating HP2 Heat Pump two-stage HP1 Heat Pump single stage Tip: It is important to select the proper setting for the HVAC System Type option, even if you skip the rest of the Configuration menu. If you are unsure whether you have a single or two stage unit, ALWAYS select the two stage option (MS2 or HP2) and it will operate either system. Daily Programmable Periods This control can be configured for the number of programmable periods per day. The programmable periods can be toggled to 4, 2 or 0 by pressing the arrow buttons. With "PRG 0" selected for non-programmable, pressing the SYSTEM button will skip Energy Management Recovery (item 3, page 21) and Timed Hold (item 10, page 23). Options for this menu item include: PRG 4 (Default setting) Four time / temperature set points per day: MOR+DAY+EVE+NHT (Morning/Day/Evening/Night) PRG 2 Two time / temperature set points per day: OCCU+UOCU (Occupied/Unoccupied) PRG 0 No time / temperature set points. Thermostat will operate as nonprogrammable. Energy Management Recovery Feature With the Energy Management Recovery (EMR) feature ON (Default setting), the thermostat will start heating or cooling early to make the building temperature reach the programmed set point at the time you specify. Heating will start 5 minutes early for every 1 of temperature required to reach the programmed set point. If the feature is turned off, the thermostat will start heating or cooling exactly at the time you specify. 20

23 Configuration Menu Options Cycle Selection Feature The factory default setting is FA (fast cycle), which cycles the 1 st stage at approximately 1.2 F and the 2nd stage at 0.75 F. If you prefer slow cycle, press the temperature key to change to SL (slow cycle). With this setting, the 1 st stage and the 2 nd stage are cycled at 1.5 F and 1.2 F, respectively. Compressor Lockout Feature The default setting for this menu item is CL OFF. Selecting CL ON causes the thermostat to wait 5 minutes before turning on the compressor if the heating and cooling system loses power. It will also wait 5 minutes minimum between cooling and heating cycles. This is intended to help protect the compressor from short cycling. Some newer compressors already have a time delay built in and do not require this feature. Your compressor manufacturer can tell you if the lockout feature is already present in their system. When the thermostat compressor time delay occurs, it will flash the set point for about five minutes. Backlight Display Feature The display backlight improves display contrast for better visibility in low lighting conditions. When the "C" terminal is powered, select backlight CdL ON (Default setting) to keep the light On continuously. Select backlight OFF to keep the light on momentarily after any key is pressed. When the C terminal is not powered, the light will be on momentarily after any key is pressed, regardless of whether the backlight is ON or OFF. Second Stage Feature In the run mode, if the temperature setpoint is manually raised by 3 F (2 C) or more above the actual temperature with the up arrow button, and the fast second stage feature is enabled (FA ON, Default setting), the second stage will energize immediately. With FA OFF, second stage will not energize until the temperature setpoint is 1 F or more above actual temperature for more than ten minutes. Filter Replacement Feature The thermostat will display "FLTR" after a set time of operation. This is a reminder to change or clean your air filter. This time can be set from 0 (Default setting) to 1950 hours in 50 hour increments. A recommended value to use is 200 hours. A selection of 000 will cancel this feature. When "FLTR" is displayed, you can clear it by pressing HOLD and RUN at the same time. This resets the timer and starts counting the hours until the next filter change. Contact your HVAC system manufacturer for a specific replacement/maintenance interval. 21

24 Configuration Menu Options Temperature Reading Measurement Adjustment Allows you to adjust the room temperature display up to 4 higher or lower. Your thermostat was accurately calibrated at the factory but you have the option to change the display temperature to match your previous thermostat temperature reading. The current or adjusted room temperature will be displayed on the left side of the display. Default setting is 0. Timed Hold Feature This feature is not used. Temperature Readout Units Changes the display readout to Celsius (Centigrade) or Fahrenheit as required. Default setting is F (Fahrenheit). Limited Heat Range Feature This feature provides a maximum set point temperature for heat. The default setting is 90 F. It can be changed between 62 F and 89 F by pressing the up or down arrow button. Limited Cool Range Feature This feature provides a minimum set point temperature for cool. The default setting is 45 F. It can be changed between 46 F and 82 F by pressing the up or down arrow button. Compressor Run Time There are no configuration options required. Displays the total number of hours that the compressor has operated since the thermostat was installed or since it was reset manually. This can be cleared by pressing the up and down arrows at the same time. Offset Week End Day This feature is not used. Keypad Lockout This menu selection will display a lock ( ) icon. The up and down arrow buttons are used to toggle the function and display the lock icon and OFF (keypad not locked out, Default setting) indicating in the time digits to the lock icon and ON (keypad locked out). When the keypad lockout function is enabled (ON), and the SYSTEM key is pressed again, the display will indicate the number 0 (default, still disabled) in the time digits. 22

