4 CLASSIC Carina Curved Panoramic The Carina Curved has a large curved glass window with a door which slides up and into the wall to open. A small version is available for situations where space is limited. The Carina Panoramic has a three-sided window formed from a single piece of glass. A smaller version is also available. Both Carina stoves can be used with the door open, as a fireplace. 6 Stella III classic Stella III woodburning inset stoves are minimal and elegant with generous heat outputs. There are five models to choose from. Stella III stoves have a frameless door, the edge of the glass fitting snugly down into a sealed groove when the door is closed. This gives a stunning, uncluttered view of the flames. With the frameless glass door open a Stella III works as an open fire. The look and feel of a fireplace, the efficiency of a stove. A double sided version, the DF700, is also available (see page 8 & 9). 8 classic Stella III H700 & DF700 Installed in a central column or between rooms the Stella III Double Sided provides heat and a stunning view of the flames on each side and, by allowing you to look right through, greatly increases the sense of space. The Stella III DF700 and H700 have frameless doors, all you see is the edge of the window glass. As the door is slid down the edge of the glass seals smoothly into a groove. This achieves an elegant and uncluttered view of the fire. With the double sided version this frameless design provides an even clearer view to the room beyond. Installed into a fire surround, the Stella 111 gives you the look and feel of traditional fireplace and yet the efficiency, controllability and air tightness of a stove, making it perfect for modern, well insulated houses - and the option is always there to raise the glass and have a true open fire. 10 ULYS Ulys Modern, clean, highly efficient, the Ulys 600 is ideal for smaller rooms or where a square window is desired. The taller portrait 800V allows the flames to stretch up. 12 Ulys ULYS The Ulys 700 and 900 have full glass frames and doors which slide smoothly up into the wall to open. Both are able to run efficiently at low outputs and can be connected to an external air supply. Air-sealed versions are available, suited to modern, well insulated houses. The Zero CO versions have a catalytic converter reducing carbon monoxide and particulates by 90% and further increasing efficiency by 5-10%. The Ulys 900 is also available as a double sided stove, providing a stunning feature as well as the ability to heat the entire house. The Ulys 700 and 900 can both be used with the door open, as a fireplace. Compact, easy to install, with a deep black finish to the door frame achieved by the glass extending right to the edge. 23 Technology STANDARD: WARM AIR CONVECTION Hot air vents are located near the stove and in adjacent rooms, either fed directly from the stove installation chamber or via hot air ducts An external air inlet is located near the base of the installation chamber Heat also passes directly to the room through the window of the stove The majority of the heat produced by a Fondis insert is circulated as warm convected air. This makes the heat immediately around the stove more gentle and helps to spread the warmth more evenly around the room. Natural convection is a simple, effective and silent way to spread heat to adjacent rooms and, via ducts, to hallways and rooms upstairs. An external air inlet provides a good air supply for the fire and reduces draughts within the room. 23

24 Technology ZERO CO: CATALYTIC CONVERTER Exiting the catalyst the particulates and CO levels are reduced by around 90% Upon contact with the metals of the catalyst particulates, CO and other pollutants are oxidised. The catalyst oxidises components of the smoke rendering them less harmful. Electric heating elements ensure that the catalyst quickly reaches an operating temperature of 200ºC when the fire is lit. This ensures that Zero CO works at all stages of combustion, particularly at the beginning and end of the burn, which are the times when smoke production can be highest. The Zero CO system uses electric heating elements which automatically come on when the stove is lit. They quickly raise the temperature to 200ºC so that the catalytic process can begin. It takes less than 5 minutes for the catalytic converter to come up to temperature, after which the heating elements turn themselves off automatically. The purpose of the heating elements is to optimize the function of, and to extend the useful life of, the catalytic converter. The catalyst is covered by an 8 year guarantee (terms and conditions apply, see page 46) As well as reducing CO and emissions, using the catalyst will also tend to reduce the quantity of deposits and tar found in your chimney. The catalyst must be cleaned annually, which is best done before the start of the heating season, at the same time as having the chimney swept. Access for maintenance has been designed in. The demand for wood fired heating devices requires that there is constant improvement and refinement of the technologies used. Some countries, notably Germany and Switzerland - who have long been at the forefront of ecological progress - have already placed severe limitations upon the permissible levels of particulate and of carbon monoxide emissions from wood burning appliances. Similar restrictions will very soon be imposed throughout Europe. 25

Close the door and you have an efficient, controllable, modern stove that can heat your whole house. Some of the classic designs were perfected hundreds of years ago, whilst the more contemporary ones tend to be simpler, drawing more attention to the fire and to the room. You can choose from existing designs or request a unique custom made surround to suit your project. A hand crafted stone surround provides the look and feel of a traditional English fireplace, but with a highly efficient and controllable Fondis at its heart. 40 Features Frames for Stella Passion Ulys To finish the installation of a Stella, Passion or any of the Ulys Series inset stoves there is a choice of two unobtrusive steel frames. There is the Straight frame and the Bevelled frame, both finished in matt black. The frames are simply installed at the end of the job when the plastering and decorating has been finished. 41 Features V Series Frames There are three types of frame available for V Series stoves: Linear, Vented and Bevelled. The frames fit directly to the stove for ease of installation and are finished in a matt black high temperature paint. 46 Warranty Additional Zero CO Warranty A warranty gives you peace of mind and by offering a long warranty we show our confidence in the quality of our stoves. 5 YEAR WARRANTY ON THE BODY OF THE STOVE, 2 YEAR ON PARTS Fondis stoves are guaranteed for 5 years against any seal defect between the firebox and the air convection layer related to cracking or tearing. The common internal parts of a Fondis stove (fire dogs/fuel retainer, heat exchanger, grills, firebricks and cast iron plate) are covered by a 2 year warranty. The window glass is not covered. The casings and decorative elements of the stove are also covered for a 2 year period if the defect is a manufacturing fault. The Zero CO control panel and the heating elements are guaranteed for 2 years. The catalyst is guaranteed for 8 years as per the following conditions: During the first 2 years (from the date of purchase) the catalyst will be replaced free of charge if needed, after verification by our laboratory. Fondis was formed in 1978 and grew steadily through a focus on promoting wellbeing in the home. Taken over in 2003 by Gaby-Yves and Raymonde Bald, Fondis entered a new phase of technological and aesthetic innovation. The systems put in place are all about quality. Fondis stoves are designed and produced in Alsace, France. Because we do nearly everything in-house we maintain complete control with rigorous inspections at every stage of the production process.
