T-39 Specification Fibre types: SMF, MMF, NZDSF, DSF, CSF Mean loss: SMF.02dB, MMF 0.01dB, DSF & NZDSF 0.04dB Fibres: Cladding 125um, coating 100um to 1mm tight or loose buffer Cleave length: 250um, 8 to 16mm. >250um, 16mm tight buffer, 20mm loose buffer * Proof test: 1.96N (200gf) mechanical on fibre splicing stage Times (typical): Splice 9s (Quick mode). Heat shrink <35s 40mm sleeve/oven Programs: Splice Oven 20. All user programmable Data storage: 10,000 splices Operating conditions: -10 C to +50 C, <95% humidity, non-condensing Storage conditions: -40 C to +70 C, <95% humidity, non-condensing Interfaces: Video output RCA jack. Data port USB Type-B Power: 100~240V AC or 10~15V DC, via PS-66 adaptor Dimensions: 150x150x150mm, 5.6 LCD, 2.8kg including PS-66 power adaptor Batteries: BU-66S 4.5Ah, BU-66L 9Ah or 200+ splice and heat cycles respectively APDS recognises SMF, MMF, NZDSF, EDF and user defined fibres for automatic splice program selection Alignment: Auto IAS for non-concentric SMF, Core, Diameter / Cladding * Coating clamps for loose buffer fibre are a factory fitted option
T-39 Carrying case Strong lightweight case holds splicer and accessories
T-39 Accessories FC-6S cleaver JR-22 stripping tool
T-39 Choice of batteries Built in charge indicator BU-66S 100+ splice and heat cycles BU-66L 200+ splice and heat cycles
T-39 Power from vehicle PC-V66 10m flexible DC power cord Connects a vehicle 12V DC outlet to the T-39s DC input
T-39 cleaver support bracket T-39_CSB supports the cleaver on the side of the splicer body Use when the workspace is very small Carry the splicer and cleaver together
T39 Flexible screen positioning Monitor swings through 180 Work with the monitor at the back or front of the splicer Easy key free auto-starting any way round
T-39 flexible fibre clamping Glass clamps integrated in the wind hood for normal operation The clamps can be operated separately from the hood too!
T-39 Two heat shrink ovens Two independent heat shrink ovens Always have an oven ready to receive a splice Remove the heat-shrink bottleneck and increase productivity
T-39 Two heat shrink ovens (sec) T-37SE load fibre splice move spliced fibre to oven heating load fibre splice just waiting T-39 load fibre splice move spliced fibre to oven heating load fibre remove splice splice move spliced fibre to oven heating remove splice move spliced fibre to oven heating 100s for 2 splice and heat cycles remove splice 150s for 2 splice and heat cycles remove splice
T-39 Two heat shrink ovens T-39 s oven has dual temperature profiles Profile A Profile B Heating outward from the centre prevents bubbles Start with Profile A, switch to Profile B
T-39 Electrodes The electrodes are quick to remove and replace No tools are needed Just place the electrodes back into the grooves and refit the clamps there s no alignment needed
T-39 illumination White LED s illuminate the V-grooves The LED s are bright to help work in low light conditions and being white, they show the true colour of the fibre coating to help avoid splicing the incorrect fibres
T-39 Auto-start splicing and shrinking Key free operation Splicing starts automatically on closing the wind hood Shrinking starts automatically on loading the splice & sleeve into the oven
Hardware How it works? - HDCM - High - Definition - Core - Monitoring - Transmitted side view imaging technique - Used in SEI splicers to observe. -Core to core deformation after splicing
Hardware How it works? - PAS - Profile - Aligning - System - Transmitted side view imaging technique - Applied in Japan (NTT) for use in splicers - Used in SEI splicers to either. - align cores or claddings before splicing - check core or cladding offset after splicing
Transmitted side view imaging Light source Fibre Lens Detector
Imaging system T37 Hood hinge Wind hood Mirror protector Mirror LED CCD Objective lens
Image sampling - CCD views the transmitted light along discrete sampling lines - Software automatically finds the edges of the intensity profiles Fibre Sampling line Cladding edge Core edge Intensity profile along each sampling line
T-39 APDS automatic fibre detection wave core core height width Recognises the type of fibre loaded into the splicer Automatically chooses the correct splice program Fibre types recognised SMF, MMF, NZ-DSF, EDF and User Defined fibres
PAS - core alignment For SMF, DSF, NZDSF, PSC, CSF and ErF the system aligns the core centres in both axes to minimise splice loss X view Y view
PAS - cladding alignment For MMF the core is large. It is not necessary to align core centres, the system aligns the cladding (diameter) centres X view Y view
PAS How this is done?
T-39 AIAS auto intentional axis shift Legacy fibre with high concentricity error can be difficult to splice using normal core alignment Surface tension pulls the cladding edges together and misaligns the cores while the arc is active Normal core to core alignment on fibre with high concentricity error Pre-splice, fibres are aligned core to core Result: erratic splice loss Surface tension pulls claddings together when the fibre is melted by the arc Result: cladding aligned, cores misaligned
T-39 AIAS auto intentional axis shift AIAS alignment mode AIAS alignment on fibre with high concentricity error T-39 evaluates the cladding edge offset Pre-splice, align fibres core to core and evaluate the cladding offset If it s large the T-39 automatically calculates and applies an axis shift to counteract the expected surface tension effect. Result: reliable splice loss If the offset is large, apply an axis shift to counteract the expected surface tension effect Surface tension moves cladding partly back when the fibres are melted by the arc Result: cores aligned and low loss
Software - Arc test - Automatic compensation for.. Temperature Pressure Humidity Glass debris on the electrodes Melting point of left and right fibre
Software - Arc test - How do you make an Arc Test? Strip, clean and cleave the 2 fibres Load them into the splicer Select Arc Test from the Condition setting Menu Press [START]
Software Arc test Arc too strong? T-39 reduces the arc power automatically
Arc too weak? Software Arc test T-37 increases the arc power automatically
Arc OK? Software Arc test T-39 is ready to start splicing
Software Arc test - T-39 Arc Test power and position settings are stored for the chosen splice program and the fibre types used - So each splice program can be individually optimised for any given pair of fibres: eg SMFxSMF SMFxLEAF LEAFxTW-RS etc