25 Configuration Menu Options The up and down arrow buttons set the combination number from 0 to 999. "0" is not a valid combination. If a combination of 0 is selected and the SYSTEM key is pressed, the menu will be exited and keypad lockout will not be evoked. If 1 to 999 is selected and the SYSTEM key is pressed again, the combination is locked into non-volatile memory and the menu is exited. The lock icon (to designate keypad locked with a valid combination) will display when the menu is exited. The SYSTEM key will operate for 10 seconds after the menu mode is exited to allow the user to change the mode from OFF to the desired system mode. While the keypad is locked out, a simultaneous press of the up and down arrow buttons enters the menu item from any mode instead of only OFF mode. When the menu is entered with the keypad lockout feature enabled, the first menu item displayed is the combination code 0. The up and down arrow buttons are used to set the combination unlock number from 0 to 999. If the unlock number matches exactly with the combination lock number stored in memory when the SYSTEM key is pressed, the keypad is unlocked and the lock icon is removed. If the unlock number does not match when the SYSTEM key is pressed, menu is exited and the keypad remains disabled. Reset Operation Pressing the and and SYSTEM at the same time will reset the thermostat to its factory default setting. This will also clear all programming and reset all configuration settings to their default values. 23

26 Troubleshooting Assistance Guide Troubleshooting Assistance Guide This section will help you troubleshoot common issues you may encounter with your ithermostat. If you encounter a problem that is not listed here, contact ithermostat customer service at ithermostat Display Display is Blank. Make sure the RC/PS switch is in the proper position. If there is a wire attached to the C terminal, the switch should be in the RC position. If there is no wire in the C terminal, the switch should be in the PS position. The ithermostat gets its power from the indoor air handler. If your HVAC equipment has power, then contact ithermostat customer service at for additional support. Time is not correct. Wait for about one minute after power interruption for the system to reset the time. If the time is still not correct after several minutes, set the time manually as described on page 8. Display is flashing. If flashing COMM ERR Call ithermostat customer service at If flashing +2 Normal operation. o With a heat pump, indicates the resistance strip heat (Aux) is operating in conjunction with the heat pump compressor. o For a two-speed compressor, indicates that the compressor is operating in the high speed. If flashing HOLD Normal operation. Indicates a temporary hold is in place. Press RUN to reset. 24

27 Troubleshooting Assistance Guide The light stays On, does not flash (Light next to UP/DOWN buttons). Normal operation. Indicates that a curtailment event is in effect or a test signal has been sent. If the light is On and the buttons will not change the display, your ithermostat may need service. Call ithermostat customer service at Display numbers/segments are fading out. This may be the result of a Power Stealing issue usually caused when an ithermostat is not installed with a 5 th or common wire. Contact ithermostat customer service at Programming Temperature setting will not go lower or higher. The upper or lower ithermostat temperature setting limits may have been reached. The default lower limit is 45 and the default upper limit is 90. To change temperature limits, see page 23. Check to ensure that you are not in programming mode. Press the RUN button once until the normal display appears. Try to change the temperature again. Thermostat program has disappeared. Ensure that someone else has not changed the program. If no one else has changed the program, the schedule may have been lost. The ithermostat s schedule is stored in a non-volatile memory. The ithermostat may have sustained a large electrostatic discharge, erasing its memory. In this case, the default setting will be displayed in the programs. Temperature changes at wrong time. The ithermostat has an intelligent algorithm (Energy Recovery Management) that automatically starts the heating/cooling system before the scheduled start time so that the desired temperature is reached at the scheduled start time. This feature can be disabled from the Configuration Menu (see page 20). The ithermostat may be set in the HOLD (override) mode. Press RUN to reset the hold and go back to the programmed setpoint. Recheck program for current settings versus the program settings. Make sure the thermostat s clock is set to the correct time (including AM/PM), Time Zone, and date. See Setting the Current Day and Time on page 8. Make sure AM and PM are correct for each period in the program. 25

