20 Air purging Air and/or moisture in the refrigerant system can have undesirable effects as indicated below: Higher system operating pressures. Higher system operating current. Performance and efficiency loss Moisture in the refrigerant circuit may freeze and cause blockages in the system. Water may lead to corrosion of key components in the refrigeration system. Therefore, the system components, indoor, outdoor and refrigerant pipe between the units must be leak tested and evacuated thoroughly to remove any non-condensables and/or moisture from the system. Air purging with vacuum pump REFRIGERATION Preparation: Please refer to Page 8 of this manual for specific pipe length and height specifications. Check that all piping (both liquid and gas side pipes) between the indoor and outdoor units have been properly connected and all wiring has been completed. Remove the service valve caps from both the gas and the liquid side on the outdoor unit. Note that both the liquid and gas side service valves on the outdoor unit are to be kept closed at this stage. System charging The outdoor unit is charged for a nominal 0m pipe length for each indoor unit up to the maximum no. of indoor units (2-Head Outdoor 20m, 3-Head Outdoor 30m, 4-Head Outdoor 40m & 5-Head Outdoor 50m). The total system refrigerant charge must be adjusted according to the table below: System Refrigerant Adjustment - Calculated for each Indoor Unit Less than 0m pipe length More than 0m pipe length REMOVE Refrigerant ADD Refrigerant 5g/m for Ø 6.35mm Liquid Line or 5g/m for Ø 6.35mm Liquid Line Example FIVE Indoor Units ( kW) - 5 Head Outdoor Unit pre-charged for 50m Indoor Unit Size (kw) Actual Length (m) Pre-charged Pipe Length Variance (m) Liquid Line Size (mm) Indoor Unit Charge Adjustment (g/m) System Charge Adjustment (g) Unit Ø Unit Ø Unit Ø Unit Ø Unit Ø Total System Length 62 Total System Refrigerant Adjustment (g) 20 In this example, an additional 240g of refrigerant is required to be ADDED to the system 9

In these instances, the amount of refrigerant for the not connected indoor unit is calculated using the Ø6.35mm liquid line size (i.e. 5g/m). When relocating the system to another place, fully evacuate and seal the system. Make sure the any additional refrigerant is added in liquid form. Outdoor unit A B Service valve Gas side Indoor unit C Liquid side D Flare connection Take caution in handling the service valve Fully open the valve stem until it hits against the stop. 22 Using the vacuum pump. Completely tighten the flare nuts, A, B, C, D, E connect the manifold valve charge hose to a charge port of the low-pressure valve on the gas pipe side. 2. Connect the charge hose connection to the vacuum pump. 3. Fully open the Lo tap of the manifold gauges. 4. Turn on the vacuum pump to evacuate. After starting evacuation, slightly loosen the flare nut of the Lo tap on the gas pipe side and check that air is entering. (The operating noise of the vacuum pump changes and the compound gauge indicates 0 instead of negative) 5. After the evacuation is complete, fully close the Lo tap of the manifold gauges and turn off the vacuum pump. Evacuate the system for 5 minutes or more and check that the compound gauges indicate -76cm Hg or 5 (-x0 Pa). 6. Turn the stem of service valve B about 45 counterclockwise for 6~7 seconds after the gas coming out, then tighten the flare nut again. Make sure the pressure display in the pressure gauge is higher than the atmospheric pressure. 7. Remove the charge hose from the Lo pressure charge hose. 8. Fully open the service valve stems B and A. 9. Securely tighten the caps of the service valve. o Manifold Compound gauges -76cm Hg Lo tap Charge hose Low pressure valve REFRIGERATION Fig.67 Hi tap Charge hose Vacuum pump Electrical safety and leak check Electrical safety check Perform a thorough electrical safety check after completing installation:. Insulated resistance The insulated resistance must be more than 2MΩ. Indoor unit check point n m k j i h 2. Earthing After completing the wiring installation, visually check the earthing and measure for earth leakage, it must be less than 4 Ω. Outdoor unit check point A B C f e d c b 3. Electrical leakage check (performing during test running) After finishing the installation, test run the system. The system must be check electrically using a multi-meter and other test tools to perform the check. Turn off the system immediately if leakage is present. Diagnose the issue and resolve before completing the system commissioning.. Fig.68 a 2

23 TEST RUNNING Refrigerant leak test. Soapy water method: Apply a soapy water solution to the indoor and outdoor unit connections using a soft brush. If there are bubbles observed at the connections, this is confirmation of a refrigerant leak. The leak must be repaired before restarting. 2. Leak detector Use a handheld leak detector to check for leaks. Outdoor unit check point Indoor unit check point CAUTION A: Lo service valve B: Hi service valve C and D are the ends of indoor unit connection. NOTE: This diagram is for illustration purposes only. The actual order of the A, B, C, D & E connections on the system may differ slightly from the unit to unit depending on the model. Check the actual system for final configuration. A,B,C,D are points for one outdoor-four indoor systems. A,B,C,D, E are points for one outdoor-five indoor systems. Fig.69 E Commissioning / Test run Perform a test operation after completing a leak test at the flare nut connections and after a full electrical safety check. Check that all pipe work and wiring have been properly connected. Check that the gas and liquid service valves are fully open.. Connect the power, press the ON/OFF button on the remote control to turn the unit on. 2. Use the MODE button to select COOL, HEAT, AUTO and FAN to check the operation of all of the functions. o 3. When the ambient temperature is too low (lower than 7 C), the unit cannot be controlled by the remote control to run in cooling mode, but manual operation can be selected. Manual operation is used only when the remote control is disabled or maintenance is necessary. Hold the indoor unit front panel sides and lift the panel up to an angle until it clicks, and remains open at an angle. Press the Manual control button to select the AUTO or COOL, the unit will operate under a Forced AUTO or COOL mode (see User Manual for details). 4. The test operation will last for approximately 30 minutes. Manual control button AUTO/COOL Fig