28 Troubleshooting Assistance Guide Temperature display is incorrect. The electronic ithermostat is very accurate and maintains the setpoint more accurately than non-electronic thermostats (within +/- 1.0 degree). While programming, body heat can increase display temperature. Wait about 10 minutes for the ithermostat to re-establish the actual sensed temperature. The ithermostat can be configured for Fahrenheit (F) or Celsius (C) display. If the temperature displays 20 to 25 degrees, it may be in Celsius (Centigrade) mode. To change modes, see page 23. Make sure you are looking at the correct temperature display. The current temperature setpoint is alternately displayed with the time on the left side of the screen. The ithermostat displays the current room temperature on the right side of the screen. If the HOLD icon is displayed, the ithermostat is set for a permanent hold. Press RUN to reset the hold and go back to the programmed setpoint. If the displayed setpoint is not what you want, review your programming settings and reprogram as needed. The house is too warm or too cold. If the setpoint equals the room temperature, press the up or down arrow buttons to adjust the temperature setpoint as desired for a temporary hold. If discomfort occurs frequently, reprogram to higher or lower temperatures for desired comfort or change operating mode to obtain a better match between energy use and desired lifestyle. Check to ensure that the ithermostat is in the correct HEAT or COOL mode by pressing the SYSTEM button. The ithermostat is OFF when the display shows OFF on the left side of the display. Check filter condition and replace if necessary. Under excessive temperature loads (high/low outdoor temperature), even before the ithermostat was installed, was the heating/cooling equipment capable of maintaining the desired indoor temperature setpoint? If not, the heating/cooling system may need service or possibly an upgrade. Schedule a service call with an HVAC contractor for inspection of proper refrigerant levels, airflow, etc. How do I skip a time period? There is no capability within the ithermostat to skip a period. If you want a period to be identical to the previous period, simply program it to the same start time and setpoint as the previous period. 26

29 Troubleshooting Assistance Guide ithermostat current setpoint does not match the display temperature. The ithermostat may be in recovery from a setback period or curtailment event. Depending upon thermal load of the system, it may take time for the temperature to reach the desired setpoint. Under excessive temperature loads (high/low outdoor temperature) the heating/cooling equipment may not be capable of maintaining the desired indoor temperature setpoint. The Heating/Cooling system may need servicing or upgrade. You may want to schedule a service call with an HVAC contractor for inspection of proper refrigerant levels, airflow, etc. In some cases, when the ithermostat is located on or around the indoor air handler closet and the heater closet and the return air box is not sealed, the air handler will draw outdoor or colder air down the wall cavity or through the ithermostat. The wall cavity, heater closet and return air box must be sealed. The heating or cooling may be in a temporary or permanent Hold. Press RUN to reset the hold and go back to the programmed setpoint. Thermostat current programmed setpoint does not match programmed temperature. Check to make sure that a curtailment event is not in effect. If a curtailment event is in effect, the thermostat light is On. The temperature will return to your programmed temperature when the curtailment event ends. Holds Hold override does not work. A permanent hold remains in effect independent of user schedule. To clear a permanent hold, make sure the ithermostat is in normal display and press RUN. Temporary hold cannot be set. Make sure unit is set for Cool or Heat mode and try again to set the hold. The first press of the up or down arrow button changes the display from clock to current temperature setpoint. Make sure you press the arrow buttons again to actually change the setpoint. If it still does not work, call ithermostat customer service at

30 Troubleshooting Assistance Guide Temporary hold disappears from the screen and allows the temperature to revert to the normal settings. Normal operation. A temporary temperature hold setpoint remains in effect until the next program time period begins. If a more permanent hold is desired, press the HOLD button. Equipment Fan will not turn Off. The ithermostat fan setting may be in the On position. In this position, the fan will continuously run. Change it to the Auto position. ithermostat may be currently calling for heat or cool. This is normal operation. Fan will turn off automatically once the heating/cooling is satisfied if the fan is in Auto mode. If the fan is in Auto mode and heating and cooling system is not operating, and the fan will not turn off, the air handler fan relay switch is likely bad. Call your HVAC contractor. This may be the result of a Power Stealing issue usually caused when an ithermostat is not installed with a 5th or common wire. Contact your HVAC technician to add a common wire or call ithermostat customer service at Heating/Cooling equipment has an internal fan overrun where the fan continues to run after the heating or cooling unit turns off. Typical fan overrun times are 1-2 minutes following the heat or cool system shut down. Fan will not turn On. Make sure that the furnace power switch is turned on and that the ithermostat fan switch is in correct position (see page 4). Some heating and cooling equipment has a built-in time delay before the fan is activated. It may take up to 90 seconds to activate. Set the heating setpoint 5 degrees above the room temperature. Wait 5 minutes for the fan to be activated. If the fan does not activate, you may have blown a fuse or tripped a circuit breaker. Heat will not come On. Make sure system is set to heat mode. Press the SYSTEM button until the HEAT icon is displayed. Check whether a curtailment event is currently in progress by looking at the light next to the up and down arrow buttons. If the light is On, then a curtailment event is in progress and your heating system is temporarily disabled. 28

31 Troubleshooting Assistance Guide If the display on the thermostat is blank, verify that the air handler (emergency) breaker is not tripped or manually turned off, and that the indoor air handler is being powered. If the display is still blank, call ithermostat customer service at In HEAT mode, set the heat setpoint temperature to at least 4 degrees higher than the current room temperature. Wait 5 or 6 minutes to get past the 5-minute minimum safety delay period. If the STG 1 icon is displayed, and heat does not come On, schedule an HVAC contractor service call. If the STG 1 icon is not displayed, call ithermostat customer service at For heat pumps, check and reset the breaker for heat pump compressor. Make sure that the ithermostat RC/PS switch is in correct position. If you connected a wire to the C terminal (24 VAC common), set the switch to RC. If you did not connect a wire to the C terminal, set the switch to PS. Temporary temperature hold, UP or DOWN buttons, will not work. The ithermostat may have been turned off. Press the SYSTEM button to place it in cooling or heating mode, then retry. Cooling will not come On. Make sure system is set to COOL mode. Press the SYSTEM button until the COOL icon is displayed. Check whether a curtailment event is currently in progress by looking at the light next to the up and down arrow buttons. If the light is On, then a curtailment event is in progress and your air conditioning compressor is temporarily disabled. If the display on the thermostat is blank, verify that the air handler (emergency) breaker is not tripped or manually turned off, and that the indoor air handler is being powered. Also verify that the outdoor compressor breaker is not tripped. For a gas furnace, check for power to the outlet that provides 120v to the indoor fan at the heater closet. If the outlet is powered and the thermostat display is still blank, call customer service. If air conditioner just shut off, or had a power interruption, wait 5 or 6 minutes until the compressor safety time-out delay is passed. In COOL mode, set the cool setpoint temperature to at least 4 degrees lower than the current room temperature. Wait 5 or 6 minutes to get past the 5-minute minimum safety delay period. If STG 1 icon is displayed and cool does not come On, schedule an HVAC contractor service call. If STG 1 icon is not displayed, call customer service. Make sure that the ithermostat RC/PS switch is in correct position. If you connected a wire to the C terminal (24 VAC common), set the switch to RC. If you did not connect a wire to the C terminal, set the switch to PS. 29

32 Troubleshooting Assistance Guide STG 1 is indicated but the unit is not running. Verify the breakers are not tripped for both the air handler and the outdoor compressor. Reset the breakers. If power is being supplied to the equipment, and the ithermostat indicates the system is On (STG 1 icon displayed), call your HVAC contractor. Check whether a curtailment event is currently in progress by looking at the light next to the up and down arrow buttons. If the light is On, then a curtailment event is in progress and your air conditioning compressor is temporarily disabled. If outdoor AC breaker is tripped, reset it. If it trips again, call your HVAC contractor. The fan is On, but no cool air is coming out. Check that the system setting is set to COOL. Press the SYSTEM button until the COOL icon is displayed. Verify that the breakers are not tripped to the outdoor compressor and that the outdoor compressor and fan is operating. Reset the breakers. If power is being supplied to the equipment and the ithermostat, and the ithermostat indicates the system is On (STG 1 shown), call your HVAC contractor. Verify that the ithermostat is calling for cooling, and the outdoor compressor is running. If cool air is still not being detected from the system, the refrigerant level may be low. Call your HVAC contractor. The fan is On, but no hot air is coming from registers. Check that the system setting is set to HEAT. Press the SYSTEM button until the HEAT icon is displayed. Verify that the air handler breaker is not tripped and that the ithermostat indicates the system is On (STG 1 displayed). If a fossil fuel (oil/gas) furnace, check the furnace burner for visible flame. If no flame or pilot, call your HVAC contractor. If a heat pump, verify that the outdoor compressor and fan are running. If the compressor is running and warm air is still not being detected from the system, the refrigerant level may be low.
